Just to confirm, when you long press on a bookmark in the bookmark menu, you are not presented with the option to remove the bookmark?

yes. I press the delete button and a couple seconds later it says paged removed but the bookmark is still there.

It sounds like you are deleting tabs, but are not deleting bookmarks.

I recommend you go to the bookmark menu from the awesome screen and long press on a bookmark to remove it.
