This often happens, and it stops your support from being any use to me. My current problem is, for instance, that I just want to change the default browser that is opened when I click a link in an email. Your solution page for this (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/make-firefox-your-default-browser) directs me to "preferences", "general" (no problem to find this) and then to a button "make default" that is just not there: my "general" tab window (see encl. screenshot) looks totally different from what you show. I work under Freshbook, an adaptation of Ubuntu.

I am trying to bring back my calendar after last Thunderbird update (63.0). The instructions I have found in Help indicate adding a string of characters by way of cut-paste into the ADVANCE (tab) -> Preferences -> Advanced. I do NOT see/have the ADVANCE option link. The display of Preferences on my screen is NOT like that shown in the Help instructions, but more like a text type near outline type of page with the Preference 'links' at top left and contents for each link displayed as 'text' when a link is selected. I would include a screen shot, but I don't see that ability within Thunderbird (only Firefox).

I am not a 'geek' when it comes to Linux and have - so far - not done anything in the Terminal. I do hope that whatever needs to be done to Thunderbird 63.0 so that I can - 1) have calendar back soon and 2) make it so that my Preferences will appear and be as fully option rich as it should be.

I haven't been able to install add-ons for Thunderbird for the last few weeks. I am running Thunderbird 45.3.0 on Ubuntu Mate 14.04. I did try the latest version of Thunderbird by downloading from the website, but I couldn't install add-ons on that either. I tried creating a new profile and that didn't help either. After I download an add-on, it is extracted in the staged folder under extensions in the profile folder. However, after I restart Thunderbird, the folder goes away. Here are the errors from the error console.

Recently I updated to Thunderbird 45.2 on Ubuntu Gnome. It is set up with two email accounts (5k and 10k emails), and I use unified folders. After the recent update to TB 45.2, whenever I select the unified Inbox folder (only the Inbox folder), Thunderbird starts to use 100% CPU for about a minute, before it responds normally again. Again, if I select the unified Sent folder (which contains about the same amount of emails) TB does not hang. It also does this in safe mode. I have tried compacting the Inbox folder, and I deleted global-messages-db.sqlite from my profile folder, nothing helped.

EDIT: Once the unified Inbox is loaded, the Quick Filter works as usual (i.e., fast), however clearing the quick filter text results in the one-minute-100%-CPU-hang. This does not happen if I do the same procedure while one of the Inboxes of the two email accounts selected.

Any suggestions?

Cheers Lasse

google asked me to upgrade security a while back and whatever I did, when I open Thunderbird now it asks for a password to log in to the server, which I do with my usual Google account password. After trying to open one email this morning, Thunderbird started refusing the password when entered, also refusing to accept a changed version, and refusing to open this email, even when it has been shifted to trash. So far I have gone into Settings and tried changing the security on the ingoing and outgoing servers as per other advice for this problem. Either Thunderbird refuses to accept the alternatives suggested, or it says they are not acceptable forms of security. This included getting rid of the any security or putting in "OAuth2" as an alternative to a password. Meantime I can't send emails. though I did receive one in on my gmail account. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I want to verify the digital signature of an email. The email sender has released a certificate .cer http://www.ros.ie/devcentre/email-certificate.html

I read help pages like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/signatures https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuring-certificates and tried to import the certificate in Preferences > Certificates > View certificates but I could not get the email verification working. When I open the email, I see an error icon (red cross over an envelope). The error message is "Digital Signature is not valid" (see attached).

It seems there is a problem with the Certificate Authority but I can not find one and I can not figure how to trust this certificate or how to relate it to email signature verification.

Thank you for reading.

I have Thunderbird constantly running. I use Lightning plugin for tasks.

The tasks view has a calendar. Two days can be marked there: today (blue) and the day to create task with (yellow). The first mark moves automatically. I expect the second mark to move to the next day when it starts. In other words (example): 22 May 19:00 - blue is on 22 May and yellow is on 22 May 23 May 10:00 - blue is on 23 May and yellow is on 22 May, but I want them both on 23 May.

How do I achieve this?

Yesterday Thunderbird upgraded itself to a version which will no longer run Lightning. For me, this is a crisis as I need access to my calendar. Please don't suggest I get a working copy of Lightning and install it, as apparently no such thing exists.

How do I roll-back to the previous working version? I am running Ubuntu 16.04. I have no idea what the last working version of Thunderbird was but my current (broken) version is 60.2.1.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Running Ubuntu 16.04... I had my Tbird (60.201 - 64 bit) server set to comcast.net... I had many filters, and several folders for the filtered mail. I changed server to gmail.com, and it will NOT recognize my folders or filters. I closed TB, copied the folders into the directory, re-started TB, and I saw the directories for a moment in the left panel, then they disappeared. TB deleted them from the main folder! It left the folders, but deleted the contents. So, I have my old INBOX with all my sub-folders, but TB cannot access them, says "Unknown Mailbox"...

I was NOT expecting this, obviously, and am not liking it at all... Halp! TIA DK

In order to manage important messages I adjusted several tags, among which was one default (#2 "Work") and the rest were created and added by myself to the tags list. After log out/log in there remained only the default list of tags and only tag "Work" was adjusted to messages. I added my custom tags to the list again and it immediately checked them (in the list) as adjusted to the message, though their labels didn't appear on the panel. So, how can I effectively and permanently make and use additional tags? Thanks.

A system crash in ubuntu Linux has broken the link between Thunderbird and subdirectories under $HOME/.thunderbird. I need to reconnect for four separate email addresses. The shell tool thunderbird offers a -P control option that is apparently supposed to point to a profile. Is that a file system address? if so which file. If not what do I need?

I am trying to add a new email account to my Thunderbird. I go to Create a new account -> email, click on "Skip this and use my existing email" which takes me to Mail Account Setup. I enter my name, my email address (jmcarron@wavecable.com) and password. Thunderbird then finds and returns a configuration. The configuration does not work as listed and I got suggested changes from my ISP. However all of the options return the same message: Configuration could not be verfied - is the username or password wrong? Both the username and password are correct but that is as far as I get.

I have been told to use the following (without success) In Thunderbird, goto menu "Edit", "Preferences", then select the "Advanced" section and click on "Config. Editor extensions.messagingmenu.enabled - however when I have followed the afore mentioned - I do not have / cannot see/find extenstions.messagingmenu.enabled - I have looked through the full list in Config. Editor and can see various extenstions. But nothing for messagingmenu.

I have also tried using the search box in "Config. Editor" but it does nothing! & when clicking on the cross on the right, that just closes the search box

Up to the previous Thunderbird version, I securely stored my passwords in the GNOME keyring using the add-on at https://github.com/swick/mozilla-gnome-keyring. My system is Xubuntu 16.04LTS.

Apparently, with the latest update, this add-on was silently removed due to incompatibility. I just realized by chance that my passwords are now stored unencrypted!

How can I store the passwords, or at least the master password, into the GNOME keyring with current versions of Thunderbird? Typing it manually at Thunderbird launch is a huge usability downgrade, compared to the perfectly working solution that was available before with the add-on.

I seem to understand that it is not at all the add-on developers fault that the add-on has not been made compatible, but the required API functionality is not provided by Mozilla. Is that correct?
