I can send emails just fine, but cannot receive any. After a few moments, I get a popup saying my login to the mail server failed, and I can retry, enter new password, or cancel. When I click on Enter New Password, nothing happens. No new dialog box appears. Retry just keeps repeating the same error.

This issue arose when I changed my password on the webserver, and then attempted to update my password in TB under Privacy and Security/Saved Passwords, but only the smtp server is listed. I must have deleted the pop address. I don't see a way to add it back. Other than removing the account and creating a new one, is there a way to add the pop address? Many thanks.

Hi, This is shared computer, so I have set up a primary password to access Thunderbird. But If I click "Anuluj" (Polish word for Cancel) - look picture TB1.png, the program still opens, asking me for a password again, but now in English (look picture TB2.png). After denying password twice, the email list shows up in the backgruond while asking for password again. If I deny the password for the third time (look picture TB3.png) I can freely browse all emails there. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I've received a message from Google saying "We’re writing to let you know that starting September 30, 2024, your Gmail, Contact and Calendar account will no longer support less secure apps, third-party apps or devices that ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password."

Will this have any effect on my Thunderbird usage? Many thanks

We have 2 computers set up with Mozilla Thunderbird. On one of the 2, the outbound password was inadvertently changed. on the other of the 2, the outbound email works fine.

On the 1 the password was lost, I saw an option to view the password. I'd like to do that on the 1 that DOES work so I can re-enter the proper password.

Thank you,

Webmail and Mail in iOS on iPad works problemfree. Is there no place in Settings for Thunderbird where I can put in password? Haven't found any. So far T has always asked for PW when new account. Never had a problem before.

Microsoft has changed securities for mails using now Oauth2 . Extern app like thunderbird on mac must used a password based on Oauth2 on a mac and mail works correctly.

But If you want to add the same values on another mac, the system replies to log on a server like school server, enterprise server. If you don't have external server and you have only a personal mail you cannot use hotmail ,outlook on other mac. What can we do to avoid this and to have mails on several mac PC's.

Sorry in advance for the long reading.

For my personal needs I'm currently using the general purpose desktop platform UBUNTU 22.04.04 LTS and GNOME/WAYLAND. Thunderbird is my personal e-mail and productivity client application, now in it's stable version 115.8.1 (64 bits).

For many years I used to sign my personal emails using S/MIME and a high assurance (Qualified) X.509 digital certificate, protected by my personal ID card (i.e. a smartcard), which is provided by my government (Belgium). It used to work flawlessly under Xubuntu, my favorite OS flavor until about a year ago, with earlier versions of Thunderbird.

Since I migrated to UBUNTU's standard flavour (using WAYLAND), it doesn't work any longer.

I experienced the same behaviour with Firefox when Canonical started distributing only the SNAP version of the app for Ubuntu. This problem is well known and documented. I applied the recommended solution, which was - and still is - to install the Mozilla binary version along the snap version. I can since happily continue authenticating and connecting securely to any belgian e-government web site using the Mozilla firefox binary version with my certificates/Id card, while using the snap version for other purposes.

So I tried the same recipe with Thunderbird, ... to no avail. Both versions (Ubuntu-snap and Mozilla-binary version 115.8.1) display the same, consistent behaviour. I must precise here that I can load the BELPIC PKCS#11 subsytem and configure Thunderbird like I always did. After asking for my smartcard's PIN, TB can access the smartcard and lets me associate my certificate with my email account. Everything seems to work as usual until there, except that signing a message does not work. TB systematically displays the same error message "... the application does not find the certificate or the certificate has expired". Of course my certificate is not expired. It looks like the message composer (not Thunderbird itself) cannot access the smartcard. Disabling apparmor leads to the same result with both the snap and Mozilla versions of TB.

Still, TB - both versions - works as expected when using low-assurance digital certificates, e.g. issued by CAcert.org. I also use those for receiving encrypted personal messages when needed. But those are stored locally together with their private keys.

