Why thunderbird needs a specific version ? Why the newest versions aren't compatible with windows 7 ?

I have more than 100 pc running mainly Mozilla tools on windows 7 which does the job perfectly. I don't want to pay $15000 fees for an unnecessary upgrade.

What new functionnalities windows 11 brings that prevent Mozilla to compile the same versions for all windows OS ? This forces people to abandon their windows 7 and to pay fees to Microsoft. I understand the later, he does his business. But why Mozilla helps it ?

I am writing to report an issue with custom message tags in Thunderbird that started occurring around September 28, 2026 (likely following a recent update).

Issue Description: The problem applies to all folders (Inbox, Sent, custom subfolders, etc.) and is strictly isolated to user-created (custom) tags.

When I apply a custom tag to any email, the tag visually attaches to the message. However, as soon as I switch to another folder in the folder pane and then return to the original folder, the custom tag disappears completely.

Key Observations:

No Relation to Filters: This issue happens with regular emails in any folder, with no filters involved.

Custom Tags vs. Default Tags: This affects only custom tags created by the user. Default built-in tags (e.g., Important, Work, To Do) save correctly and persist after switching folders.

Timeline: All custom tags assigned before September 28, 2026, are still preserved correctly on older emails. The issue affects any new attempt to set a custom tag after this date.

Steps to Reproduce:

Select any email in any folder.

Apply a user-created (custom) tag to the email.

Observe that the tag is visually assigned.

Click on any other folder to switch views.

Return to the original folder — the applied custom tag is gone.

Could you please assist in resolving this issue or suggest a fix/workaround? Custom tags are essential for our daily email management.

In Thunderbird, the “attach” button stopped working when sending a message, although the “drag and drop” feature still works. Could you suggest what the problem might be?

Thunderbird will not download mail. It sends this: "The certificate for inbound.att.net does not come from a trusted source." "Location: inbound.att.net:995" Then it sends the data with the certificate information. I am not a programmer, I do not understand what I am supposed to do to get it going again.

Mozilla Account works normally directly inside Firefox, but logging into Mozilla Accounts through Thunderbird's Add-ons manager fails during the Firefox handoff.

Steps to reproduce: 1. In Thunderbird Add-ons, click Log in. 2. Thunderbird redirects to Firefox, showing "Continue with Mozilla account". 3. Click Continue -> Firefox displays "You could not be logged in. Please try again."

Troubleshooting already tried:

• Created a brand-new Thunderbird profile (thunderbird -P) — same failure occurs.
• Cleared cookies/site data in Thunderbird and cleared Firefox cache.
• Disconnected existing Thunderbird/Add-ons connections from Mozilla Account dashboard.
• Extensions and add-ons themselves install and download normally.

Just checked email this morning and my sbcglobal.net account is not connecting in Thunderbird. I hit get messages and it only connects to my gmail account. It connected just fine yesterday, and I did not change anything on my PC or in Thunderbird, so I ruled that out. I have since tried several suggestions from the internet, google, and Mozilla websites. I do not have a VPN and no changes to firewall settings either. I tried setting it up with IMAP settings and with POP3 settings and always get the same error. (attached pic) Also used my saved password for the account which did not work, and then tried the ATT secure key code which did not work. I deleted the entire account and tried to set it up from scratch but that did not work either. Looking for any other suggestions to get this solved. Thanks!

Suddenly, the comments in the descriptions of calendaring are showing up black writing in a black area, so I can hardly read them. Why? Was this changed in a recent update. If so, how can I fix it?

I use Thunderbird for email. Suddenly I can neither attach nor insert files/photos into an outgoing email. Also, keyboard shortcut ctrl+shift+A doesn't work and is greyed out. I have no extensions and troubleshooting mode doesn't work either. What's wrong?

My inbox appears empty. On the inbox setting it is only giving instruction to set up another account. My normal emails have disappeared. I can still see the emails on my phone however.

I've lost the ability to receive e-mail, Suddenly Thunderbird just quits on me with no warning. Apparently I can still send mail but cannot receive. This is the second time this has happened to me in as many months. How do I fix it? How do I prevent it?

