I have used Thunderbird for years and I use it for work. For the last two days, it has started to go slow, and it will freeze and I have to close out of it. This JUST started, and this morning it is almost not functional.

I have looked everywhere I could find to see what I can do and I cannot find anything. I even tried re-installing it.

What can I do?

Hi All, Greetings!!! For the past two days, I have got the error like "Sending of the message failed. The message could not not be sent because the connection to Outgoing Server (SMTP) timed out". So I have restared our router (Broadband Modem), and then tried to send the mail, but the result is same. Then I have tried using my mobile network (using hotspot method), this time mail was sent sucessfully. Please help me to solve the issues...

Hi, my mailbox on the server is set to 5Gb. However the size of the IMAP directory of this mailbox on my hard disc is almost 22Gb. Sometimes I occured the situation that the mailbox's size on server lik 500Mb the IMAP catalogue took 80Gb of disk space. What might be the reason. Using 'cleaning' option does not help. Open thunderbird up and want to print an email. Most of the time the printer is the default. Once I print and then go to the next email to print, the default printer is gone and the only option is save to PDF. I can close thunderbird and reopen it and seems to alleviate the issue for a few times then back save to PDF only. Strange issue. I have reinstalled thunderbird a few times. All other programs on the pc I print from always use the defaut printer.

When trying to send an email, I received an error message saying that my incoming and outgoing email in settings must match. They do! Still cannot send an email. My ISP says the problem is on your end - something to do with the routing after thunderbird was updated. They said quite a few people are having the same issue. Please fix this!

Whenever I search a two-letter or two-character search it immediately says "no messages match your search".

For example: Searching of or "of" returns "no messages match your search"

Searching of of of or "of of" returns "no messages match your search"

Searching of the or "of the" returns results for "the" only.

Also ignores "." and ":" e.g. ignores "of."

Probably there are other things/combinations it ignores

Is there any way to correct this e.g. via config editor or via add-on or otherwise?

115.4.2 macOS 13.6.1 Using Menu>Edit>Find>Search Messages, it appears to be impossible to change the width of one result column without changing the width of all columns.

I want to widen the Date column so that I can see the full month name, the date, and the year. I click on the bar at the right of the Date field header and drag it to the right. All columns to the left are widened. The Date column barely widens. I click the side of the window and widen it. All columns widen (not a problem). Date widens a bit. I try to widen it using the bar at the right of the field. Same trouble. I widen the window to full width of the screen. Same trouble. The names of months with shorter names show in full, but not, for example, 'November'. Still can't see date on some; can't see year or time on any. I move the window to the left so all columns are off the screen except Date, Total, and Location. I widen Data. Correspondents appears on the screen (I guess that all columns are being widened). I widen the window all the way to the right of the screen. Now Recipient and Correspondents show, very wide, mostly blank (when there is only one name); there is a very wide column to the left, all blank, the column name invisible off the screen to the left. I can now see most Data data, but, for example, 'November 11, 2023, at 10:2'. I push the window further to the left off the screen. I now see Correspondents (mostly blank to the right of a single name (the one I searched for), Date, Total, and Location; I see the date and time in full. I can't see any column to the left of Correspondents; in particular, can't see Subject. I move the window all the way to the right edge of the screen again. Now I can see the "blank column," Recipient, and Correspondents (mostly blank space), Date with all dates and times showing in full, Total always blank), and Location (short mailbox names, so all show in full.

Why was this design chosen by the project? What was wrong with the ability to change the width of any column without affecting the others? Why was the decision made to not have a scroll bar on the bottom?

"Synchronise the most recent" setting (Settings -> Account settings -> Synchronisation and storage -> Synchronise the most recent)

I am having trouble with the synchronization setting. I have an email address with a large number of emails coming through the IMAP server.To avoid overloading the computer, I want to download only the emails from the last month to the computer. I found the 'Synchronize the most recent' setting under Settings -> Account settings -> Synchronization and storage. Thunderbird downloads all email from the server regardless of the number of days specified. Can anyone assist me with this issue?

Howdy, I have a number of folders under my POP email account folder. I moved a couple of them to the local folder using drag and drop. It seemed to be going OK but when I went to double check the content, all the messages where gone. I could not find them in trash nor were they in the "from" or "destination" folder. The only things that were saved were the folders and subfolders.

