I have three email accounts linked into Thunderbird 78.7.1. Two of these work perfectly, including one Yahoo account, but new messages on my main Yahoo account will not update on Thunderbird, which displays the message: 'The DELE command did not succeed. Error marking a message as deleted. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: Too many requests.' I know that Thunderbird is signed into the Yahoo account and it does try to download new messages, but always fails. Any ideas how to get round this problem? I should add that I have over 22k messages in the inbox so would prefer not to delete everything and start again!

When checking or sending emails from Tbird the entire process is very slow eg Connecting to SMPT, Connecting to IMAP. I have checked my other devices in case the issue lies with my email providers and connection behaves at normal speeds. The issue therefore is within my Tbird which is at the latest release 78.7.1 (32-bit)

Well, I come here as I cannot find the answer anywhere! It may not even exist! I have TB 78.7.1 installed on my desktop and laptop. Both run Win 10 Pro. On my desktop I have 8 separate profiles, each with it's own icon pointing to a batch file for starting up TB with a specific profile. On my laptop I have 5 of those same profiles. Every profile has the server and account settings checked to check for and download new messages at startup. Every profile, except one, automatically downloads new messages when I start TB. Let's call the problem profile "XX". The XX profile will not download new messages on the desktop, but it does on the laptop. The mystifying factor is I copied the pref.js file from the laptop to the desktop. The profile opened up correctly except it did not automatically check for and download new messages. I copied the XX profile from the desktop to the laptop, and bingo, it automatically downloaded new messages! I used WinMerge to do a line by line comparison of the pref.js file from each computer. I could not find any differences that would affect the download on startup option.

Obviously, the failure to download messages upon startup is not related to the pref.js, which I believe means none of the settings available through the UI are the issue.

Where do I look now to find the cause of the problem?

I have been getting these "Â" symbols in the text of some emails for about a week now, I have set my Text Encoding to Unicode 9 (utf-8) on both incoming & outgoing, originally both set on Western (Windows-1252), I was told my emails had lots of strange symbols in them, so changed outgoing to Unicode (problem solved), then noticed incoming had the problem (only on some emails), changed outgoing to Unicode which lessened the amount of symbols but now left with the "Â" symbol appearing usually just before the £ sign. Just noticed I now have these also "…" appearing at the end of some lines. I have recently (new year) changed to 78.7.0 (64-bit) was on 32-bit, never had problem before that. should I go back to 32-bit or have I got a setting wrong? Thanks Dave

I have created a new Gmail account which I can access via the web, but when I ask Tbird (52.9.1 (32-bit) to collect mail from the new account, pop.gmail.com responds "Username & password not accepted". This new account name has this format: xx.xxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxx@gmail.com and I am wondering if the two periods in the name may have some bearing on my problem. I have created an 16-letter app password and replaced my original password, but that did not make any difference. Tbird tries to send the username & password, but the pop.gmail.com server still won't accept them. All my other Tbird accounts work fine with their respective app passwords. Hoping someone can help me find a solution to this strange occurence. Thanks for helping!

I've a domain with a few emails, once I start my PC I'm able to send/receive emails. If PC get idle for some time then I can't connect to server or send emails. I get below error "Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.xxxxxxxxx.com is unknown. The server may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

If I restart my PC it gets connected again and I can send/receive emails, but once again if it goes idle I start getting same errors. Sometimes I do not restart and keep working on my PC just to see popups about incoming emails (start receiving/sending again )

Where can I look what's happening or why?

Neither the default URL (or any other URL) appear in the start page when I launch Thunderbird; it remains blank. Also, the contents of an email message do not appear in the Message Pane when selected; it remains blank. If I try to open an email message in a new tab, the new tab remains blank. I can only open to read an email message in a new window.

I am running Thunderbird 78.3.1 (64-bit) on Mac, Catalina 10.15.7. Any advice how to fix this?

This is to help my neighbor, so all info is second hand. Thunderbird email client accessed by Firefox. Archived email folders for 2016 and 2018 have disappeared. I've read that files indexing can get confused and that would be my first guess. Since I don't have the computer in front of me ...yet, any action will be at a later time.

All suggestions are welcome.

I have been using Thunderbird as my desktop email client for years. About a week ago, I started getting this email error message:

"Sending of password for user kmendall@att.net did not succeed. Mail server pop.att.yahoo.com responded: Server error - Please try again later."

When I searched the community database, it suggested that I had to comply with the oauth code ATT started using a while back. Well, I did that when the issue first arose several years ago and have never had any problems. Until now.

