Firefox sync stopped working my android 7.1.1 phone after quantum update

The sync function worked prior to the update and when I noticed my latest bookmarks and history weren't updating I disconnected my device from the account list, should note at that point the account list showed my phone being synced less than 1 hour ago but nothing had actually synced in quite some time. When I try to sign back in so my phone will sync it goes to the log in screen and the login screen accepts my user n pass redirects to another screen that says this firefox is now connected. But if I go back into the settings menu it still just says sign in, no account settings. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times, tried signing in multiple times and regardless of how many times I get another webpage that says this firefox is now connected the browser doesn't sync and it still says "sign in" in the settings menu instead of account settings. When I went into the help files on the website it actually says that firefox sync doesn't work for mobile at the moment and this issue started after the quantum update. But sync still works just fine on my android 5.1 tablet with firefox quantum so I'm stuck and confused
