Hello,

When receiving a message, Thunderbird considers a line containing "--" to be a signature start mark and automatically removes all following lines (instead of quoting it) when editing the reply.

I want to disable this behavior. (The content of my (reply) message is my responsibility, I dislike automation on my authoring. ;-) )

So, how to configure this?

Regards.

I use Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and this operating system has an automatic Backup programme included. My Backup Plan copies my Home folder to a separate hard drive. I note that Thunderbird stores my emails in a Profile and that this is stored as a Hidden Folder in the Home Directory. As I am backing up Home, can I safely assume I am automatically also backing up my Thunderbird emails. Or do I have to manually back them up as mentioned in some help articles.

On my desktop system I pull mail from the server with POP and use mutt to read the messages. Thunderbird also pulls copies for those times I want to view the rich, html content of a message.

When I'm away from my desk, working on a laptop, I'd like to view the mail in TB without pulling a 3rd copy from the server. But my websearching says remote viewing is not possible. Then I tried something that seems to be working quite well but I'd like to hear if there are any 'gotchas' that I might encounter.

I used sshfs to mount my desktop's ~/.thunderbird on the laptop's ~/.thunderbird. When I started TB it came up with all my folders and I could read, search, and send mail with excellent performance.

Are there potential problems I've not yet encountered? BTW my uid and gid are the same on both systems. Also, while there is an instance of TB always running on the desktop, I would only be active on one system at a time.

Thanks, Jon

On my main machine (Linux) I am running Thunderbird with Lightning and have several CalDAV calendars connected. Furthermore there is also a CardDAV address book hooked up.

How can I transfer those CalDAV and CardDAV connections to a further machine?

I want to avoid setting it up manually by hand. Which files do I have to copy from ~/.thunderbird?

I guess something like:

- File storage.db
- File prefs.js (only the lines with "calendar")
- Directory calendar-data

But where is the connection for CardDAV stored?

After upgrading my Fedora to 28, and my Thunderbird to the latestest in the repos (60.3.1), I get very poor performance scrolling through the interface and opening mails. The entire interface is sluggish. Rebooting in safe mode makes no difference. With TOP running, I can peg one CPU core just by scrolling or navigating between folders.

I am trying to bring back my calendar after last Thunderbird update (63.0). The instructions I have found in Help indicate adding a string of characters by way of cut-paste into the ADVANCE (tab) -> Preferences -> Advanced. I do NOT see/have the ADVANCE option link. The display of Preferences on my screen is NOT like that shown in the Help instructions, but more like a text type near outline type of page with the Preference 'links' at top left and contents for each link displayed as 'text' when a link is selected. I would include a screen shot, but I don't see that ability within Thunderbird (only Firefox).

I am not a 'geek' when it comes to Linux and have - so far - not done anything in the Terminal. I do hope that whatever needs to be done to Thunderbird 63.0 so that I can - 1) have calendar back soon and 2) make it so that my Preferences will appear and be as fully option rich as it should be.

Hello, I haven't received any emails to thunderbird/icedove on my desktop for a few months. When attempting to retrieve emails the error message is "Could not connect to mail server imap.gmail.com; the connection was refused." When attempting to send it is "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connecting to the Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

I have tried disabling add-ons, running thunderbird in safe-mode, and reinstalling thunderbird with no success.

As in the title, I am running Debian Stretch. Also, thunderbird works fine on my phone and on a Windows PC.

Running Ubuntu 16.04... I had my Tbird (60.201 - 64 bit) server set to comcast.net... I had many filters, and several folders for the filtered mail. I changed server to gmail.com, and it will NOT recognize my folders or filters. I closed TB, copied the folders into the directory, re-started TB, and I saw the directories for a moment in the left panel, then they disappeared. TB deleted them from the main folder! It left the folders, but deleted the contents. So, I have my old INBOX with all my sub-folders, but TB cannot access them, says "Unknown Mailbox"...

I was NOT expecting this, obviously, and am not liking it at all... Halp! TIA DK

Hi, I really need Calendar function as part of my email client, I have loved Lightning and it has worked well for meeting requests, I used it for confirmation of photographic shoots. Getting the confirmation meat the the client had the same information as the appointment in my Calendar. Lightning is so important that I believe it should be the default calendar for TB and be built into every update. How long before I can use it again, please?

I have a shared hard drive which is accessible from Windows and Linux. My windows profile works perfectly fine, but on Linux no password is saved in my profiles. I have to manually type the passwords every time. When the box is ticked to save the password, Thunderbird fails logging into the profile. On Edit -> Preferences -> Security -> Saved Passwords there is nothing showing up either. I tried deleting "cert8.db" and "key3.db" suggested in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/es/questions/1172201 "key3.db" does not exist and deleting only "cert8.db" did not help either and there is no resource cleaner activated in the background as far as I know. I also tried removing the "thunderbird" package via pacman and later reinstalling it, but that did not help either. I maybe suspect an interference problem due to the hybrid use with Windows or maybe a permission problem on Manjaro Linux.

When I open it via a terminal it seems that Thunderbird cannot process the input strings: JavaScript error: jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/crypto-SDR.js, line 179: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Couldn't decrypt string JavaScript error: jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/crypto-SDR.js, line 84: NS_ERROR_ABORT: User canceled master password entry JavaScript error: jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/nsLoginManager.js, line 264: Error: Can't add a login with a null or empty password. JavaScript error: jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/msgOAuth2Module.js, line 130: NS_ERROR_XPC_JAVASCRIPT_ERROR_WITH_DETAILS: [JavaScript Error: "Can't add a login with a null or empty password." {file: "jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/nsLoginManager.js" line: 264}]'[JavaScript Error: "Can't add a login with a null or empty password." {file: "jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/nsLoginManager.js" line: 264}]' when calling method: [nsILoginManager::addLogin]

This is all I know. I hope it is helpful.
