Ugraded to Version 78.7.0 - Can receive but not send Yahoo Emails

I upgraded to TB Version 78.7.0 at the end of Jan 2021. After the upgrade I can no longer send Yahoo emails. I contacted Yahoo and the troubleshooting steps they suggested were to verify my email settings which is the same as what the Thunderbird help says to do. I also tried to change the Minimum version of TLS from 3 to 1 which didn't help and the handshake option (which I saw in the TB help forum) but that didn't work either.

I went through the changes that Yahoo required back in October where you had to change the authentication method to OAuth2 and everything was working fine until this latest TB upgrade.

Any help will be appreciated.

This morning when I opened Mozilla Thunderbird, I wanted to see the important emails that I had previously "Starred", but the usual Starred tab at the top of the page wasn't there. So without making note of every step I took & now can't remember, I finally got my email page to have the "Starred" tab.

The bad thing is though,even though I have the usual tabs at the top , the page only lists the subject titles & the number of the order they were received in. The usual columns like who  the sender is  , & date & time received aren't there.  
Do you know how I can make it go back to normal, where I have the usual columns?

I have been very happy with Thunderbird for some 12 years, and now at 80 years young I have had great difficulty with all of the changes you made when you recently up graded Thunderbird. 1 Menu bar has disappeared from the top of my In-mail box. 2 Personal address list that was listed on the LHS of my forward email page now gone. I had a friend who spends all of his day working with computers but not Thunderbird or Firefox, spend 2 hours trying to resolve my problems but than gave up and suggested contact you for help.

Why change something when system is already running well.

I've been using Thunderbird as a POP email repository for years without any issues (I use IMAP for connecting from other devices), but I recently had to wipe my windows 10 installation and start again. I backed up all my local email folders beforehand, so I've not lost anything, but when I added my email account details, Thunderbird re-downloaded over 3000 emails and deleted them from the Gmail server, despite me having ticked the box which says leave emails on the server until I delete them. They are all in the "bin" folder on the server, so I should be able to restore them all, but how do I stop them being downloaded and deleted again?

Interestingly, if I locally delete an email, then go to the server and move it back from the bin to the inbox, Thunderbird does not download again.

I must have configured it wrong, but I'm blowed if I can see where. Any ideas? See screenshot of server settings.

Have a new computer and set up Thunderbird 78 on it. Old computer had v78 and at top of folder pane had a row with "Name", "Unread", "Totals" displayed (option to show "Size" turned off). This allowed number of messages in each folder to be shown against the folder name. On new computer have enabled the Folder Pane but cannot get the row that allows display of (folder) name, unread, totals and size. Tried searching through options and also seeing what left clicks or right clicks might offer but no luck. (Note have another computer running v78 which has folder pane top row working; perhaps upgrading from earlier versions preserved this feature.) I have not yet looked in the prefs.js file but hope someone can give me a helpful answer before I do that.

I'd like to search a folder for a named attachment, but I can't work out how to do it. When I select "Attachment" in the first column of the "Search Messages" window, no matter what I put in the second column (e.g., "is", "begins with") and no matter what I put in the third column (including the name of, or first letter of, an attachment known to be in the folder being searched), I always get the same result: "No matches found". A solution would be greatly appreciated as it is not an uncommon for me to need this kind of search. Thanks, Ian.

I'm running Thunderbird 78.9.1 (64-bit) on Mac Osx.

I have these add ons:

  • Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV
  • Send Later
  • Send Later Button
  • TbSync

The problem I'm experiencing is autocomplete doesn't work when composing an email.

I've checked the address book and it is empty - so records presumably are not being populated.

I manually added a record to the address book and auto complete for that record still doesn't work.

In Preferences - Addressing, Local Address Books is ticked. Also ticked is 'automatically add outgoing.... to Collected addresses'

I've checked my profile folder, I tried deleting all files starting with abook.. hasn't helped

Lastly I don't have a file called "abook.mab" instead it is "abook.mab.bak"

Any help and pointers would be really appreciated.

