We don't expect a "please" from you, but would it hurt too much to be less snarky when asking for help?

See what happens in the Firefox SafeMode. Is that issue still present?

@the-edmeister. The snark I will apologize for. But please be aware that though this problem has seemed to be somewhat commonplace here in these forums, there is yet to be an answer as to why the same computer that has used Firefox and updated it regularly for over 8 years has developed the problem of drag and drop no longer working. Since 'drag and drop' is/was one of the central features that "sold" Firefox to many for several years, it's discontinuance is extremely disconcerting and extremely time wasting. It would seem that solving this problem would not be a secondary interest but rather something of great and urgent concern to Mozilla and its developers.

I have tried Firefox Safe mode . . . there is no difference. Next recommendation?

What you give more details about what are you trying to drag and where you want to drop it?

I have numerous Bookmark Folders displayed on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Until this problem began, I could pull any url into any of the folders on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Then it stopped allowing me to do it. Why?

more options

The following relates to the URL in the address bar, not a URL in the page:

Hi dovingtech, in the early days, the site icon (favicon) was displayed to the left of the address and you could drag that icon to the Bookmarks Toolbar to bookmark the site. However, due to concern that sites could "fake" the secure site lock by showing it as their icon, there is now a standardized "site identity button" to the left. Now you can drag the site identify button (which could be a lock, globe, or warning triangle). Unfortunately, you cannot drag the actual URL.

I am dragging the lock, icon, et al. It worked two months ago. Now it does not. There are dozens offorum mentions of this problem, yet no cure, no explanation. Why???? Mozilla pioneered this feature, THEN used ti as a selling point for the browser, and now doesn't see it's failure as anything important? Well its screwing me up. Do I need to go to social media to expose another Firefox failure? WHY IS THIS NOT A PRIORiITY TO FIX????!!!!??? See the attached picture of what happens when I drag an icon to a folder in the Bookmarks Toolbar. It used to work. It still does on a friend's computer which is the exact same operating systme and fully update Firefox as mine. What gives???!!!

Does it help if you hold down the Ctrl while dragging the globe/padlock or the tab to the Bookmarks Toolbar?

You can also try to open a new windows to see if that works.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

It seems you are using an extension or custom style rule to modify the bookmarks toolbar to have two rows. In case there is some kind of conflict, could you minimize your enabled add-ons as follows:

Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Please set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate". If you don't plan to use it in the next 48 hours, disable it.

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox. As with the plugins, if you don't plan to use it in the next 48 hours, disable it.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any difference?