There is no interest in signing messages with a digital certificate without any legal value, especially on a system that is meant to be more secure. I migrated to the standard ubuntu desktop for the added security provided by snap, apparmor, Wayland, ...

Before I file in a bug record, would someone be in a position to provide any useful hint?

Many thanks in advance.

This started when I received an email that spoofed my own email address and I marked it "Junk". The problem is that I send myself emails with reminders and other information that I want to access later. Now, whenever I send myself an email, it ends in Junk. I made sure my email address is in all of the address/contacts lists on Thunderbird. Every time emails from my own address end up in Junk, I use shift+J to mark them "not junk". I have done this at least a 100 times for numerous messages. I disabled junk processing, restarted, delete the junk folder, re-enable junk processing, start thunderbird again. How can I remove my own email address from the Junk filter?

OAuth2 access to gmail fails in Thunderbird

I have been successfully using Thunderbird (TB) with gmail for years, including via OAuth2 after gmail started requiring it. However, recently one of my gmail accounts stopped working. This seems to have happened when gmail incorrectly thought that I was attempting access from a new client or a new computer and required that OAuth2 authorization be re-established. Now any attempt to access the account from Thunderbird (receiving or sending mail) results in the OAuth2 pop-up window requesting that I allow Thunderbird to access my gmail account. I select "allow", the pop-up closes, and Thunderbird shows "Host contacted, sending login information..." but it never succeeds. After about 2 minutes, it times out with no further message. I have a second gmail account configured in the same instance of Thunderbird, and it continues to work without difficulty; for that account, gmail has not required that OAuth2 authorization be re-established. I am running TB 114.4.1 on Windows 10. I have ensured that cookies are enabled in TB and local storage of passwords in TB is disabled. In my Google account (the one that does not work in TB), I see that access for Thunderbird has been enabled.

I have tried many things, including moving my TB profile to a different folder and uninstalling/installing TB cleanly (no pre-existing profile). Attempting to set up the gmail account in the new installation fails in the same way, when trying to get OAuth2 authorization. Attempting to set up the other gmail account, which was previously working, now also fails. By moving my old profile back to its normal location and re-installing TB, I can get back to where I was (one gmail account works, the other fails).

I have access to another computer, belonging to a friend, also running Windows 10 and having TB installed. In that instance of TB, I tried creating an account tied to the gmail account that is not working in my computer. There I was able to set up OAuth2 access successfully. That TB installation is old, running version 91.7.0. I tried installing TB 91.7.0 on my computer, but there the OAuth2 authorization process still fails.

I have read RFC 6749, which describes how OAuth2 works. It says:

"The abstract OAuth 2.0 flow illustrated in Figure 1 describes the
interaction between the four roles and includes the following steps:
  (A) The client requests authorization from the resource owner. The
authorization request can be made directly to the resource owner
(as shown), or preferably indirectly via the authorization
       server as an intermediary.
  (B) The client receives an authorization grant, which is a
credential representing the resource owner's authorization,
expressed using one of four grant types defined in this
specification or using an extension grant type. The
authorization grant type depends on the method used by the
client to request authorization and the types supported by the
       authorization server.
  (C) The client requests an access token by authenticating with the
authorization server and presenting the authorization grant.
  (D) The authorization server authenticates the client and validates
the authorization grant, and if valid, issues an access token.
  (E) The client requests the protected resource from the resource
server and authenticates by presenting the access token.
  (F) The resource server validates the access token, and if valid,
       serves the request."

Apparently the failure is occurring at step (C) or (D). Either TB fails to request the token correctly, or the authorization server fails to issue the token. Step (B) succeeds; the pop-up requests my username and password, and those are accepted; if I intentionally type the wrong password, it fails.

I still have access to my mail in the problematic gmail account using gmail's web client, but I really need access via a client on my own computer, preferably TB, so that I can store messages locally and sort/access them in more flexible ways.

Please help. I've been struggling with this for many weeks, and I've spent countless hours trying to fix it.
