Hey guys!

I've got a rather simple thing in mind but unfortunately was not able to make my Thunderbird do it.

I want my thunderbird to move a message that has been read to a folder within my inbox. I want it to be read tho, because if I set up the filter as just From: xxxx > Move to: xxxx I stop getting notifications, and have to manually search my folders for new mails which is just time consuming and inefficient. So here are the steps of the filter I'd like to make:

1) Get a new mail from example@mail.com 2) Get a notification for it and see it in my Inbox folder 3) Click it to check it out = Read it 4) Click away from it 5) Move the already READ mail from example@mail.com to Inbox > examplefolder

And of course, make Thunderbird do this automatically :)

Hope that explains my problem thoroughly! Thanks for your help in advance!

According to this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/organize-your-messages-using-filters Thunderbird inbox filters run automatically 'when new mail is received'. So that's a problem, because what you have in mind is that the filter would run as soon as you have finished reading a message? If you're content to wait for new mail to arrive in order to trigger the filter, then it's easy to create a filter with the condition status is read and the action move to folder. Or you could run that filter manually when you want to clear read messages. But I can't think of a way to make it do exactly what you want.

Can't I make it run on programme start up for example? Can't I make it apply its filters when I close it, or change folders or anything of that kind? I don't want to run it manually, even tho it does work.

My current filter has both From is and Status is read , followed by a move to, but they do nothing unless I press the Run filters on folder manually....

amanchesterman is correct. You can only have the filter work automatially on new received mail or do it manually after reading.

The best method would be to create a filter to move the unread new mail to a specific folder upon downloading, then read the email.

This then makes you wonder how to easily and quickly locate unread mail. View > Folders > Unread will only show any folders that have unread mail.

If you have already selected the folder, you could also use the Quick filter Bar option 'Show only unread messages' - icon looks like a pair of sunglasses.

That's cool, but I won't be able to make notifications pop up on the thunderbird icon / or on my phone which is my biggest concern. Guess I'll have to settle with the manual filters :<

I just noticed another problem with manual filters. If I create a From is, Status is Read and Move to folder filter the moved emails somehow corrupt their attachments and I get an:
