Why is this help site so useless? I can never find anything I need on here, This time I simply want to learn how to refresh (or sync) my IMAP folders, but can I find out how to do that? Too right I can't!

No search using the word 'refresh' comes up with anything helpful. Give me a break guys!

I started getting this alert after a restart last Saturday (2-22-2014) and Thunderbird freezes before it is fully operational: (incorrect application behavior?)

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

I have over 500 GB free on the hard disk and have checked the directory TTBOMA. As recently as this morning I again uninstalled TB using the TB uninstall utility, rebooted and reinstalled from the Mozilla website. Nada,

Toshiba Satellite L875D Windows 8

Troubleshooting info:

Thunderbird Version 24.3.0 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/24.3.0

Any help out there?

Often, though not always, when I open THUNDERBIRD I'm not able to delete or move messages. I need to close the program and reopen. Similarly, when sending emails, sometimes things works smoothly and sometimes they hang up on saving to the SENT box. Apparently they DO get sent but I can't keep a copy. If I close and reopen, then it works as it should.

I'm running Windows 8.1, AVAST internet security, and Thunderbird 24.3.

When I click "get messages" i get the advice "downloading message 1 of ***". Regardless of how often this repeated I only ever get the same 1st message. The remainder do not download. I can look at my web-mail account (which is working normally) and see all of these messages. My computer is on Windows 8.1 but Thunderbird has worked fine until today.

After I set up my IMAP account to Mail.com I got a rogue folder named "RegMail". It appears in Thunderbird and not on the web based mail of Mail.com. Mail.com support says it was not created by them. I can not delete it from Thunderbird. I also get this rogue folder on my Android phone using the LG mail program and also with Bluemail. When I placed a message into the folder it was synced in Thunderbird. The location of the folder is the same as all my other folders which reside on the Mail.com servers. My question is how do I get rid of this rogue folder? Where did it come from and how to keep it away. Thank you in advance for any assistance. I am getting no where with the support people at Mail.com

Hi,

I've been using thunderbird for a few years and have always used the star option, I click the star next to each email which means I have read the email and have dealt with it but now when I click the star it turns it into a unread new email which is very annoying seeing it only started a couple of days ago. Can you let me know what I have to do to get it back to the way it was?

Regardless of what is on my server, there seems to be a limit that Thunderbird can manage for local storage of emails. Why should it matter how many emails are stored locally. I have plenty of room on my mail server and my disk storage. I don't have this problem on any of my Apple devices, only on Thunderbird which I run on Windows 7. It's not a matter of server capacity, because my server is fine. It seems to be an artificial limit by Thunderbird. Why is this so?
