My Thunderbird version is 38.7.0 and is being used on Windows XP SP3. I use Thunderbird as the client for 5 e-mail accounts, 4 of which are from the same source, pop.embarqmail.com. Yesterday, I had finished working on the computer and as I closed Thunderbird, I got a message that it had crashed. I sent the crash report, but did not look at it. Later that night, I opened Thunderbird and did not see any e-mail accounts. It looked like it did at the beginning before I added any e-mail accounts. Plus, my theme was gone and I was back at the default layout. When I looked at Saved Passwords in Options, I saw the user names and passwords for all the accounts. When I looked at the Address Book, my personal address book was complete and the collected addresses was as full as before, but the address book for the other four accounts did not appear. Not sure what to do, I added my smallest e-mail account. That went smoothly and downloaded all the e-mails from the Embarq server, but the address book for that account did not reappear. I looked at the profile folder in application data. I had a Local Folder modified in 2014 and a Local Folder-1 modified on that night. There were four pop.embarqmail.com folders, three of which had -1, -2, and -3 suffixes respectively and all of them being modified that night. When I looked inside each profile folder, I could identify each of the e-mail accounts by the size of their inbox and sent files. When I looked at the Error Console, I got a long list of messages such as "Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Thunderbird/chrome.manifest'.", "Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Thunderbird/extensions/%7B972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd%7D/chrome.manifest'." and "Timestamp: 3/24/2016 10:46:04 PM Warning: Use of Mutation Events is deprecated. Use MutationObserver instead. Source File: chrome://calendar/content/widgets/calendar-widgets.xml Line: 496". This was only the beginning. There were 20 other errors, warnings, and messages that happened in the first two minutes. So, this is what I have done. I feel certain that the mail for the five e-mail accounts are still on my computer. What can I do to get Thunderbird to read them and their address books again. Thanks.

I recently posted to "After compacting folders Inbox is completely empty" about a similar problem with another folder I use for archiving emails. After hitting "Compact" in the right-click on that folder, all the emails just vanished. Poof! Luckily, I had read the aforementioned post and did a backup of Local Folders should the problem re-occur. It has...and it hasn't.

After a few test runs, this occurrence is intermittent. I find no reason for the inconsistency. I have taken it on faith that before I compact ANY folder I will need to make a recovery backup. Until I can ascertain why this is going on, such would be my advice before any individual or bulk compacting gets done.

(using T-Bird 38.7.1 on Win7 and XP)

Umm, I've been bouncing around support.mozilla.org for 15 minutes now looking for the forum for asking Thunderbird questions. I always seem to get redirected to a page that only has Seamonkey. Could some kind soul please point me the right way to find Thunderbird?

I'm still on Windows XP and currently using Thunderbird v38.3. I was reminded today of v45 update and after a file integrity problem with in-channel update, I tried to download British v45.0 from the Mozilla download site. Clicking on the link invited me to save the file as v38.5! A second attempt at an in-channel update was successful.

I thought Mozilla support should be advised as I had a similar problem recently with an attempted upgrade to Firefox v45.0. The link was for v43.01 and having just checked, so it remains!

As a result I still can't download the latest standalone British version of either Firefox or Thunderbird for installation on a new system.

Seventeen emails are no longer displaying in the Inbox; all that is displayed is the time and date, which is now identical for all 17, probably the time the laptop was shut down on March 22nd, possibly indicating an abnormal shut down. The emails are listed individually but do not now show the sender, subject or any of the text, but do display the return arrow symbol where an email was replied to prior to the error. Are they lost forever or can they be recovered from somewhere, please? The error is on a Laptop using Windows 7, not this PC.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Monday 28 March 10.20am I tried the Repair function suggested by Matt, but nothing happened - the emails are still all listed, but without any detail or content..

After TB 24.7, my screen look has changed. Attached are screen shots of TB 24.7 and all TB versions after 24.7 for the WRITE, REPLY, FORWARD AND REDIRECT screens.

Currently I am using TB 38.7 on Windows XP but it applies to all versions I updated to since 24.7.

I believe that the screen layouts of TB 24.7 are the proper ones and that the updates after that messed up those layouts after that version. Can anyone help me get back to that look?

With Thunderbird, trying to access my Gmail email, I get "Sending of PSW did not succeed, "Username and PSW not accepted." Similar message when sending email. I have not changed anything from previous use. Unfortunately I do not know my Gmail password and cannot retrieve it because of above problem.

I downloaded TB 17.0.9 and imported my Eudora settings, etc. I've spent hours going through the help articles but can't seem to figure out the problem I'm experiencing connecting to Yahoo. I cannot download or send. When checking for new mail TB shows connecting to smtp.att.yahoo.com, but nothing downloads. When sending it shows the connection, but times out without sending. All of the settings were set from my Eudora import, and all appear correct. Help please!

Thunderbird gets slower and slower. While waiting for msgs to download the progress bar moves but it takes a long time. Sometimes it stops downloading and sometimes it will only download one msg of several. Meanwhile I can use Firefox to access my provider and see the email and read it, while Thunderbird is still cranking away.
