Class not registered: Prevents starting of Firefox on Windows.

  1. Perhaps someone will enlighten me about what exactly this error means in connection with Firefox not starting and try to assist and solve questions asked in the two threads

My lack of grasp of this issue is probably illustrated by my comments
.... From your screenshot I may have expected such a message to indicate all .exe class were unregistered but that clearly is not the case.

Should it indicate other file types or extensions do not associate with Firefox then that is understandable and expected when Firefox is not the default browser, but is no explanation for the error on starting Firefox from the run option. ....

  2. Hey John99, it would be helpful to find what in the profile was changed:

"uninstall, backup and remove your profile and reinstall with the latest setup. probably something messed up your profile"

  4. I do not use Windows 8 and do not personally experience the problem.

As this leaves users without Firefox I suggested Firefox portable ESR as a workaround.

  6. One thread reports the error appeared after conduit malware was removed, but no confirmation from others yet.

Rachel, (or other Windows 8 users)

Does Windows 8 on touch screens have the option to use Run ?

How is that done in both Firefox Desktop and in Firefox Metro. I ask as that should be a method of getting around corrupted shortcuts. If that works the shortcuts should be fixable.