I am an experienced email user but this is the first time I have used Thunderbird. When I compose an email I can open the address book by using Ctrl-Shift-B and then drag the address I want into the To: field or I can start typing the name into the field. Is this the only way to use the address book? Other clients I have used you can click on the To: and then click on a name to populate the field. This seems a quicker way to do it. Am I missing something?

Na mijn overstap van windows live-mail naar thunderbird dat grotendeels prima is verlopen, blijft één probleem over, namelijk dat één van de 4 accounts die ik heb, krijg ik niet volledig aan de praat. Het gaat om een oud ziggo account aangemaakt in de begintijd van Ziggo. Dat werkte altijd prima in Windows Live Mail (WLM)in de IMAP configuratie. Nu lukt dat niet meer met thunderbird. Ik kan het gebruiken om mail te krijgen en verzenden, maar ik kan de imap-mappen niet meer zien. Ik heb de zelfde settings als in WLM ingevoerd, maar dat werkt dus niet. Heeft iemand dat wel werkend gekregen, het lukt mij niet?.

ik gebruik nu: account : <naam>@home.nl server: imap.ziggo.nl poort: 993 verb : SSL/TLS (normaal password)

Some of the most critical problems with Thunderbird that is unable to recover Thunderbird Email which is permanently deleted(or accidental deletion of files). Many users use some System Cleaning utility that speeds up the functionality of your system by cleaning the unwanted files. Keep in mind, these tool at times can delete necessary files from your computer.

To repair a Mozilla Thunderbird folder — when emails have disappeared, or to restore deleted Thunderbird messages perform following steps

Note: Turn off automatic mail checking to avoids a potential cause for conflicts.

  • Select the folder you want to repair in Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • Select Properties…from the menu that appears.
  • Go to the General Information
  • Click Repair Folder.
  • Now click OK.

- SO I DID THIS, WITH SOME SUCCESS..... - SUCCESS, IN THAT, BY GOING THROUGH, PROPERTIES / REPAIR FOLDER / CLICK OK, "THEN", THE CONTENTS, WOULD "REAPPEAR" = GREAT, SUCCESS I THOUGHT............ - HOWEVER.......... I COULD NOT FIND, I COULD NOT DO, THE FIRST STEP OF, "* Note: Turn off automatic mail checking to avoids a potential cause for conflicts." - THUS, WHEN I CLICKED OFF THE SUB OR MAIN FOLDER, AND WENT TO ANOTHER FOLDER, THAT WAS, THEN EMPTY, OR PART EMPTY, AND, IN GOING BACK, TO THE FOLDER, WHICH I HAD JUST, "REPAIR FOLDER", THAT WAS ALSO, "NOW" PART EMPTY OR EMPTY.........

THE GOOD NEWS IS, THAT I CAN AT LEAST, "SEE", THAT THE E - MAILS, ARE NOT TOTALLY LOST, WHICH WOULD BE A DISASTER, FOR ME. AND I HAVE ALSO, BEEN ABLE TO FILE, TO MOVE AROUND E - MAILS, ONCE I HAVE, "REPAIR FOLDER". BUT IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, AND IT ONLY WORKS, WITH EXTRA UNNECESSARY ACTIONS.

