In a world where respondent's often draft messages about a new subject by lazily replying to messages on an old subject, does anyone find Threading helpful? Why is it now the default.

After View/Sort by/Unthreaded then propagating that by "apply current view to all folders." All folders do in fact sort by unthreaded. But if I create a new subfolder it defaults to sort by threaded. Please, is there anyway to entirely disable Threading?

Hello,

This morning when I opened Thunderbird it wouldn't accept my master/primary password. I've used the same one for years, so I know I've not forgotten it. Plus it worked yesterday!

Only thing that seems to have changed is the update to Thunderbird 91.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have spent the last two days trying to re-establish receiving/sending emails on my Apple MacBook Pro using Thunderbird without success. This problem developed suddenly about 3 or 4 days ago and only affects the MacBook, not any other device (I have an iMac and two iPads). I have gone through the instructions in Thunderbird's support pages and those in Mozilla with no success.

How do I fix this please? Would the easiest way be to simply delete the account xxxxxxx.gmail.com from Thunderbird on my MacBook and re-instate it by adding it back in?

All the setting for IMAP and SMTP are correct and the username/password is identical on all my devices.

Hi,

TB 91.5.0 on Windows 10 (with profile folder excluded from virus scan)

The latest update to seems to have resurrected a problem with saving copies of sent emails. Sending works fine, but copying of the sent email to the sent folder causes the send dialog to hang. Disabling the "Place a copy in:" option in account settings eliminates the problem. Using the "Other" option to place it in a local folder works *that is not part of a unified folder* works OK.

I have tried repairing folders and deleting the sent files inside "smart folders" in the profile, with no luck.

I am going around in circles here. I have searched and all the options I have found appear to be out of date or don't work. All I want to do is increase the size of the fonts I see in the left hand folders list and the folders message lists in the main panel. It's far too small for me and everything I have tried makes no difference. Please guide me.

Hi, I want to use Windows Task Scheduler to send command line emails via Thunderbird.

I have found only: thunderbird -compose "attachment='C:\first.txt,C:\second.txt'"

This works. But I also want to include email to, subject, text body and send.

I have tried options like Blat. Blat works but not with gmail.com as they block it. So with Thunderbird installed locally I may be able to work around the new gmail restrictions.

Many thanks.

I need to log SMTP traffic when I send a piece of mail from Thunderbird. What I see in my pop3.log.moz_log file is SMTP traffic when Thunderbird downloads mail from the server. But I do not see the SMTP traffic when I send a piece of mail to the outbound server. When I look at previous logs, I see SEND records in a log from 2020-03-02. Did something change in the SMTP logging? I am running Thunderbird 91.8.0 64-bit in Windows 10 Professional 21H2 64-bit.

Starting on June 1, when I tried to use Thunderbird, I have to log into my Gmail account. I enter my email address and password and the next screen states: "Sign in with Google", which I do. The last screen in the process is "Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account". I click on Allow and then the following message appears: "Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.google.com"

When I go back to Thunderbird and click on "Get Messages", I am put back into the Login loop, including 2- Step Verification..

I've used Troubleshoot Mode, I've cleared the startup cache, but neither has resolved the problem.

I can use account1 - [user name]@hotmail.com (download, read, delete, messages), but I no access to account4 - [user name]@gmail.com. I have no idea what account2 - Local Folders relates to.

On June 2 during a 2-1/2 hour unproductive session with a good computer technician I've been using for probably 10 years, Security Alerts were sent to account1 - [user name]@hotmail.com (as set up as a security step in Gmail): "2-Step Verification turned on", "App password created to sign in to your account", "App password used to sign in was removed", etc.

I have personally spent over 8 hours over the past 3 days exploring solutions suggested to other users with a similar problem but nothing has helped.

I have checked for stored passwords; there are none.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thank you very much for you help! I will save whatever is left of my sanity!

I have been using Thunderbird for many years. And, I've created multiple Folders (with multiple levels drilling down) which I place emails that I want to save. A couple of days ago, I left clicked holding an upper level folder, and dragged it to another folder. When I did that, Thunderbird showed a little circulating icon spinning until the process finished about a minute later. At the end of the process, a whole group of folders and emails disappeared.

When I explore the profile, under the folder "Mail", "pop.gmail.com", "_Companies.sbd", I can see folder names that correspond to the folders that disappeared. In those folders, I see files with the file extension "wdseml". Some folders don't have anything in them though.

My questions are:

(1) Can folders that disappeared be recovered where I can access them again in Thunderbird? And if so, how do I accomplish that? Is there an index file somewhere that can be audited and adjusted?

(2) If there is no easy way to recover those lost folders and emails, can I just remove the existing profile and replace it with a backed up profile I saved about one month ago. I would lose all the emails I had from that point to now. But, I would have all the original folders and emails up to that point.

Thank you for and help, direction or advice you can afford me, Chris

For the past couple of weeks Thunderbird has exhibeted some unwanted behavior. #2 I often shut down T'bird with multiple emails, each in their own tab. Recently, I seem to have accumulated multiple open email tabs. I have gone back through the open tabs and closed them (there have gotten to be quite a few, and it is a fair investment of time to get them all closed). I am not deleting them, just closing the tab each is on. Then I close Thunderbird. Next time I open Thunderbird, be it a few minutes, a few hours, or the next day or so, all the emails I closed are once again opened upon startup. This is making a huge number of tabs be open, and I am unable to make them stay closed. I am not deleting them, just closing the tab each is on. Why is this occuring (started a couple weeks ago, maybe around the same time Firefox auto-updated to v92 or 93, can't recall which.

My Win 10 XPS 8920 stopped working. I pulled hard drive and it is OK. I have a new Dell xps 8940 SE and put Tbird on it but am not able to find my files from the old surviving hd which I put into an external enclosure. It looks like somehow the old profile got overwritten by the new install or something.

I am on tbird 91 latest release on both the dead computer and new one.

I find a abook.mab.bak history.mab.bak and impab.mab.bak and impab.mab.bak files from Sep 2020 which have a good bit of data in them, but the computer died late Jan 2022. So I'd like to find if there is another profile somewhere.

Que 1: Is there a way to see data in the .bak files? Notepad ++ perhaps? Que 2: I may have moved file to a location for my Crashplan backups to be able to include. How might I find it on the drive?

Thanks for any advice, tips, ideas in advance. Much appreciated. Blessings, Kelly

Thunderbird’s connection to one of my gmail accounts failed today.

I removed the account and then tried to add it again to Thunderbird.

When logging in using a Google generated App password, I receive the following message:

"400. That’s an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."

OAuth2 is in place, and I’ve carried out all other recommended checks I can find on your website. My other Gmail accounts are working fine.

Please can you help? Many thanks.
