The reason why I use Firefox is the capacity it has to be personalized, so since I use it, I like to have my favorite personas and extensions, such as tool-bars or dictionarys, but recently, without noticing why, every time I start a new session in Windows XP, and for the first time I start Firefox, it asks me permission to install extras that are already installed. I already uninstalled Firefox, deleted my old profile, and re-installed all the extensions trying to solve the problem but it persists, Firefox only starts correctly with all the extras deactivated, which is very boring because I have to authorize the installations and restart it, or in case the extras are deactivated, activate them and restart Firefox... Can you help me to solve this please? Sorry but if you don't I will have to return to IE...

I took a little time, but finally I fixed the problem. (Mostly because I didn't have time to do it before) I noticed that my AV has an anti-phishing toolbar which Firefox can't remove, (it simply doesn't have the "remove" button in the Add-ons Manager), I got suspicious about that kind of behaviour and decided to uninstall the AV. Fortunately it solved the problem and allows us to conclude that it was an incompatibility issue caused by AV toolbar. Thank you for your precious help!

Hi,

You may also have to configure the security software to fully allow Firefox + sub processes/related files. Many antivirus products have additional capabilities/modules like process monitoring, process virtualization, sandboxing etc.

Configuring AV/Firewalls

Sorry, I reconfigured my Firewall (Windows Firewall), and AV (BitDefender AV 2010) to allow Mozilla Firefox (C:\Programs\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe) but didn't have succeed. I decided to experiment downgrading Firefox and fortunately I had success with the Firefox version 7.0, which means it was the software development that created the problem and takes me to conclude that we are talking about a Firefox bug in need of correction. Please notify me in case you have further news that may be helpful to solve the problem.

You can try deleting the extensions.* files in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox. You can also open the profile folder via Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder. At the next start-up Firefox may ask you one more time for approval with each tab corresponding to an installed add-on. You can either click Continue, or select to allow and Continueon each tab and click Restart on the last tab. Please see this.

If the problem persists please check if this happens in a new profile. If the new profile is okay, you can then Reset Firefox on the old (previous) profile via Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information.

You can also try to temporarily disable Bitdefender for a few minutes and check. Firewall/AV Pitfalls.

Already done without success... I am expecting to upgrade the AV soon, I will let you know if the problem persist without the AV installed.

Thanks for the update. Let's hope you'll be able to find and fix the problem.
