Are you connected to WiFi or a Data connection when you try to Update?
I'm connected to WiFi.
Hello,
After reading the information provided about your issue I suggest a soft reset of the phone.
- Take the back cover of the phone off.
- Take the battery out.
- Take the SIM card and microSD card out (if applicable).
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Put the SIM card and microSD card back in (if applicable).
- Put the battery back in.
- Put the back cover back on.
- Turn the device on.
- Check if the issue you were having is still present.
Please report back to us if this solved your problem!
Thank you
I'm having the same problem with my phone. The above didn't work for me.
Same here, I've tried the battery out, etc method and still get the error message.
Please try the method explained in this article: Update Accuweather or Wikipedia. You can also try contacting ZTE.
Hi had a go at this but still did not work. Is there a way to find out if there is an update or if the phone already has it but thinks it hasn't? I had a cheep tablet that did this. ZTE said to ask Mozilla.
I too have this problem. I have tried the battery removal process and the Accuweather update process. Neither works. Here are some things I noticed about the update process:
- The update is 13.34 MB, but the phone download progress shows 13.11 MB then the phone asks if I want to start the install process. Could it be that the phone is not downloading the entirety of the update?
- When the phone reboots, I get an orange screen with a white gear in the middle. This seems as though the update is being installed, but the progress bar moves so fast (maybe 3 seconds) that I question if anything really is being installed.
Anybody else see something like this?
same problem here, also many people in this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/969156
at this time, I am sorry to say, asking users to "contact ZTE" is not going to cut it.
Please hold a ZTE phone in your hand and figure it out, Mozilla.
Hi!
I understand you guys are frustrated that the update is not updating. Could you explain what is in the update or what the update is for?
Unfortunately, I do not have a ZTE device but my supervisor does and can help you as I will notify her.
The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
the update is
"system update required" "13.34MB"
Thats all the information on screen.
currently, my system info are:
- software: Open_us_dev_ffos_v1.0.0B02
- last updated: 8/24/2013 7:52AM
- OS version: 1.0.1.0
- firmware revision: V1.01.00.01.019.144
- Platform version: 18.0
- build identifier: 20130724040538
- update channel: nightly
The update will install Firefox OS 1.1. I have read that there is a boost in performance (who knows what this means) as well as bug fixes.
Same issue here, same build as crislevin. Tried battery out and Accuweather and failed as well
I kinda suspect this needs to be fixed from the developer side and the updating package needs to be changed a bit. May just be some sort of technical glitch.
I have this issue too. Same info as crislevin I have a ZTE Open.

pfe1223, FirefoxOS 1.1 is only going on Geeksphones, not on the ZTE Open Phones, there is no rollout for 1.1 planned for them yet.
Thanks, I am trying to get several things clear:
1. Are you are saying there is really no update, the notification we saw was just an error?
2. the update will be directly from Mozilla for each phone? or will it be vetted and pushed from phone manufacturer?
3. may I ask what's stopping Mozilla from rolling out 1.1 for ZTE open? It seems ZTE open is not customized by ZTE, so its all Mozilla firefox OS, correct?
1. I'm not sure if there is an error or isn't, you can contact ZTE to see if they have released an update. 2. Updates are pushed from the Phone manufacturers, as they need to make sure that drivers and certifications happen for their devices. Mozilla has no control over that process. 3. See above.
The best way to really know what happens is to enable "Remote Debugging" and "Console logs" (see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS/Debugging/Developer_settings), connect your phone to a computer that has adb installed, and launch "adb logcat" from this computer. Grepping for "Gecko" probably helps filtering too.
Just as an update for everyone, this is a known bug that has been reported to ZTE and they will be working on a fix. Thanks and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