New mail keeps going to either the Inbox, Notifications, or the Newsletter folders by default. No filters have been added to change the initial settings. How can the settings be modified so that all incoming mail goes to the inbox, eliminating every future instance of it being directed elsewhere?

I have no interest in the Notifications or Newsletter folders. I'm happy with getting rid of them completely, if that is a possibility that can solve the problem.

I tried turning off the add-on and turned off dark mode. I have been successfully using it this way, having to change the font color using font/bkgrnd color control. I have not updated win10 or TB since the last time I used this function. I send out daily emails with findings to a group bcc list. Not complex nor variating.

I went to light mode, turned off JonathanKamen's "Send Later" add-on (which is designed and executes well). Process successfully concluded.

Turned back on "Send Later". Still works.

I prefer dark mode. Documenting for advice and to see proactively if some gap is there in code say for error handling.

I have Thunderbird installed on Windows 11 along with Norton 360. Today, my connection to the AT&T e-mail server suddenly disconnected and I immediately got a pop-up notification that Norton detected a problem with a security certificate. When I inspected the details, it indicated that the certificate for inbound.att.net had expired (the range of valid dates on the certificate actually listed the current date as the last valid date). After several infuriating calls with AT&T support and Norton support, I figured out that simply disabling Norton e-mail protection allowed me to access my e-mail account.

Multiple web searches on similar issues suggested that since Thunderbird has its own certificate storage, fixing the problem involves locating the Norton certificate file and importing it using Thunderbird's certificate manager. Unfortunately, that solution appears to be applicable for first-time Thunderbird installation, and I when I tried it I was informed that the certificate was already installed. Another web search suggested that I should go to the Authorities tab and remove the entry for "Norton Email Protection". Unfortunately, the entry that I found was for "Norton Web/Mail Shield", which according to at least one source is not the same thing, so I am afraid to remove it.

So my question is has anyone else encountered this same problem, and is the correct approach to remove the Norton Web/Mail Shield authority before importing Norton's certificate file?

I have multiple email accounts on Thunderbird (on MX Linux)... att.net, gmail.com and aol.com

While traveling without my computer, i had to reset my aol password on my iphone.

Now that I'm back at my desk, and being unable to find how to change the aol password on Thunderbird, I deleted the AOL imap account and have tried much of today to add a new AOL account.

In the past, I could create an 'app password' within AOL (browser) and use that password in Thunderbird... but that is no longer working.

Any guidance/suggestions?

I am running the latest Thunderbird version 140.17.0esr (64-bit) available in my MX Linux.

In the last couple days, I am not receiving messages in my email account inbox (att.net/yahoo). Messages are going directly to the local inbox folder. Windows 10.

When I search for new emails in the local folder, they are tagged with a gold diamond, and my option is to "Move to inbox again," which does move the messages back to the main inbox. But, "again" implies that the message arrived in the account folder, but got automatically passed to local folder. On or two occasions, I noticed an very fast dowloading to the inbox, which disappears immediately.

And, I get no response in my email account when hitting F5. F5 works for the local folder, and other accounts, and Shift-F5 (getting messages for all accounts) updates the others, but not my main email account.

The issue is not with att.net/yahoo. I have checked all my settings and server settings in Thunderbird, done the folder repairs several times, closed and reopened Thunderbird many times, deleted Inbox.MSF, etc., but nothing works. The issue seems to be specific to Thunderbird. Any ideas?

when I add to or make changes to thunderbird calendar on my desktop, it does not copy to my laptop. they are on the same network. can they both sync to new changes?

T-Bird consistently reports receipt of an email to be received one hour earlier that it was actually received. For example, I received and email at 4:03 pm (Windows 11 time and actual time). The time that T-Bird reports the email as being received is 3:10 pm. I would appreciate help in resolving this. I think it might be the cause of a problem with scheduling an appointment - the online confirmation says 3:10 is the appointment time while a confirming email (received moments later) says 2:10 is the appointment time
