Why aren't my sent emails on Thunderbird visible?

Why can't I open my sent e-mails? It is grayed out. I followed instructions on one of the help pages but it made no difference. I have just started using Thunderbird.

Sounds like an imap mail account. right click on maila ccount in folder pane and select 'Subscribe' Subscribe to see server 'Sent' folder. click on OK

Is Sent in the subscribe list? Is it subscribed to see?
