The new update removed lines between the tabs. How do I get them back?

Same as question 1337885, which was marked "solved", despite never being solved. (Solved for a few months is not solved!)

Does every user seriously have to go through the rigmarole of manually editing a CSS file in order to have a usable UI? (as per https://ourtechroom.com/tech/get-back-old-tab-design-firefox/, for example)

Firefox 89 significantly changed the tab appearance from adjacent boxes to indicating the active tab as a kind of bubble. Obviously lots of people preferred the other appearance, but there is no built-in way to switch between them.

If you can't get used to using the site icon as a kind of visual divider between tabs, then CSS would be the most effective workaround. As long as you're diving in, I'll suggest taking a look at my (unofficial) site here:

Getting used to the site icon as a divider (which it really isn't good at, as it's of varying size, shape and colour) is one issue. The other is that the active tab isn't really indicated at all. I don't know who thinks it looks like a bubble, when it's almost identical to every other tab.

If "there is no built-in way to switch between them", then there simply should be. Users should not be forced to go through all this coding to have a usable browser UI. In other words, what you put in https://www.userchrome.org/firefox-89-styling-proton-ui.html should just be an option built into Firefox.

The visibility of the active tab varies by theme. I use the default/light theme, but I see it varies on other built-in and add-on themes.
