I am absolutely LIVID!!!! I was just prompted by TB to download the latest update, which I reluctantly allowed, only to discover when it wanted to restart TB that the new version REFUSES to run now!!! The automatic re-start only resulted in a single tone from the computer with no error messages. Trying to start TB from a shortcut results in the same. I logged off and back on as User with no improvement. I then re-booted the computer and still no good! I cannot get TB, and therefore my email, back up on my computer!!! THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AS I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF WORKING AND ABSOLUTELY MUST GET FINISHED TODAY!!!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS NEW VERSION AND HOW DO I GET MY OLD TB VERSION BACK... IMMEDIATELY??????

I am LIVID as I trusted you and you blindsided me in the middle of a very busy and hectic deadline day with a malfunctioning update! TB didn't even set a Restore Point before the update so I can't even use that option!!!! I will NEVER trust you again!!!

Sometimes after an update, I have found the computer Anti-virus/Firewall product does not seem to know that the updated version is the same product and it blocks Thunderbird. I had to set it to block and then reset to Allow.

Thanks for the feedback on how you got it working.

I have to update this post to say that I could not wait for any kind of reply, which could take days or months (or never). I decided in desperation to re-download from scratch the TB version made available here on Mozilla's web site, which I assume is the same latest version that failed earlier, and hope it would run and not over-write all my current settings. After the download and installation (and a lot of breath holding) it finally came back up, but only after several tries of executing the new desktop shortcut for it.

So, in summary this issue is at the moment resolved for me, but... I will be VERY reluctant to accept another TB update henceforth. ~DWK

Thank you TH! I think you may be on to something because immediately after the attempted update installation there was a notification in the System Tray from Norton 360 that it had "discovered" and blocked two files that it identified as Trojans. Of course I did not interfere with that since I could not be sure they were actually related to the installation. At the same time, after investigating the failed install, I discovered there were "missing" system files related to it. It's all circumstantial evidence, and hard to say not just coincidental, but it makes me suspicious just the same. Thanks again! ~DWK
