long delay in sending email
Over the past few weeks only, I have noticed an long delay when sending emails. After composing the email, I click send and a the box "Sending Message" appears. It is at this point the delay happens/ The progress bar in the box will be an any length from 41% - 100%. The box will stay on the screen anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds - the size of the message and whether or not there are attachments does not make the delay any longer or shorter.
A very odd note is: I sent an email from my personal account to my company account and while I was waiting for the box to disappear, I received the email in my company account. This leads me to belive that the issue is either in Thunderbird writing to the sent folder or just unable to close the box normally.
I am behind a firewall - but there has been no change to the firewall nor to my pc in a few months. I am not running an anti virus program on my pc. I have scanned my pc days ago just to rule out malware, viruses, etc.
The pc is a Dell Optiplex running Windows 7 Professional. Thunderbird is at 31.7.0 and I only have the calendar as an add-on. i tried starting Thunderbird in safe mode, but there was no change.
Any help is appreciated.

Some more info. I unchecked the setting to save a copy of the email in the sent folder - with no change in the delay.
The odd thing is, as noted before, the message is sent immediately - it is the box that hangs.
Any ideas?
Go to the Tools menu. Open the error console. Clear the error console.
Send a mail that hangs up. What appears in the console?

There are no emails that do not hang up - they all do. Nothing appears in the console.
Anyone else have any other suggestions? I installed Outlook just so I can send again. If this canoe be resolved, I am going to remove Thunderbird completely - but I would rather not.
