Hi,

I switched from Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird 91 recently (clean install, Windows 10 Pro). My workplace uses Gsuite, I set up IMAP (port 993) in Thunderbird and I'm getting and sending emails just fine. Me and my colleagues use S/MIME certificates by Actalis.

The thing is, I can decrypt most of my colleague emails but there are a couple of people where Thunderbird crossed out the S/MIME icon and says "There are unknown problems with this encrypted message." In Windows Live Mail I can see it's encrypted and I can read it just fine. It's just Thunderbird that's being funny.

After switching from Windows Live Mail, I haven't done anything with the certificates. I'm not sure why it can decrypt some people but it can't decrypt others. Their certificates are all valid and they appear in the certificate manager in Thunderbird.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it, so any help would be appreciated!

For quite some time now, some messages that were previously set as Not Junk, are still going into Junk folder. Interestingly, these messages are only from a handful of known valid sources. Further, all these valid messages are setup in the Message Filters, all with the "Get New Mail" option set for "Filter before Junk Classification".

When in the Junk folder, these emails are marked as "Not Junk", which transfers then into the Inbox. Clicking the Inbox automatically sends them to the appropriate sub-folder. It's as though something is forcing these messages into Junk BEFORE Thunderbird even classifies them, bypassing it's internal filtering system. What's frustrating, is that there are no means to see what keywords or phrases are being flagged as Junk, or why those particular emails seem to get into the Junk Folder in the first place.

I should note that while I'm with Spectrum, the email account that's giving me this grief is on my legacy Comcast email account. Could this be where Comcast's servers are flagging these as junk BEFORE they reach Thunderbird, and TB simply routes them to Junk, bypassing any additional checks?

Thanks, Bill

Upgraded from a very old Eudora environment in 2 steps to TB 91.1. Windows 10. All works fine, but the passwordmanager will not save my email-password during normal operation, though the 'save pw' checkbox is there. It's a clean installation, no add-ons. If I start TB in safe (troubleshoot-) mode, all works fine. I don't seem to be able to find out the reason of this change in behaviour, would be happy with any suggestions.

How can I tell thunderbird to use public key XXXfoo for email recipient address YYYbar?

With thunderbird 78 it's not possible to encrypt the email for a certain recipient with his public key. The public key is visible in the KeyManager. It is verified. But the recipient's address does not occur in the name of the key. Maybe this is the reason for the problem, that thunderbird 78 tells me, that there is no key available to encrypt the mail with. With enigmail, I could define a mapping gnupg key <--> recipient address. I didn't find an equivalent for that in thunderbird 78.

Hello,

I just installed Thunderbird on an older laptop with Ubuntu. The version I am running is 78.13.0 I cannot encrypt my email messages. OpenPGP encryption is enabled (I even checked in the Config Editor), and I've imported by personal/public keypair in the key manager. Still, the option to encrypt messages is greyed out.

Anyone know about this issue and can offer a fix?

I tried to ask this question a few days ago, but I see when I go to the forum that most of my question is missing, so I am posting it here again, with any luck in full:

I downloaded Thunderbird to my new laptop. In the setup it asked me to enter a primary password I used the same primary password I was using on the machine from which I wanted to transfer.

I copied the old Thunderbird folder into my new machine at the designated location (.../roaming) in order to keep transfer all my old info, and all the folders etc from my old machine transferred correctly.

When I download or send a message, I get the usual prompt for a password to the sbcglobal account I am accessing. And it works fine. But I would like to store the password so I don't have to type it in each time, so I check the box to store it using a primary password.

The primary password dialog offers to let me "change", but not to enter a new password (the top box is greyed out, implying that it accepted a primary password during setup). I type in the same primary password I used in setup and in my old machine, but it just tells me the password can't be changed.

The only thing I can think of is that I mistyped the primary password during setup. There is no Show Password option to check this.

How do I either reset the primary password or get it to recognize the one I've already put in?

I tried using the procedure under the following link, but it didn't work (perhaps only for older versions of Thunderbird?) : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/protect-your-thunderbird-passwords-master-password

Help much appreciated.

I have two gmail accounts that I use with Thunderbird. I am able to send and receive emails from each of them.

My problem is that when I am in my secondary account and if I try to forward an email, I get a popup message that I need to log into my primary gmail account. If I re-enter my password, it says the login failed and I need to change the password for that account.

I tried deleting the saved password, closing Thunderbird, reopening Thunderbird, and logging into the primary account using the same password, I was able to log in, but get the same error.

The server settings for both of my accounts are the same. Any ideas?

I am trying to get S/MIME set up properly. I have my personal certificate set up and installed - I can send signed messages. However, when I try to send an ecrypted message to a recipent with a DOD certificate, I run into an error that the certificate is not valid. I have installed the DOD root certificates, trusted them for email/websites, and imported the individual's signature cert into the store.

How do I change the settings / trust on the individual's certificate to trust it? It is within the valid date range.

I am running Win10 with Thunderbird 78.12.0 32bit. I had a problem with logging into my providers email website so I sought help from Tech support at TWC. He solved my problems by resetting my password. When I tried to use TB a window popped up and said Enter your password for dejones78@twc.com on mail.twc.com: see attached. I entered the password that was in my Password manager but that did not solve the problem because I got another window that said my message was sent but not saved because of network errors. I went to my wife's computer and tried to access TB but received the same error messages. I did nothing to alter TB settings before my contact with TWC my email server. I will appreciate your efforts to figure this one out for me. As it is I can send but not received email.

When I start Thunderbird I get the login box. If close it or just ignore it I still enter Thunderbird with full access to the accounts. Any ideas? I have just updated to 78.12.0 (32-bit). The log-in has always seemed a bit clunky, often it does not gain focus and is hiding behind other running programs, also if I have changed my mind and do not want too carry on with Thunderbird it is impossible to close the program until signing in, it would be useful if one could close it at any time. Hi Skilled Thunderbird Users,

I've just started using Thunderbird. My problem is similar to others, but not exactly the same. I have my own URL: e.g. mybusiness.com. I am using livemail.co.uk to access email.

I have set up email1@mybusiness.com, and email2@mybusiness.com. It almost works. I have sent and received emails from both, though the parameters are getting muddled and I have to redo them.

When I set it up, I put in different email addresses and different passwords for each address. With the same livemail parameters.

However, when I send, it mixes up the email addresses and says that "email2@mybusiness.net" is not the right address for email1@mybusiness.com. And other similar concerns. Sometimes it thinks I am trying to use mail.mybusiness.com - which isn't something that I've ever put in to the settings.

I have tried resetting this up repeatedly and it works for me to send/receive an email or two and then it mixes up the settings again.

Any ideas? Thanks, Rob

Does Thunderbird support Server Name Indication (SNI)? I've been doing searches trying to find this out, but have not yet found anything. Thanks.

Background: My understanding is that a mail server (like exim) can use an SSL/TLS certificate specific to the domain of the sender's email address for encrypting submissions. But the email client (as in Thunderbird) has to support SNI as part of the STARTTLS process.

I'm having trouble with SMTP and IMAP settings, getting my email into Thunderbird. It says no, wrong password, but I've been all over GMail reset the password, but nothing works. I'm really fried. I can be kinda tech savvy but this has been too long a day and I have other major projects that need Thunderbird to be working now, soon.

Can someone recommend an online geek that could sort this out for me. I used to have an awesome guy but he's moved on and I don't want to sign up for a service for this one glitch.

I've checked all tutorials, checked Google, checked the settings in Thunderbird. No joy. Thanks if you have a suggestion.
