Vito's revision is here https://support.allizom.org/en-US/kb/Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing/revision/8019
FWIW, I don't think this article is one we have to try out on staging.
Here are the changes I think still need to be done:
We could use the same instructions for showing or customizing a toolbar as we use here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How to customize the toolbar/revision/11190
Based on Vito's edit, I made the changes described in the previous post. It needs review.
I made some small wording tweaks and made the notes about using the alt key to show the menu bar windows only. Approved.

I just wanted to post some useful feedback (posted 05-20-2011 to /kb/ask/discuss, since deleted) that resetting localstore.rdf still works for missing toolbars:
New thread: Several Toolbars disappeared
User GaryStebbins has posted a new thread in a forum you're watching.
Here is the thread:

Firefox 4.01, Windows XP. My navigation toolbar, Address bar (or whatever it's now called), bookmarks bar and more all disappeared. View > Toolbars shows them all enabled. There's just a blank area where they were. If I disable or enable a toolbar, that blank area changes size, but nothing shows there. Firefox is pretty useless without the tools. I'd like to go back to version 3 until version 4 is stable. Or, maybe I should use Chrome?
Any ideas on how to get the toolbars to show?
Thanks.
Gary

I found the solution. I had a corrupt localstore.rdf. Information at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf

Oddly, the Firefox user didn't find the solution in this article but in MozillaZine's KB.
