Hello,

I am constantly getting script errors and it if I try to stop the script it gives me *not responding* status so it hangs. I've already had 2 prior to the last one so it was 3 within 30 minutes. Closed some tabs in case those caused it, like facebook, but it still happened. The last one I've gotten so far this morning is:  : chrome://global/content/bindings/browsers.xml:287 . I tried to look it up but that got me nowhere. I'm hoping someone can help me. I've done safe-mode and it still happens there so that's no help.

If you can help me it'd be surely appreciated, thanks.

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I apologize but this hasn't worked in the past. I've tried this method before yet I'm still experiencing the same problem. Have re-downloaded Mozilla Firefox a few times and that still doesn't help.

Could corrupted files cause this? I've done the scannow command before to see if it would help fix the problem but it wasn't able to fix some 'corrupted' files.

I'm lost and getting tired of these issues.

It's definitely possible that corrupted files could cause this. Unfortunately that is a really difficult thing to diagnose. Since you've already tried Refresh and reinstalling, the last thing to try is a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files completely and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

Hello again,

I did the suggested clean install but I've gotten 'not responding' moments still. I did have a script but that one was that 'fb.alkamid.'whatever which I believe is with the facebook page, dealing with ads which I don't how to disengage that script either.

Just letting you know that it didn't solve the problem of 'not responding'.

If the problem persists after a clean install, then it is probably being caused by a plugin (ie. some other software on your computer which works with Firefox). Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each yellow or red button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Mr. Schmidt-

All of the plugins were up to date. I actually reimaged my computer to the 1st partition so I started fresh. All are updated but I'm still experiencing the 'not responding' moments.

Mr. Paul-

Someone had already posted that same suggestion and I had already tried it with no success. Please see what has already been suggested and tried.