This seemed like a simple move operation but it has gone very wrong. Any ideas why?

I have backups. Can someone point me to the procedure to recover specific folders in email?

I have been trying to search for a solution but have not been successful in even finding this issue.

This is on a Win10 PC running 115.7.0 (64-bit) version of Tbird.

Since Thunderbird version 102, the shortcut for search and replace witch was suposed to be CTRL + H has been replace for CTRL + U (also the shortcut for underline ), in write message box. This made undeline via shortcut stop working as the search and replace function has some kind of priority over underline.

Acourding to documentation, the correct shortcut for Search an replace should be CTRL + H so this seams to be some kind of bug. also tested in Version 105 and got same error.

How can I get Thunderbird to store all emails on my local laptop, in addition to leaving them on the google gmail on the google server, instead of only storing headers and having to go back to gmail. If I want to open an email thunderbird will often take considerable time to download the email (again) in order for me to read it. This takes considerable time, and Thunderbird is busy waiting....so I can't do anything else in the meantime. Thanks, Rick

I have to manage a number of joint email addresses which are outlook.com addresses, so I have them all installed on Thunderbird.

Up until recently, it worked fine, although every few months Outlook.com would not allow the sync because of some security issue (wanting an alternative email address, wanting an alternative phone number, wanting me to confirm that the last sync was me). I would sign in to the email account on a browser, fix the issue, and then it would work again.

As of a few days ago, Thunderbird is showing the "Login to account XXX failed" and "Login to server outlook.office365.com with username XXX failed" for maybe a dozen of the addresses every time I open Thunderbird. If I login to the email on a browser, and force Thunderbird to "Retry" several times, it will sync the account - but the next day, the same issue arises with the same account. When I check the account activity, it shows successful automatic syncs.

Is there another setting I need to check or change to make Thunderbird work with Outlook.com addresses?

My email is not receiving and cannot send emails. A message shows up saying that the server has been disconnected. How can someone who has no computer expertise fix this problem. My business emails come to this email. Should we get rid of it completely? We Need Help Fast. I've been posting messages but nobody has responded yet. Hi Everyone,

I am trying to add a HTML signature to my emails and added it to the HTML box in account settings. I then go to my emails to check that the signature looks ok, so open an email and and my signature flashes up then disappears. I sent the email just to make sure and there is no signature. Does anyone one have any ideas why this might be happening. It worked fine at the start, but then this keeps happening.

After clicking the Thunderbird to enter my email the whole system goes through connecte3d to uepat624@gmail.com then up comes a message from Thunderbird indicating "you may have too many cached connections use IMAP Advanced Settings to reduce cached connections" Then things continue on for probably 5 to 10 mins. sending login info, looking up IMAP, checking mail server capabilities, looking for folders, sending login, opening folder box, downloading

Eventually email inbox and messages come up. I can send, receive and send mass mailings but when you read a message and want to go back to the inbox you have to scroll all the little boxes at the top of the screen back to the one that says "inbox".

I need someone to remove the cached connections. Pat Blackburn

First thanks for helping. I'm an old man with computer knowledge that ended with a computer science degree in 1984 which I haven't used since. So I have a general idea but it's forty years old... I'm using Thunderbird 115.7.0 (64-bit) on a 2021 Dell Alienware computer with the 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz processor and 64 GB of RAM using Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 OS Build 22621.3007... I also have McAfee LiveSafe Virus Protection software installed: Version 114.212 Release Name 16.0 R114 Affid 20327 Antivirus Build 1.1.2569.0 Content Creation Date 01/25/2024 Content Version 1665.0 Secure VPN Build 9 Version 1.14... Here's the problem... When I try to download my emails the computer goes into super duper slow motion. I also have a wired wifi connection that's the fastest Spectrum offers and almost nothing else shares it so it's usually very fast. I also get Thunderbird error messages (i should have screen shots sorry) about not being able to read something or other or write to some folders and perhaps needing permission. As an aside, I'm the only user of the computer so no permissions are ever needed. Also, this only happens when I first turn on the computer and there are a number of emails to download. Once I've downloaded the bulk email and I later check or it automatically checks, it will download the one or two messages slowly but without errors... Thanks again, I hope someone can help...
