I have Thunderbird 128 installed and just tried to get my gmail account set up. Everytime I try to add it, the Oauth window comes up, I log into Google, and then get a "malformed url" error and the oauth fails.

Anyone else have this problem with 128? Is there a workaround?

Since I installed Thunderbird on my new computer, I have been unable to send email using Thunderbird with my Spectrum account. I can receive email using Thunderbird with no problem.

I called Spectrum tech support and they confirmed that I can both send and receive email from their webmail app, so the problem is not on their end. They also gave me the correct settings to use for Outgoing mail, which I entered within the Thunderbird Account Settings. I read the articles on the Thunderbird support site, but they did not fix my problem.

My Thunderbird version is 115.12.1.0. My OS is Windows 11.

The attached photos show the failure message I am getting and also the account settings. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need anymore information.

I really like Thunderbird from my previous experience so I really hope that you all can help me overcome this issue. My wife can send email from her phone but we really want to be able to do it from the desktop as well. Please help!

Thanks, Bruce

Dear Thunderbird team and community,

long term user here, thanks a lot for your awesome software, absolute essential live-saver.

A few days ago, I did the update to 128.1.0esr (64-Bit) from 115 on win11. Very smooth transition, no issues with my 4 accounts, calendars etc. Great experience.

However, since the update, QuickSearch Ctrl-Shift-K filter that did instanteaneous filters on my 25k mailfolders came to griniding halt.

What happend: - Type a search term with filters on 'subject', 'from' 'to'activate freezes the app for many wall-clock seconds (5-10). Switching to another app and switching back gives me a Windows (Thunderbird not Responsive) in the title bar of the main window during that time.

What I expected: - almost instantaneus filter without noticable lag

What I tried: - deactivate, then uninstall expression search addon incompatible with 128 - restart in Troubleshoot mode with all addons disabled - reboot OS (Win11) several times - searched forums and stackoverflow for similar issues using different search term approaches and combinations

Thank you very much for any pointers how i could resolve the issue. Thanks again for your awesome product!

Jakob

I had a gmail account, I no longer have the gmail account. I deleted the IMAP and SMTP entries. I have no CardDAV entry for that account, no calendar entry, and no chat entry (that I can see; but that old account is lurking somewhere). None of my extensions use (user-configurable) credentials.

What else is there? Is there a way that I can search Thunderbird's config for the account username?

I'm about to screenshot settings, archive this profile, and start anew. I'd really like to avoid that, because I have collected >10 email accounts over the decades and setting everything back up all at once seems a hassle.

What are next troubleshooting steps? TIA for any wisdom or guidance.

Strangely, I can't figure out how to add to someone else's post if it doesn't already have replies so I'm having to start my own thread. Anyway...

Thunderbird on my system is 32-bit on 32-bit Windows and a day or two ago it updated itself to version 115.10.1. Since then it's been slow at sending emails, receiving emails, applying filters and pretty much everything else. Is this being worked on? I saw a couple of similar reports from other people here but like I said, I can't add a reply to them.

And if it's not known about or being worked on, is there some way I can roll back an update?

Have thunderbird reindex mailboxes instead of compacting

I'm running Thunderbird 115.12.0 64-bit on Ubuntu 22.04. I recently had a hard drive crash. I've had to put together my email data from two separate backups to restore everything. The problem is I reorganized the mailbox folders between the backups, so the metadata thunderbird maintains about the data storage will be wrong in my new setup. I have my imap and pop mailboxes restored correctly now under my profile storage and would like Thunderbird to just leave them alone. The problem is, every time I start thunderbird, it automatically wants to compact my mailboxes and free up 5.7 GB of space, which means it will delete some of the newly copied emails it doesn't recognize.

Is there a way to tell thunderbird to start over and reindex the mailboxes that are there? I've tried deleting the global-messages-db.sqlite file, but that does not fix the problem. This is a common problem as I've had it happen in the past as well when reorganizing the folder structure. It seems there should be a way to tell thunderbird to reset its indexes and leave the mailboxes as-is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I'm a long-time user and big fan of T-Bird, but I've been having an issue lately that is driving me nuts.

When using T-Bird, the program frequently locks up for maybe 10-30 seconds, especially when deleting messages, transferring messages to folders, and when downloading new messages. This is super frustrating because it's hard to get much done when your critical software is frequently locking up the entire system.

This happens on all three of my PCs (two workstations and a laptop); two are Win 10, one is Win 11, and this problem is not happening with any other software. I've looked at the task manager when it happens and killed any processes that are taking more than a negligible amount of CPU, but that doesn't fix the problem.

It's hard to know exactly where T-Bird is getting hung up without the right profiling tools, but it seems to happen most frequently when accessing the network. At first I thought it might be a disk space issue, but it's still happening on all the machines even after optimizing the disks and deleting the recycle bin, temporary files, etc. to ensure there's plenty of free disk space.

The only thing I've tried that seems to help a little bit is turning off the quick filter.

I've tried asking support at my ISP (InMotion) if the delay might be caused by the mail server, but sadly they are a bunch of worthless idiots.

Any advice or feedback on how we might narrow down or fix this is much appreciated! :)

thanks in advance...

Hiya,

I just started setting up Thunderbird and I have come across a bug. At least, I think it's a bug.

