Why am I getting the message "It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while..." when I use it all the time?

It may have been a recent update, but it indicates that I haven't used Firefox for while when I used it this morning. Is this just a function of the update? I would expect that if Firefox did know how long it has been since I used it last, that it wouldn't give that message.

Ignore that message!

From what I have observed, a Firefox update will cause Firefox to 'look' at the Profile file time stanps and might raise that alert. I'm not sure exactly what or how many parameters are involved in Firefox 'deciding' to show that alert message, but as long as you aren't having any problems with Firefox don't respond to it.

Firefox can offer to reset a user's profile if it hasn't been used for 60 days.

You can create a new Boolean pref with the name browser.disableResetPrompt and set its value to true to disable this notification.

Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key to open the about:config page like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.

  • if you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.

A new preference can be created via the right-click context menu (New -> Boolean).
