Thunderbird extremely slow downloading and deleting

Anytime I go to download it loads one message at a time and it takes 5 to 10 seconds. Firefox works fine. I ran Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Bitdefender. No spyware or viruses. It also takes forever to delete the messages. This just started 2 days ago. I re-downloaded Thunderbird and re-installed it. Application Basics

Hello. I am using 31.3.0. and it is crashing in either safe mode or normal mode under any of these conditions: -- within 4 minutes -- after sending, -- opening add-on manager -- using help/restart with add-ons removed. I've reinstalled twice. Up-to-date Yosemite. Thus, I am unable to install viewabout and am unable to disable add-ons before crashing. I don't remember installing add-ons, but they seem to be a common source of crashes, so perhaps I did. But... can't look. May I please bother someone for a suggestion? Thank you for any help!

I opened Thunderbird and there were no accounts and the T-bird add account window was open with my name in the user block and wanted my email address and password. I created a new account and it download my emails but all my old emails in my inbox were gone along with all of my local folders and the emails in them. How can I get them back and what happen?

It happens as long as I remember.
