I am running the latest Thunderbird 91.3 on my Ubuntu 21.10 installation. It works like a charm for all my gmail/live accounts and calendars. However in past three weeks, I had to change my time zones frequently - US Pacific, India, US Eastern Standard and Central European and each-time when I resumed my laptop, Ubuntu recognized the local timezone (upon local Wifi connection) and changed automatically. However Thunderbird does not have the same feature and I have to go into Settings and set time-zone manually. Each-time in trying to do so, I not-only found Thunderbird itself to become EXTREMELY sluggish (un-usable) with Ubuntu bringing up Force Stop dialog repeatedly. And furthermore it actually made entire Ubuntu (Chrome Browser and Libre Office apps - that I happened to be running at the same time) unusable and all locked up. I had to force restart Ubuntu and then somehow with extreme patience change the time zone setting in Thunderbird and then leave my laptop attended for quite a while (over an hour or so) and let Thunderbird go through syncing all my accounts (and Lightening sync all the calendars) before the laptop became usable again. Once I went through this process, everything works like a charm again.... Until I have to change time-zone again!

Am I doing something wrong? Is this is a known issue with Thunderbird 91.3? And lastly why an app is hanging the entire Operating System?

For historical reasons many businesses continue to use HTML tables for layout management even though that has been unnecessary for almost a quarter century and has been formally deprecated by W3C for 11 years. Frequently I receive e-mails that contain the entire history of a discussion thread, and each item in that thread is a separate table cell. Thunderbird requires that I individually select each table cell and then delete it using the X icon either on the left edge or the top edge. I cannot just select the text contained in a number of table cells and delete it, as I could if the information were organized as divs with layout managed by CSS.

I would just like to see a discussion of the most efficient way to deal with these legacy e-mails.

Windows 10 64bit Thunderbird 91.4 (64-bit) IPage (hosting) GoDaddy (domains) Norton Antivirus/firewall

Update for TB 91.3.02 was recently downloaded and installed. Seemed fine for a few days. Yesterday morning my most important email address started refusing to send email. Error message "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.ipage.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

I went through all IPage trouble shooting steps - verifying settings, etc.

Today I went through those again. When that did not work again, I uninstalled and reinstalled TB.

I noticed along the way that after the initial Update and again after the reinstall, TB had removed all of my specific Outgoing server entries (by account). I re-entered them all.

I removed several email accounts that no longer permit email client usage (att.com).

TB send function still not working consistently. Every so often the send function would work immediately after I changed the Outgoing server. It did not seem to matter which I selected. Sometimes it would work for a few minutes, sometimes just for one email.

I tried turning off Norton and turning back on. No visible effect. I tried removing and then re-adding TB to "trusted programs". No visible effect.

This problem then migrated to all of the other email accounts (except gmail accounts). Now NONE of them can send reliably other than gmail.

I can use the gmail server to send, but then TB changes the "From" field. I'd rather not do that as a work around. It will confuse too many people.

I checked for updates. Updated to TB 91.4. I noticed that ALL of

Currently, the "Send" function remains unreliable. For all accounts except gmail. If I go into Account Settings and change the settings, sometimes I can send an email right away, sometimes I cannot.

Anyone with any clue what has happened or how to correct the problem please contribute a suggestion.

Thank you in advance. JL

I am running Thunderbird Daily. I had a problem recently where a number of my mail folders got corrupted; mail messages were missing. So, what I did was to restore from a good backup before the corruption the folder and folder.msf files to a new directory. One corrupt folder is my Sent folder. I then copied the restored Sent and Sent.msf to my TB Local Folders directory as Sent-restored and sent-restored.msf (while TB was not running). I started TB and looked at the sent-restored folder. The messages are there, and they are intact. I then select ~2400 mail messages from Sent-restored and copy into Sent. When I look at the Sent directory, I see that all of these messages have been copied, and the directory seems OK - all the correct dates, recipients, and subjects. But ALL of the messages I copied now have the same text - the text of one (I believe) of the messages.

I have tried this twice, with the same results. What can I do to debug/correct this? Thanks.

Thunderbird updated overnight and now crashes on startup. Holding shift key gives safe mode start up options for a split second and then they disappear before I get a chance to select anything.

Clicking re start thunderbird sometimes opens the main email client for a split second before crashing. Running win10 in safe mode makes no difference. Would it be as simple as me just uninstalling the current version of thunderbird and reinstalling an older version? Will all my accounts and profiles be OK?

This is a pretty big problem for me as I have a ton of email going back years.

NOTE: I just downloaded and installed an earlier version via the link below and fixed the problem https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/91.3.1/win64/en-US/

Here is the crash detail.

Hello.

After a disk failure (an encrypted partition containing Thunderbird files was erroneously unmounted while the app was running) I see that Thunderbird restarted fine but marked all my Inbox (31000+ messages) as unread, while the really unread ones are about 200. I do have a fresh backup (a few hours). Do I need to restore the whole Thunderbird files or is it possible to fix the thing with a more specific intervention?

Thanks.

Using the currently-latest version of Thunderbird (91.3.2 (64-bit)), I need to send to an email address belonging to the French government in which the mailbox portion contains an E with an acute diacritical mark (é). When I get Send, it pops up a window telling me it's sending, then that window disappears. That's it. No error indication. Nothing added to the Sent folder. I tried a different SMTP server, same result. I have a catch-all email address, so I tried sending to myself (tést@...) and got the same results. I was able to use one of those SMTP servers, through their web portal, to successfully send to that address, and received it on the other email server, which proves that at least one of those SMTP servers doesn't mind accents in email addresses.

I read blogs on how to enable logging in Thunderbird, and after doing so, tried sending to that same address and a good address. The log file got created but nothing was logged (not even for the one that succeeded).

So, it appears that there's a bug in Thunderbird, where it should at least display an error message, although no error should have been returned from one of those SMTP servers. Functional logging would be nice as well.

I've been having increasing problems with Thunderbird not responding, and for that reason recently downloaded the latest version and re-installed it. Since doing so, my gmail history on Tbird has become chaotic. It shows a six-month gap between the reinstall 29Nov21 and the next most recent gmail message - 4May21. The history before that also shows many gaps and only a small percentage of the earlier messages. I can of course see the messages on gmail directly, but the gaps make it very unsatisfactory to use Thunderbird as my mail client as I have been accustomed to do, since checking for previous messages is completely unreliable. Displaying gmail messages received/sent since the reinstall seems to be fine. Can anyone throw any light on this and suggest a possible solution? There must be some glitch between my Tbird account and my gmail account. If I can't fix it I will have to abandon Thunderbird. My system is Win10 on a Dell Inspiron 15. Thanks.
