I am in the middle of creating advertising on a CMS web site. When I was uploading additional images, I had an upload problem and afterrebooting Firefox, I was met with a big X on the Firefox logo and a notice that the Firefox version didn't work with my 10.6.8 Mac OS. Imagine the shock while in the middle of a client's work. This MAC won't go any higher than the current OS. My question is, can I upload a previous version and somehow retrieve all of my many saved passwords, links, URL's, bookmarks, etc. I find this very arrogant on Mozilla's part to NOT warn us of this impending fail. This is a major hassle. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Firefox 49.0 is a not a update as you would only get this by Testing Firefox on the Beta channel as the current Beta build for 49.0 is currently 49.0b1.

Those using Release channel builds (like the current 48.0) from say www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ do not get updated to builds on another channel such as Beta.

The future Firefox 49.0 and newer Releases will require OSX 10.9 or newer. There is a option of using the Firefox 45 ESR branch to get security updates for a while still as 45.8.0esr will be out when Firefox 53.0 is released and 45.8.0esr will be the last unless Mozilla extends 45.0 esr support.

You can stay with Firefox 48.0 Release for now or you can change to the 45.0 ESR channel now if you like.

The next major version the ESR will be based on will be Firefox 52.0 and when the then older 45 ESR branch is made end of life there will be no more support for OSX 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 then.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx

This is not a sudden change as it was planned for a while and I believe those Mac OSX users still using 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 on release channel should get the https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx when Firefox 49.0 is out in future.

I am not a Mac user, so take this with a sense of caution:

(1) Back up your profile, which contains bookmarks, passwords, history, etc., just in case: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

(2) Uninstall (trash?) Firefox without removing your profile

(3) Install Firefox 48.0: How to download and install Firefox on Mac

Thank you for the solutions. I have removed 49 and have reinstalled 48 which is stable and working. I think Mozilla should push a notice out for impending problems with older Operating Systems. Being in the middle of a project and having this interruption which took several hours to resolve is not productive. Thanks again for the assistance.

I believe those who have Mac OSX 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 and are on Release channel are getting notice of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx when they upgraded from say 47.0.1 to recent 48.0 Release. This notice may not be getting served to those Testing the Beta channel builds?.

Probably not relevant to you, but you were not using a special unbranded version of Firefox were you ?

(Remote possibility it could be Bug 1290548 - Unbranded add-on developer builds are updating to branded Firefox builds )

Thanks James, Not getting anything from Mozilla in the way of notices but, even when beta testing, I would sometimes get hounded with update messages.  ?? Don't think I ever got an email or an on-browser notice for the 49 update.
