Can I set up one web address to load Flash when my general settings are to ask before activating?

more options

Flash seems to cause me a lot of problems. My solution is to set the Flash plug-in to ASK TO ACTIVATE. This works! Almost all the time! My one problem arises from Comcast's X1 landing page https://xtv.comcast.net/ It requires Flash and the ASK banner, which shows up on every other page that needs Flash, does not appear.

I've tried to communicate with Comcast, but haven't found someone who gets it.

So, one solution might be to set this single address to always activate.... but, I'm not sure if that's possible and if it is I can't figure out how to do it.

Thanks!

Yes, you can.

Firefox may not show the infobar if it believes there is a visible placeholder in the page. But on some pages, the placeholder may be hidden by an image. In such cases, you still should be able to use the plugin notification icon toward the left end of the address bar (looks like a small gray Lego block). That's where the panel usually drops down when you click the button on the infobar.

Does that appear on this page?

If not, try setting the permission using the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog. You can call that up using any of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the padlock or "i" icon to the left of the site address, then the ">" icon, then More Information > Permissions

Near the top, you'll find "Activate Plugins" and you can select Allow for the Flash plugin. Then reload the page and see whether it kicks in. This should be remembered indefinitely, so if you want to change the permission back, you can use the same panel again.

Success?

As it turns out, the solution was simpler (although knowing how to do this might be helpful in the future).... comcast tends to proliferate link addresses and not put up any notification to tell a user "this link might work and it might not" I had to CHAT with 2 comcast reps, but the 2nd told me to use a different link: tvgo.xfinity.com and it did work, so that's all I need since I'd never had the banner problem with any other site...
