Here's how it used to work and how I would like it to work: I start Thunderbird, it requests password(s). After I enter them correctly, Thunderbird scans for new mail and will periodically scan for new mail. I could scan sub-folders like sent or trash without entering a password. Sending email requires inputting the password the first time. This behavior used to persist until I closed Thunderbird.

Here's how it is working now: I start Thunderbird, it requests password(s). After I enter them correctly, Thunderbird scans for new mail. Initially I can enter sub-folders soon after startup without entering a password. After some number of minutes if I click on the inbox or do a "get new mail" or enter a sub-folder, it requires I enter the password again. Thunderbird no longer checks for new mail as it seems to have forgotten the password(s) I entered. Sending an email requires entering the password every time to send, and entering the password again every time so it can be copied to the sent folder.

I've been using Thunderbird for decades and this new behavior is very frustrating.

I recently converted one of my emails (yahoo) to oauth2 as yahoo imap will soon be disabled. I noticed the new behavior after this change, but cannot definitely attribute the undesirable behaviour to this change. After this change, the yahoo account no longer requires entering the password upon opening Thunderbird, for entering sub-folders or sending mail. This appears to be persistent.

What I've tried with no success: Run Thunderbird with addons disabled - undesired behaviour. Reinstall current version of Thunderbird - undesired behaviour. Reinstall older version of Thunderbird (clean profile forced) - undesired behaviour. Reinstall current version of Thunderbird with no yahoo account - undesired behaviour. Reinstall older version of Thunderbird (clean profile forced) with no yahoo account - undesired behaviour.

Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the pertinent troubleshooting info: Name Thunderbird Version 68.12.0 Build ID 20200820223055 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/68.12.0 OS Linux 4.19.0-10-amd64 Profile Directory (Local drive) Build Configuration about:buildconfig Memory Use about:memory Performance about:performance Registered Service Workers about:serviceworkers Multiprocess Windows 0/0 Disabled Remote Processes 0 Enterprise Policies Inactive Google Location Service Key Missing Google Safebrowsing Key Missing Mozilla Location Service Key Missing Safe Mode false Profiles about:profiles Mail and News Accounts ID Incoming server Outgoing servers Name Connection security Authentication method Name Connection security Authentication method Default? account2 (none) Local Folders None Normal password account3 (imap) imap.gmx.net:993 SSL/TLS Normal password mail.gmx.net:587 SSL/TLS Normal password true account4 (imap) imap.googlemail.com:993 SSL/TLS Normal password smtp.googlemail.com:587 SSL/TLS Normal password true account5 (imap) imap.mail.yahoo.com:993 SSL/TLS OAuth2 smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465 SSL/TLS Normal password true

Cordialement.

I have an NAS device on my LAN, and I can make shares on it accessible to the web. Is it possible to put my Profile on there, so I can access the same thing from both my desktop and my laptop?

I've just installed version 78.4.0 (64-bit), on an iMac running OS 10.12.6. So far the laptop, a MacBook Pro, is running an older version on a newer OS, but it can be ugraded. I am thinking of upgrading the iMac too.

(I've not got any access to the laptop currently, so at the moment I'm just after knowing whether this is in fact possible, and if anyone has done something like it. I can't try out anything anyone suggests just yet!)

Many thanks.

Stop password memory for Yahoo and Gmail

I have been a regular user of Thunderbird for fifteen years. Every morning I enter passwords on Thunderbird for email on Webmail, Yahoo, Sympatico, Bell Canada and Gmail.

This routine has been disrupted after I upgraded Thunderbird to version 78.4.0 (32-bit).

I find now that my passwords are no longer required for Yahoo and Gmail. I have several times removed the remembered passwords in the Thunderbird Options>Privacy & Security dialogue for those two providers but the password memory persists.

I have two Yahoo accounts in Thunderbird. Their server name is imap.mail.yahoo.com.

When I sign on to the first one I am careful to remove the check mark from the “Stay signed On”. I receive a response in Thunderbird that a new Yahoo signon has occurred.

The second Yahoo account can receive email but when I send a message to it from Thunderbird the message is not delivered. I receive a notice that sending of the message failed because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.mail.yahoo.com was lost in the middle of the transaction.

Please tell me how to escape from this troubling problem.

Thanks

I have tried entering past passwords for my email account and the master password. I have tried the following: Deleting master password and resetting it using the Error console Checking that SMPT settings are right (ie as per my email provider on webmail) Uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird disabling my antivirus etc software

Nothing works. Can anyone help.

I've been a Thunderbird user for ~12 years without any problems. However, I've been unable to access my email account the past month. I've tried many times and various efforts to re-establish logging in, including resetting my password (numerous times) with my email provider (AT&T) as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird (early versions and the latest version). I reboot the computer before each installation. Regardless what version I use, when trying to create an account using my existing email address (kalani1@bellsouth.net), I receive the attached error message. I've tried to switch to an IMAP server setting without success. My computer hardware and software configurations have not changed since I switched from Win 7 to Win 10 in Jan. I'm able to login to my AT&T web mail account each time I reset my password, but unable to login to Thunderbird. Hoping someone can help.

I am receiving 100's of spam emails. They are all advertising different types of products but they all say they are from AT&T High Speed Internet. I have used the junk filter on them but it does not pick them up as junk. I have to do it manually each time. I have contacted my UVerse provider and they cannot assist because it is getting through Yahoo to Thunderbird. They say that it is a problem that I will have to have assistance from Thunderbird to resolve so that I can have this listed as junk and will not have to do this manually. I am at my wit's end. Please, please help me!
