How can I create, or recreate, a Trash folder in my IMAP Thunderbird, v. 78.3.1, email account? I'm running Windows 10. When I right-click on my account heading in the left pane of the Thunderbird window, select “New Folder”, type “Trash” in the Name field, and then click on “Create Folder”, nothing happens. I've read the “Chosen Solution” to “The Trash Can is missing on Thunderbird” in the online Support, but it presupposes that a Trash folder already exists. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Greg

*SOLVED* How to undo upgrade from Thunderbird v68.10.0 > 78.7.1 ?

Hi all,

upfront I have to admit that I hadn't been paying close enough attention when I ran my Linux distro's updates this morning and stepped into the Thunderbird v78.x upgrade trap.

It's a mess. What's extra annoying is that I had made the decision to avoid this v78.x upgrade until this OpenPGP implementation will have matured, since having the GPG passphare stored on the drive is wrong on so many levels. And 'no', setting a master password is no sensible 'workaround' ! This is what I am talking about: https://www.ghacks.net/2020/12/07/you-need-to-use-a-master-password-in-thunderbird-if-you-use-openpgp/

So this is what I did so far: - restored a previous system snapshot (Linux Mint 20.1) - changed the Thunderbird launcher command to "thunderbird --allow-downgrade %u" - launched Thunderbird - reinstalled language packs and addons, incl. Enigmail - removed the master password which I set up after this TB v78.7.1 upgrade was performed

These are my questions/issues: 1) How do I remove all that which was done to my profile folder in the course of this upgrade? (I would have a full copy of that profile folder, unfortunetaly only from November 2020 and I'm using POP3 instead of IMAP for all accounts)

2) <Here used to be a stupid question>.

3) How do I ensure that NO passphrase remains stored ANYWHERE on PC as a result of this upgrade? Do I have to manually edit the key4.db SQLite database or would using the older version of that from this November 2020 backup be helpful, since, if I understand things correctly, this (Open)PGP implementation uses that file for storing such information?

4) How do I get Enigmail to work again? Opening Enigmail settings shows my key(s) but the Enigmail icons on the menu bar are grayed out. What am I missing?

5) Which *.bak files in the profile folder do need need attention/renaming/replacing?

A BIG thank you to everyone who can help clear up this mess in advance!

How can I create general INBOX for a few IMAP accounts?

I believe that this started when Thunderbird updated to version 78.7.1. Emails that are in my Trash folder are deleted after 3 days. Today is 2/25 and all emails in Trash prior to 2/22 have been deleted. I noticed this when I had to retrieve a message that had been sent to Trash. I have confirmed that my settings are set to "do not delete any messages". Any suggestions? Thank you Mike

I was connected to O365 with my work email but cannot send any message. IMAP works just fine, all folders synced regularly, but sending not work for some unknown reason.

SMTP setting is as follow: smtp.office365.com port 587 STARTTLS OAuth (this is correct setting, all others shows errors, including outlook.partner.cn & smtp.office365.cn, which is completely normal since I'm not in China).

The first thing that jump out is that my password is not OK, which is not correct. Password is OK. Click on "Retry" or "Enter new password" do nothing, just return the same pop up. If "Cancel", then receiving message with "unknown error 80004005" and all other blablabla about unknown reasons, with instruction to check my SMTP settings.

I've tried all variations available, but nothing works. Sometimes, at some moment after click on Cancel, it said "Message sent" and I can see it in my Sent Items folder, but it's fake because I never receive that test message to my personal Gmail address.

I have already tried all suggestions I could find (deleting passwords, resetting all, restarting, deleting and adding account again, changes in Config editor related to security.tls), but nothing worked for me.

My OS: Win 10 Pro, build 2004, TB version 78.3.2

Any advise is very welcome. Thank you all in advance.

My Thunderbird Office365 email quit sending. It happened about 2 weeks after I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my system. I think it was coincident with an update of the system. My other emails work fine. It tells me the auth failed because "SmtpClientAuthentication is disabled for the Tenant." Thunderbird has a limited number of SMTP authentication methods, and I tried them all. I went to the page the error recommends, and it is for exchange servers. I have microsoft365 from GoDaddy. Any help would be appreciated.

The option to "Leave Messages On Server" is present on my home computer (version 78.7.1 32 bit) but missing on the laptop version (78.7.1 64 bit) I use for travel and multiple Zoom meetings. Is this a program omission or should I try to install the 32 bit version on the laptop? The laptop uses Windows 10.5 and my office computer uses Windows 8. Does that make a difference? Obviously, when I am home I want to download all e-mail, but when I use the laptop I want the messages to remain on the server -- so the present set-up is backwards. egsapp@comcast.net

When I'm writing a message, I cannot change the color of the text. I'm not sure when this started, I've been able to do it in the past. I'm on a new computer (iMac) but I've migrated Thunderbird following instructions, and have no other issues. When I select some text and try to change the color I get a small window, when I click 'choose a color' I get all kind of palets to choose from (I think this is all MacOS). But when I hit OK nothing happens. There is not even an action that I can undo, so literally nothing happens.

See screenshot attached.

Doe anyone have a clue how to fix this? Thanks!

I use Thunderbird. A short time ago a dialog box began to pop up each time I deleted an email, stating in effect, "hey, we can delete this and every other deleted email in your TRASH folder." Claiming to save a whole bunch of disk space. I once responded improperly and POOF! I lost a good deal of the stuff I sometimes refer back to. But it seems to matter naught how I respond, the current deletion is GONE! Please note, it is MY disk space we are discussing. I bought and paid for it and have plenty. I am also capable of periodically deleting those unwanted emails all by myself. Needless to say, my blood pressure goes up each time I hit delete. Please tell me how to stop this non-sense.

Perhaps it is that I do not understand, but now am afraid to do anything with deletions

Since the last 2 Thunderbird updates (using 78.5.0) over the last 6 weeks TB will not send email. After trying to send email several times and entering password I save the email msge to my drafts folder. I leave it for 10-15 minutes, open that email out of drafts and it sends without asking for the password. My ISP is Iprimus.com.au and I have checked using the webmail function and eveything works ok. I have checked both the incoming and outgoing server settings and they are correct as to Iprimus's configuration requirements for TB My Pc system is running Win 10 Home a 64 bit system, Version 1909, Build 18363/1198 running. I'm on Windows 7 and am using Thunderbird 78.7.1 (32-bit release). About Thunderbird says I'm on the release update channel, whatever that is.

Suddenly this morning, when I try to send a new message or reply to a message from someone else, a whole bunch of junk characters show up. I have copied them below this message after my name.

Thunderbird was working with no problem this morning, and I did go into settings to try to figure out how to change my signature, and somethow I must have changed something, but I have no idea what or how.

On reply messages, below all these junk characters, the sender's message to which I want to reply does appear--after the junk characters end.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?

Thanks for any help or insight.

Mike

I'm trying to import contacts from Windows Live Mail. When I use the .csv method it imports everything but only shows a human silhouette on each line with NO text. When I try the .vcf method, WLM won't let me export to anything but a folder, and the import process doesn't recognize the folder as a whole and will only import one address at a time if I open the folder. How do I do this???

I was running Thunderbird 86 beta. It has problems with hyperlinks so I downgraded to stable release 78.7.1 which required me to create a new profile because the 86 beta profile can't be used by the 78 release. I didn't want to recreate my address book manually in 78 so I copied abook.sqlite from the 86 profile to the 78 profile. When I open the address book, none of the contacts appear. Oddly, I had made 3 contact lists in the previous profile and those lists appear, complete with the addresses of the contacts. I can edit the contacts that appear in the contact lists. But if I search for one of the contacts in the list, I get no results. If I start typing a contact name in a new message, the address is not found by Write. Is there a way to get all my contacts back from the previous profile?

EDIT: I opened the abook data read-only to see what was there. All my contacts data is there but the address book doesn't display it except for the 3 lists mentioned above.

EDIT: OS is Ubuntu 20.04 on Thinkpad E420; desktop is gnome.

EDIT: In addition to abook.sqlite there is abook.mab.bak, a text file which seems to have all my contacts data in it also. A bit hard to read because of the format.

EDIT: Found the problem, I think. The database structure for 78.7.1 abook has 4 tables - cards, list_cards, lists, and properties. The database structure for 86.01b does not have the cards table. Apparently this table is needed to list the contacts in the Personal Address Book.

Is there a way to create this table from the properties table?

I have 2 identical Zoom invitations, one on my desktop and one on my laptop. The one on my desktop has the correct meeting time info (1800 to 1930) but the one on my laptop shows 1500 to 1630. This has happened two weeks in a row. Where is the laptop picking up the wrong time from? If accessing the emails using another application other than Thunderbird, the info contained therein is all correct on both systems. Any ideas?

I am using Thunderbird to view MBOX archive files from old employee mailboxes. I am able to import the MBOX contents using ImportExportTools NG. In the folder list I can see the name of the archive and what I assume is the number of messages (around 6,000). I don't think scrolling through the preview pane is showing 6000+ messages. Which is fine, because at 6000 search would be a better choice.

If I type the subject, or name of a sender or recipient which I can clearly see in the preview list in the Search bar, Thunderbird tells me no results found. I would like to be able to search by date range, by subject, or by message content. How can I do this?
