First, repeating my original issue: I have a Mac, OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I can access my Hotmail "Contacts" page using Safari, and at one point it seemed I could with Firefox. Now, I can still get to my Hotmail account with Firefox, but not my "Contacts" page. When I try to, I get this message:

"This page is temporarily unavailable. We're sorry, there was a problem showing this page. We experienced some technical difficulties retrieving the content."

Although I had my OS restored a few days ago, this problem may have existed before that, but I was using Safari, so I may not have noticed it.

Please use layman's terms--I am not tech savvy.

The response from Mozilla was to clear my cache and cookies, but they clear automatically when I exit Firefox. Then there was advice to start in Safe Mode--that sounds more like for a PC then a Mac. I had this very problem last year when I could access my contacts through Safari, but not Internet Explorer on my PC at work. After a few months, IE suddenly connected to my Hotmail contacts, WITHOUT MY DOING ANYTHING. COULD IT BE THAT THERE IS SOME KIND OF DISCONNECT BETWEEN FIREFOX AND HOTMAIL, THAT HAPPENS AFTER GET INTO MY HOTMAIL ACCOUNT, THAT WON'T LET ME GO TO MY ADDRESS BOOK? CAN SOMEONE CHECK ON THIS, SO I DON'T SPIN MY WHEELS TRYING TO SOLVE A PROBLEM FROM MY END, THAT NEEDS TO BE SOLVED INTERNALLY THROUGH FIREFOX/MOZILLA?

What Firefox are you using?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?

To answer, I am using Firefox 40.0.3. No one has addressed my question of whether there is some kind of disconnect or issue between Firefox and Hotmail, since I can access my Hotmail INBOX through Firefox, but then get the error message when I try to go to my contacts page. As I mentioned above, I had a similar problem using Internet Explorer at work a year ago, where I could get to my Hotmail Inbox, but not my contacts. After 3 months, I was suddenly able to, without doing anything, which means something was fixed between IE and Hotmail. DOES SOMETHING NEED TO BE FIXED BETWEEN FIREFOX AND HOTMAIL?

I also have a Hotmail account and have no problem. Have you tried your computer in Safe Mode yet?

Thank you for responding, Fred. I called Apple to learn how to start my Mac in Safe mode, but no one knew what "With Networking" means--what is that (And how do I do that)? Also, when you say to try "SAFE" websites, I can access any website with Firefox, including my Hotmail account--it's just that within Hotmail, when I try to open my "Contacts" or "Address Book", I get this message:" This page is temporarily unavailable. We're sorry, there was a problem showing this page. We experienced some technical difficulties retrieving the content."

Please let me know what "Networking" means and how to use it, and let me know if you meant something else by accessing "Safe" Websites.

Thanks,

Gordon

In most computers, there are several type of Safe Mode. The primary ones used most are;

  • Safe Mode: Only programs that came with the computer are started. No other programs will be started unless the user starts them.
  • Safe Mode with Networking: Same as above but the network drivers (internet) will also be running.

This is a way to test if one of the other programs on the computer is causing the issue.

I have started my Mac in Safe Mode--don't know how to access or use or find a "With Networking" button or link, and the person I spoke to at Apple didn't know, nor did the co-workers she asked.

In Safe Mode, I can access other websites, including my own (gordonellismusic.com) and YouTube. While I can get to the pages, the music and videos did not play on these sites, probably because I am in Safe mode and can't find "Networking".

I was able to enter my Hotmail account through Firerfox, but still got the same error message when trying to access my contacts, yet even in Safe Mode, I can access my Hotmail contacts using Safari. Is there a way to check if there is some disconnect between Firefox and the Hotmail Address Book page? I don't know what else to do

That was very good. Now we have a better picture of what is going on. P.S. If you did not have Networking running, you could not use the web.

There is no issue between Firefox and Hotmail. Only the Contacts has issues. We can try a few more steps, but if they don't work it's a website problem.

Remove History For One Site Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any passwords / settings.

Hi gordelmusic, Did removing the history for Hotmail's cache work? That usually clears out any old cookies or possible cache corruption.

However a little research and I found that there is a possible issue with the site in regards to the exact error you mentioned. It was recommended in the Microsoft forums that: "Just follow the instructions here: http://www.poremsky.com/windows/edit-or-remove-social-networks-from-... "
