Is newly downloaded Firefox icon supposed to remain on my desktop?

I just downloaded Firefox. I have a lot of trouble navigating on computers and understanding the lingo. I have never used a second browser because I was content with Safari alone, but I needed a second browser since suddenly eBay will not use Safari. I hope I can make it all work. Meanwhile I see that the Firefox icon is on my desktop. Will it remain there? If it is supposed to be there, that is fine. I have been told to minimize items on the Desktop (although, as usual, I don't know why.) Yes or no? Anything else I need to know about having this second browser?

Everything on the desktop should be shortcuts only to programs and/or files. Note that some virus programs have cleared the desktop in the past.

You can have whatever you want on the desktop. Mostly things you use a lot. Some items can also be "pined" to the taskbar.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

Open the Firefox disk image file and drag the Firefox program into the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.
