Bookmarks on my Bookmarks toolbar won't load from a left click anymore

I have both folders (eg personal stuff, inc my twitter and facebook etc) and individual bookmarks on my toolbar (eg google, amazon etc). If it's in a folder I can left click as usual and it opens. If it's a direct link on the toolbar though nothing happens. I have to right click and choose open. It's not my mouse as left clicking works EVERYWHERE else. And it's not the links themselves as if I move them (say, to a folder) they behave.

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? To start in Safe Mode, go to Firefox > Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

Wow, that worked! Thanks!

Which add-on was the culprit? That will help in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Hang on, I may have been over-optimistic. It's doing it again. Drat. I will try again in a more controlled fashion and make notes this time.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:
