I am trying to figure out how to turn on the feature that when I reply to a message, the message is quoted in the reply. I hope that makes sense. This feature was working before but somehow I managed to turn it off and I cannot find a way to turn it back on.

Thank you,

I am beyond annoyed and frustrated. I am receiving mail as I requested from a company named Bas Bleu. They are a legitimate company that sells "books and gifts for avid readers." In 2020, mail from the company started being immediately sent to Junk Mail - my confirmations of purchased items, and advertisements for new items. I have attempted to retrain and every day mark incoming email as NOT JUNK. All mail from the company goes to the Junk Folder. I also added both of the email addresses they use (for confirmations of purchased items and the advertisements for new items) and still everything goes to Junk. It is absolutely ridiculous and I want it fixed. Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance!

My desktop system crashed; had to have a new HD installed. I had 99% of my stuff backed up, so I lost almost nothing. Except for the Thunderbird address book. I have several Thunderbird backups. If I've looked this up correctly, the address book is a .bam file. I have several "profile" files. Is there any way to open a .bam files to see if it has my actual address book. And if there is a way to open the .bam file, is there a way to copy just this file into the current Thunderbird profile?

The profile folder for Tbird is 29.3 GB. I believe the large size is because copies of all of my gmail is being stored in the profile folder. I'm using IMAP.

Since using IMAP, email is stored on the gmail server, I don't want to keep old email in my Tbird profile folder. Is there a way to delete old email in Tbird while keeping all email on the gmail server?

The reason I want to do this is to reduce the size of my Tbird profile folder for smaller and faster backups of my Tbird profile folder.

Hello Dear volunteers, I hope you can help me with a problem that is turning into a nightmare for me. I'm working in Thunderbird 78.6 and I get a daily notification to upgrade to 78.6.1. I don't want to because I don't know if this upgrade won't cause problems as I've read with users who migrated from version 68 to 78. How do I remove these notifications? Is the upgrade to 78.6.1 safe? Thank you for your help? All the best, Daniel.

In the past Thunderbird would always sorted my mail by Date. The latest e-mail was always at the top, and the oldest one was always at the bottom. But now my in-box is not this way any more. Now the chronological order is gone from my mail box. How do I get it back again? Trying to use the menu in the upper right hand corner did not help me to find the answer to my question. Why? Because not enough information is there that will point me to the folder where this answer is located.

Suddenly a few weeks ago I tried to send a message from my Gmail account using Thunderbird and it asked me for my password. I entered it, and it failed, and Google sent me something about an "unsafe app" trying to log into my account. In trying to troubleshoot, I changed the mail server from smtp.googlemail.com to the currently specified by Google smtp.gmail.com, and I thought I was able to send an email (this was several weeks ago) but now here again I cannot.

I keep going through the troubleshooting but nothing works, I even tried setting the account up again from scratch in Thunderbird. What else can I do?

Thanks.

In TB I had a snafu I somehow caused myself with missing folders that I'd created. I got that fixed finally but in the process of doing so I downloaded TB again. Now I have two email accounts [myname@bellsouth.net, and myname@bellsouth.net_2; both with the same inbound and outbound servers, same everything].....except one account has "_2" at the end of it. The "_2" one is the first listed. The one without "_2" is further down, vertically. All folders I created are now in both accounts. I want to get back to just the one account I originally had. I "think" I can probably just remove the account with the "_2" at the end (Tools, Account Settings, Account Actions, Remove Account). In fact, the _2 one is highlighted and the Remove option is available. If I highlight the account without the _2 that option to Remove is grayed out. I just don't want another screw up on my part. Can someone please advise?

I'm working with Thunderbird's Send Options to figure out how to get my Thunderbird to send HTML to most people, but send plain text to the cranky folks who insist on text-only. It's 2020, and most people these days are fine with HTML email. I'd like the behavior to be that Tbird sends plain text when possible, and when I have formatting, it will silently go ahead and send HTML emails, except when one of the recipients in it is in one of the Plain Text domains or has been explicitly marked as preferring Plain Text in my address book.

I've enabled "Send messages as plain text if possible", and listed "@gnu.org" in my Plain Text Domains. I have not marked the preferred email type for any recipients in my Address Book.

If I change "When sending messages in HTML format...:" to "Ask me what to do", I'm now getting prompted about HTML formatting on every email I send. It seems that Tbird is seeing the "Prefers to receive messages formatted as: Unknown" in my contacts and treating that as "not known to receive HTML".

I would like to be able to set Thunderbird to assume that those Unknowns can receive HTML text, and only prompt me when there's a recipient who has been explicitly set to "Prefers: Plain Text" or is in the Plain Text Domains list.

As I have recently migrated my message folders to a new profile, but with my account being setup identical to what it was in the original profile, the From and To/Cc fields of the message header are abbreviated to just the name of sender and recipient(s). In previous versions of Thunderbird I have been accustomed to seeing the full format "Joe Doe <JD@someplace.com>" and without the solid blue start adjacent. Is there a convenient way to revert to the older format? The original profile and the new profile are viewed in TB 78.6.1.

Hello....I have a question out there from 1/16 saying that my Trash folder isn't working. on my gmail accoutn. It disappeared, so I created a Trash folder, but even though I have it 'pointing' to it, nothing goes in there.

I tried renaming it to 'Deletes', but that didn't work either.

I uninstalled and reinstalled TBird, but no luck.

Since Trash and Deletes are useless, I tried deleting them, but now the program won't let me. I suppose that I can drag and drop my trashed msgs into the Trash folder, but I am so used to the old way that I keep 'losing' deleted msgs. I like to keep them for 30 days just in case.

Btw, I also have a Verizon account set up and everything works perfectly with it.

Thank you

several things that I want to resolve.

1) My Thunderbird on my Mac has suddenly started showing every email received as 2.

2) Since rebuilding my Thunderbird with the help of a volunteer on here it is very twitchy and often deletes what I have just written in an email when I go to paste a link or, some text on the same line.

3) If I have already put an email into a folder and then highlight several emails on top of each other to send them to the same folder by right-clicking it seems to open an email or, if it goes to the right drop down list you often have to keep your finger on the right click and scroll to the folder in the list and just let go to send them there. However, it rarely lets you right click to see down menu and allow you to scroll to appropriate action and just left click to send emails to the selected folder:
