  2. Hi, mahdimb. I was wondering, did you post this information on the support forum? I did a google search on "trick Firefox" site:support.mozilla.org and found a number of support forum questions on that error, for which the suggested solution is to do a clean reinstall of Firefox by removing the program files and reinstalling.

The latest one I found was from Nov 2012. Another question was from Feb 2012. One of the earlier questions mentioned a bug report, Bug 653830 - Popup notice Software Update - Update Failed - Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure (that bug was marked "incomplete").

In any case, this error is part of a larger set of "Update Failed" errors. If you want to post an alternate fix, it probably belongs in the How to fix the Update Failed error message when updating Firefox article. It would be great if you could add the information you found to that article .... you can post it in its Discussion forum here (and post a link back to this thread):

  5. Hi again.

Thanks again for mentioning that the Firefox update error can be resolved by changing a setting in ESET nod32 Smart Security under "Web access and antiphishing protection" (HTTPS filtering mode -> Do not use HTTPS protocol checking) Only thing, I'm wondering if changing the setting you mentioned should be done as a temporary workaround (does ESET support have any more information?) or if it's better to simply disable the software.

I see that NOD Antivirus software was mentioned as interfering with the Software Update process - see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_that_can_cause_updates_to_fail - and the linked reference goes back to 2007!

The How to fix the Update Failed error message when updating Firefox article does say,

    Close other running programs

Some programs that can interfere with Firefox are set to start up automatically when you start your computer. Before updating Firefox, try closing or disabling such programs; for example, Spybot TeaTimer and Logitech QuickCam software have been known to interfere with Firefox updates.

I'm thinking that this section might be updated to add "NOD Security software" but this topic really belongs in that article's own Discussion forum.