The situation: I'm viewing favorite folders and unified folders. What I want, is to show some unified folders in my favorite folders. That is, my unified inbox, drafts, and sents. So, I right click on them, I select "✅ Favorite folder" and they appear among my favorite folders. All good, right? However... When I restart Thunderbird, the unified inboxes have disappeared from my favorite folders. And when I right click them, it still says they are marked as "✅ Favorite folder" And the way to make them reappear is by deselecting and reselecting them as favorite folders. See the picture.

So, what is happening? Is this a bug? My guess is that it is. Could anyone help me to circumvent this?

I have been using Thunderbird for IMAP email for more than a decade. I have only two folders that contain emails on the server, Inbox and Sent. All the sent emails are there going back to 2009. I periodically move Inbox emails to local folders, but the emails from 2021 to now are still on the server. I see the headers for all of them in Thunderbird, but when I click on the header of an email from between mid-2022 and a few weeks ago, the result is blank. However, when I use my provider's Control Panel to read these emails, the texts and attachments are there, and I can read them. How can I restore my ability to read these emails in Thunderbird? I am hoping there is some simple setting…

Dear community, I have recently updated my Thinkpad from kubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, which included an update of thunderbird to version 128.1.0esr (and a switch to a snap package).

However, when I type into the quick filter bar, (i) the whole thunderbird GUI freezes until the filter was applied to my several thousand emails, (ii) which also seems to take much longer than before. Before the update, the filter took maybe ~0.5 seconds or less, it now takes ~4 seconds. A lot for just a few thousand emails. Btw, the same happens if I empty the quick filter field. Just that it seems to take now even longer until it shows all of my emails.

I don't know if anyone can help. I feel more this could be something for a bug report?

Thanks a lot in advance, Matthias

since I installed Ubuntu 24.04 Thunderbird (V. 128.1.0 as snap app) changes the path of the local directory each time I restart Thunderbird. Thunderbird v.128.1.1esr (64-bit) (up to date) Windows 11 Pro v.23H2 OS Build 22631.4037 No VPN

Two days ago my Thunderbird installation stopped being able to access my Gmail account. Everything was working fine up until then. Now I get a notice to allow Thunderbird to access Gmail, I click 'Allow' and it fails to authenticate. Collecting mail from my other non-Gmail accounts is unaffected and works fine.

I see these permission approvals are triggering email alerts to my backup Gmail account for this one re: "A new sign-in on Windows" and I am consistently clicking "Yes it was me'" with no effect. I have not done anything to block this activity, and I have no problem logging into this Gmail account from any web browser using the same credentials I am using with Thunderbird ... and which were already in place when this started happening 2 days ago.

I checked in Thunderbird Settings > Privacy & Security and cookies are being accepted, and I can see the cookies in the list.

I have tried deleting the saved (unchanged) password, removing the cookies, and even removing the account and setting it up again, with no joy.

When re-setting up the account this morning, the account creation does not complete and I am receiving this notice: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." (see attached screenshot)

The username and password were (a) unchanged from 3 days ago when this worked fine and (2) confirmed as I can log in to that Gmail account just fine with any web browser using the same credentials, even with incognito browser.

Thinking maybe the Thunderbird auto-detected configuration is incorrect, I changed the IMAP Connection Secutiry setting for the account from SSL/TLS to STARTTLS where it took about 2 minutes on the Checking Password stage and ultimately failed with the same error message.

TIA for any assistance with being able to use Thunderbird once again to work with this Gmail account.

Hi community, I have browsed a bit in the web but haven't found a solution.

I'm a long-term Thunderbird user having this as my to-go-mail-client on every computer since almost 20 years and have always been happy with it. However since the last major update to 128.0.1 my Thunderbird has become very unresponsive whenever I start it or I receive an email.

I have 3 mail accounts in my Thunderbird set up. Two accounts are using POP, these seem to work as expected. The third account is a (company)-Google account that syncs mails via IMAP. Whenever I receive an email with this Google-account I see the blue loading bar at the bottom-right of the UI and this takes a while to load (even when receiving only one email), as long as this loads my Thunderbird is "Not responding". After approximately one minute I can read my new email and work as always (until a new mail comes in and it becomes unresponsive again). Needless to say that this is not very great for working productive and I hope to find a solution, so I don't have to get used to a new mail client.

Currently I'm on 128.1.1 on Windows 11, as said this issue started with the update to 128.0.1 some weeks ago.

Happy to provide more details or test some steps if someone has a helpful idea how to improve things

After auto update to 115.14.0 64 bit, Get Messages (from GMail) shows Inbox total rising and status shows 250 messages but no new messages appear. Each time I try to download messages the status shows the same number and totals increase by that amount. I've gone from 7000+ to almost 15000 trying various "solutions" i've found and tried. Last messages received were Sept 1st just before the update. Using GMail mail app (tremendously unacceptable) I'm able to view new messages but that app creates copious vacuum (S*KS). Background, I'm running a desktop on and currently updated Win 10 Pro with 400Gb free disk space and using No Thunderbird add-ins. As a long-time user of TB, this came as a big surprise and the only "solutions" I found even partially related were dated 4 or more years ago. These included: deleting certain profile files, disabling firewall, virus protection, and VPN. NoJoy! I'm almost to a point of backup, uninstall, re-install, and re-import but reluctant to do that because of 2 previously failed attempts to recover messages. If that is the only workable solution, please point me to an article that allows me to recover my previous message. Thanks in advance.
