The websites in my drop down location bar are no longer saving. How can I make it so they save again in Firefox 5.0.1

Yesterday I cleared my cookies and cache through the "clear recent history" option under Tools. Since then, my drop down location bar is no longer saving the websites I go to frequently. I generate a list of them by going to the sites I want there, close out my browser, and then when I go back they are no longer there. The drop down URL bar doesn't even drop down now. How can I make it so Firefox saves my frequently visited URLs?