I did nothing with Thunderbird or any of my email accounts that might have caused the error message to suddenly appear. It's possible that there was an auto-update that may have done something. The other 6 email accounts that I have linked to my Thunderbird account all still work (but they are not @att.net domain emails). It's just the "kmendall@att.net" address that gets the error message. The email account still works as I can access it via webmail.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am using a 2 year old Dell PC desktop running Windows 10.

Thunderbird was working. Then I went to access att yahoo mail to check spam and used Firefox via my normal link & got an error message. Tried many times & got locked out. Reset password & now can access the server.

But now Thunderbird will not access email, receiving or sending, for that one profile, & I did change the password. My other Thunderbird profiles still work.

When trying to receive new email, TB gives an error message that password did not succeed and Mail server pop.att.yahoo responded: Server error.

If sending an email TB just sits there & says “Connected to outbound,att.net”.

What is preventing that one profile from accessing the att server & how do I fix it?

I have recently done an "automated" update from Thunderbird v68.? to v68.12 and I'm seeing the following change.

Before this upgrade when I clicked on any link on an email from a Twitter user either the original message/video showed up and/or a link was opened in a new Firefox tab and I could watch the video. Now I get the following error and I can't resolve it. I can still open twitter in Firefox, but I am not allowed to copy or access the link in the Thunderbird Twitter message to run it in Firefox.

The error message displays a portion of the link being attempted and adds a text message "...This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page."

Other URL links in my email messages fire up automatically in Firefox when I click on them as before...

I am running Thunderbird 78.7.0 (32-bit). I use filters extensively. At month-end I use filters to clean up my folders. Sometime after running clean-up in February, Thunderbird decided to download EVERYTHING in my gmail inbox - apparently over 32,000 emails. From what I can see at this point - it still has over 28,000 to go - many are empty. I'm sure all are duplicates of emails that have long been deleted! Any idea what to do to get it to stop? I'm pretty sure what is going on is a total waste!

After the update to 68.2.2, I started getting a crash when I start Thunderbird. I updated to 68.3.0 and didn't get a crash. Then, when I restarted Thunderbird, it crashed. I did a reinstall - then didn't get a crash. But everytime I terminated Thunderbird, I had to do a reinstall - and Thunderbird would start up okay. Then, more recently, even a reinstall would cause a crash. SAFE mode crashes. I even uninstalled and reinstalled and got a crash. I must comment - this is all using my original profile. A clean install without setting up any accounts works fine, so somehow it's connected to my profile. I have been limping along without Thunderbird for a few weeks (because I've been too busy to even complain) but now need to fix this problem. I can't get to any of my old emails stored in Thunderbird. This will happen anytime .. cold boot, restart, hibernation start .. anything. Multiple crash reports have been sent but no-one has contacted me. What suggestions does anyone have? I am running on Windows 10 with BitDefender security software.

Windows 10 64bit OS. Fresh copy of 68.3.0 will run at the end of the installer process. When I run it subsequently (directly from the exe, from the shortcut, from the profile manager, whatever) it crashes during startup. Startup crash happens in safe mode, in normal, with or without a profile (I've done a scratch install to a new location, with same results). Two weeks ago it was working fine, so I suspect a version change killed me. By using profile renaming, I can (insert my old profile, then) read and check my email during that one-time launch at the end of the installer, and that's it.

I've had issues with the 68.2 release. Thunderbid does not open, I just get crash reporter. With versions 68.0 and 68.1, if I uninstalled it and reinstalled, Thunderbird would open. But with version 68.2, all I get is Crash Reporter. I updated Thunderbird on my laptop too and I'm having the same issue. So I now have no access to my emails. Something is terribly wrong.

Everytime I try to start Thunderbird I get a window saying "Thunderbird had a problem and crashed". I've tried doing a clean install several times, removing my profiles and installation folder completely to no avail. Tried starting it in safe mode with the same result.

I reset my Hotmail password - yesterday. Now, I am unable to receive any Hotmail emails on my Windows PC's - I get an error I have reset the password on my two android devices and they work OK I have tried POP3 and IMAP and both error My main email works - just not Hotmail I noticed that the server settings have changed to incoming OUTLOOK.OFFICE365.COM outgoing SMTP.OFFICE365.COM and, since I don't have office365 - wonder IS THIS THE PROBLEM ? I am using Thunderbird 78.3.3 (32-bit) as my email client and my profile file is 30GB, is this too big ? Is there a sensible limit on size ? can I place some emails off my profile that I may want to access in the future but are not needed on a day to day basis ? how do i do this. Help please. Thanks. I don't understand, am I doing something wrong?
