Previous solution: switch browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar to false does not work anymore.

Suddenly I cannot search from the search bar. It defaults to the address bar. why "fix" something that was not broken. Being forced to use the address bar is frustrating. If you go directly to the address bar, it tells you it cannot find that site.

When I click on the search box in the middle of the New Tab page and start typing, the focus automatically jumps to the Address Bar (Awesomebar). I want the typing to stay within the central search field.

In about:config, I have set browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar to false. However, this did not fix the problem — the input is still being redirected to the top address bar.

I had to remove the Recommended stories from the home page. every source was a left leaning outlet. How is someone supposed to get a balanced news snapshot if all the sources have the same biased tilt?

I would like to remove the search options from the address bar because I preferred the old setup with a separate search window (and the address bar was just unable to perform searches). How can I set this up?

Hello Long ago I turned off search in address bar. Today it decided to resume search on that area. I searched help and the followed instruction for about:config. I've and see I've already set as required "browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar" it is set to false. What do I do to fix this. I really find search in address bar confusing.

hi there, I'm using FF147.0.3 on a windows 11 version 25H2 laptop. I use google as my default search engine. When I open a new tab the google search page opens as usual. But now all of a sudden as soon as I start typing, search suggestions are appearing in the address box and not in the main google search page bar.

I've tried "settings-search-address bar" and turned off all features but that had no effect on the problem. I've reset the laptop several times but the issue still remains.

This problem is really annoying so any help would be great. Cheers Jeff

I had to actually sign up fort a Mozilla account,the multiple hoops I had to jump through were ridicules, in order to ask a question of Firefox. I do not want my address bar to be my search engine. How do I disable the search engine in my address bar? And now I have to wait for an answer!!!!!!!! I used to love and trust Firefox. Not anymore.

hi i am unable to use the middle search bar on the firefox screen , i understand that this search bar is a dummy bar, i have been told that to make this bar work you have to alter the settings using about:config process, and changing the handoff from ture to false , to which I have done in the past and it has worked , but for a reason I cannot understand this seems not to work now , i am completely lost now and i am reaching out to the community for help and advise thank you . When I have stories (articles) recommended through Pocket on new tabs that I'm not interested in I will typically "thumbs down" or "dismiss" the story. What I have found recently is that causes them to be promoted to me more rather than less. I believe it's interpreting my interaction as engaging with the content rather than not wanting to see it again. For example, I was shown an article on American football three weeks ago and I gave it a thumbs down. Later that day it was three articles. I gave them the same thumbs down. After repeating this process for days, weeks later I'm still getting multiple articles recommended per day related to football. I've never read one out of interest, and I didn't have any recommendations related to sports until the first one I gave a thumbs down. Based on that, I'm convinced it's having the opposite than intended effect. Dismiss doesn't seem make a difference. Please give me a way to tune the algorithm to what I actually want to see, I like this feature and don't want to have to turn it off.

Where are my shortcut tiles? I used CCleaner and they all disappeared and I can't get them back even though I make sure they were on and have 2 rows selected and restarted my computer since. This happened last week and still no sign of them. See pic for reference.

The weather widget is set the country I am from, however I would like to actually use a different location for the weather. Is it possible to do? I tried to type in the city I want it to be set to but it only shows cities from my country.
