When I type a url into the url bar, how do I open it in a new tab?

For the longest time, I've been able to open a url in a new tab by holding alt when I press enter to go to the website. Now the functionality has changed (for no reason) and holding alt no longer works. I also tried holding shift, ctrl, and ctrl+alt to no avail. Is there a way to restore this functionality, and why was it changed? Holding alt now does nothing.

Edit: Alright, I've found what the problem is. The current TabMixPlus addon is interfering with the hotkey for some reason.
