When I right click on the email message to highlight it, it not only highlights but also immediately opens. if I could change the action list in the dialogue box I could stop it actioning the open command.

Right-clicking on an e-mail should not open it. It should open a menu for things you can do with the e-mail.

Single left-click will select an e-mail, but a double-click is needed to open it.

What dialogue box are you talking about? Please post a screenshot here to show us. How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

HI Bruce

I have attached the screenshot below. As you can see the dialogue box that opens, when I right click with my mouse has as its top line the command "Open message in new tab". Usually what I want to do is delete the email. However before I can move the cursor the command activates and the message opens. If I could shuffle the commands in the dialogue box then I could put something else at the top.

Kind regards

Ian

That's a menu, not a dialog box, thus my confusion.

Your question is regarding trying to rearrange the items in that menu. There is no way to do that within the program. You would have to change the programming for Thunderbird.

Thus lets deal with the actual problem, which is that for some reason, an item in that menu is being activated without you clicking on it.

Are you using a laptop with a touchpad? I can easily imagine right-clicking on the message, then trying to move the pointer on the screen with the touchpad, and the touch being interpreted as a left click. Actually, I don't have to imagine it because it happens to me all the time with my laptop and touchpad. This is why I really don't like using touchpads. I connect a mouse to the laptop and use that instead.

No I always use a mouse and ironically this does not happen when using my laptop with the mouse (I always use a mouse and not the touchpad!!) Its confusing the doodahs out of me. I did think the menu box would be programmed directly but it never hurts to ask. I wondered about changing the mouse sensitivity but that would irritate me with other programs so any suggestions would be much appreciated

The context menus can be rearranged with Menu Wizard.