FURTHER, I ALSO FOUND, THE FOLLOWING, ON THIS WEBSITE -

=Toad-Hall Toad-Hall Top 10 Contributor 2/19/21, 10:24 AM Emails are stored in mbox text files eg: Inbox Thunderbird uses another file called 'Inbox.msf' as an indexing file, so this is used to display the list of emails, then when you select and email, it knows where to look in the Inbox mbox for the actual email which is then displayed. If the Inbox.msf file has become out of synch showing issues like you mention, often a 'Repair Folder' will force the Inbox.msf file to be removed and new one created where it reads the mbox file and is updated. It does not delete emails and it does not effect the actual mbox file storing the emails. If the Inbox mbox file that hold emails is empty then the newly created Inbox.msf file cannot show what is not there. So, why is the Inbox mbox file empty ? If the mbox file became corrupted and was then compacted to remove all hidden marked as deleted emails, (which occur when you either move or delete emails) then it may not be able to read which emails were marked as deleted and so ends up empty. Corruption can occur if compacting has not been done on a regular basis or not been performed at all. Perhaps the most common cause of Corruption occurs if an Anti-Virus product has scanned the file and tried to fix it or quarantined the file. Anti-Virus products cannot work out that the mbox file contains many emails, it just sees it as a single file - which it is and nobbles the entire file in one go. Anti-Virus products usually have no effect on the Inbox.msf file as it does not contain emails, so it is left alone, hence why you appear to have a list of emails. The result being the index (msf) file is trying to find something that has already gone, so weirdness abounds. After a fix of index file, it shows what is really in mbox file. My advice: Compact the Inbox on a regular basis. I would also compact the Drafts and Junk as well as they will get a load of deletions. Do not allow Anti-virus products to scan any Thunderbird profile folders, so make them exempt from scanning. If you do want to scan them, I suggest you alter settings so the Anti-Virus asks what to do, then you can stop any 'fix' by the AV. Under no circumstances do you want any AV or other product that cleans up files anywhere near your Thunderbird profile folders.

Helpful? - SO YES, ON THE 8TH MARCH 2021, I DID UPDATE MY ANTI VIRUS = PANDA DOME, AND ITS LICENSES, WHICH WAS BEFORE THE DUE DATE, AS A CHEAPER £££, OPTION, TO DO EARLY. - ON UPDATING, MY ANTI VIRUS, I DID RUN, COMPLETE FULL SCANS, BUT THIS WAS ON THE 8TH AND 9TH AND 11TH MARCH = BEFORE THE FRIDAY 12TH MARCH 2021.

Since the latest Thunderbird update I have been unable to send/receive E-mail from accounts I have set up using cPanel. Password is correct and the SSL/TLS is version 1.2. I've tried configuring manually and tried unsecure password settings. I deleted one of the accounts and created it again and same problem. I get connection to server timed out. I went into the editor and increased the mailnews.tcptimeout to 2000. I tried using a hotspot and was getting a failed to connect error wanting me to enter new password. I double checked and password is correct. I restarted my router and now sometimes get failed to connect wanting new password and other times get connection timed out. My G-mail account is working. Other programs are letting me download my E-mail with same settings I have in Thunderbird. I'm kind of out of ideas about what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi everybody,

I was just w riting to ask as I can only seem to increase the font of the e-mail written text, but really the interface size is absolutely ridiculously small and is there any way I can enlarge this (without reducing the resolution of my monitor which is not really a solutuion)

Not everyone has the best eyesight for this kind of thng and I find thunderbird the best mail and calander client but at least on windows or in browser-mail I can CTRL+ to zoom in and read, it's at the stage where I might have to use the windows magnifying tool just to see t hings like "inbox" "spam" and my list of emails' titles.

Please tell me there exists an option to make all this larger like interface size, I mean come on almost every modern software has an option bar slider to increase these things

Using Thunderbird Version 78.9.1, on Windows 10 20H2. I can no longer drag/drop an email contact from "All Address Books," "Personal Address Book," or "Collected Addresses," to any of my 12+ address lists. When I attempt to drag&drop, it places a duplicate contact in the source book instead of copying into the destination list. I'm not certain how long the problem has existed, the last time I needed to perform this task was about three months ago. I usually take upgrades as soon as they are offered.

When "Local folders" is focused in the left pane, the "Thunderbird - Local Folders" pane shows on the right.

This is a PITA, since when that pane appears, I can't switch anymore between panes with my keyboard (F6 stops working; it's not clear if this is a bug or not).

My problem is that sometimes, but not always, when I open Thunderbird, "Local Folders" is focused by default, so I don't have any way to get control of Thunderbird via keyboard.

Is there any way to prevent this? I have multiple mail accounts set up, I'm not sure if this is related or not.

From Victoria, BC, Canada: my email server, Telus, forced me to a "mandatory upgrade" which preserves my old address, but makes me to go through Google. During the difficult "transition", I was told that the new system would not support Thunderbird. What is going to happen to my extensive record (correspondence, saved articles, address books etc)? Will I still be able to access this history or will it all have to be transferred to f.ex. the cloud - I have a Dropbox account.???? Desperately
