Hello, I've noticed Thunderbird lags a bit when receiving incoming emails. The notification message on the right hand side of the screen pops up but it's blank. Clicking on the icon to bring the program to the front lags considerably for 3-4 seconds.

I am using Arch Linux and Windows 10 (1909) and Thunderbird 68.3.0 on both. I had Windows installed first and created the Thunderbird profile on its NTFS partition. From Arch Linux, I then symlinked from .thunderbird and .cache/thunderbird to the corresponding AppData directories on Windows.
This setup seemed to work fine from Arch Linux, but when I boot back into Windows, I sometimes get an error saying, "You have launched an older version of Thunderbird: A newer version of Thunderbird may have made changes to your profile which are no longer compatible with this older version..." This isn't helpful as I have made sure to always use the same version of Thunderbird in both OSes.
It would be very convenient if I didn't have to make the profile all over again. Do you have any suggestions for how I could debug what is actually causing this error to occur so I can fix it? Thank you.

Since the upgrade to 68.3, my wife can no longer open attachments of Word documents (docx) whose filename contains blank spaces (e.g. File name.docx). The error message popups indicate that Word is trying to open a different document with each word in the filename. So, in the above case it tries to open a document named File.docx, fails, and the another document named name.docx and also fails. Oddly, this is limited to Word files. Similarly named PDFs and PowerPoint files work fine.
The temporary files created when I attempt to open the offending attachments are saved with the proper folder. I can find them in the Tools->Saved Files, and the full file names appear. Attempting to open them through Thunderbird results in the same error. However, selecting the Open Containing Folder, and then double-clicking them from there (taking Thunderbird out of the loop) works as it should.
I've tried safe mode, but that did not fix the problem. She can forward the email to me, and I can open it on my laptop.....using version 68.3. If I replace the spaces with underscores and ship the file back to her, it opens without incident. The settings on our installations are the same, both using Windows 10, both with Word 2016.
I've tried repairing the folder (Inbox), compacting, and even deleting the msf file so it could be rebuilt, but the problem persists.
In scanning the database, I found an old problem that is similar: content-disposition filename cut (truncated) at space. That problem was resolved 16 years ago. As best as I can tell, that problem involved saving the file, whereas in this case the temporary files are being saved correctly, but Word is being told to open a file with only the portion of the name until the space, and then additional files between the spaces.
I tried reinstalling 68.3, but got the same results. I rolled her back to 68.2.2 and restoring a profile from the day before the upgrade, and everything works as it should.
There is nothing peculiar about her configuration. The only thing not by default is her email data (not the profile) is stored in a separate partition on her SSD, a D partition devoted to data storage only.
Disabling the internet security did not help. Since the email data was unchanged in the restore process, the problem does not lie in the data file.
Any suggestions?
Configuration details are available, if needed.

I have Thunderbird 60.9.1 and would like to update to the latest 68.3. I can download that version, but I would much rather have it do the Thunderbird system. One problem. Everytime I try to run the update it fails, in multiple venues. I have tried changing the password on the AT&T SBCGlobal server system and that did not work. I also updated the security update for this version of Mac OS (which is 10.14.6) Nothing seems to work. I have posted the error message, I don't know what to do .

Thunderbird keeps asking me to log in to a Google Calendar account, which we don't want or need. The user (not me, fwiw) stopped using T-Bird to check gmail accounts and removed all of those accounts, there was still a calendar subscription from the gmail account that we're getting prompts for, but I disabled that and then this morning there was another prompt to log in to the google account.
I've read a ton of questions including these:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1130194 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/988520
And they all assume that the user wants a Google connection. There's no way to say "no, we don't want a google connection at all"

I'm using TB 60.9.1 on a Mac running Catalina 10.15.1
TB is EXTREMELY slow when I move an email message from inbox or outbox to a local folder, and extremely slow when I am reading emails and jump from one email in the folder to another.
I have a lot of emails stored in local folders. I use POP mail and store all my email on my computer. I need to keep records of all email for work purposes. I don't know the total amount of email that TB is storing for me, but it is a record of all my work-related email for about the past 10 years.
Is it possible that the large volume of email that TB is holding is the cause of TB slowing down?
Every Sunday I review all emails that I sent and received in the preceding week, and file them away in local folders. (Basically, I clean up my inbox and outbox.) Each time I move an email from inbox/outbox to a local folder, I have to wait 15-30 seconds (spinning beach ball) before TB displays the next message in the inbox/outbox.
Any ideas for why TB has become so slow? And any suggestions for how to fix this?

Every so often incoming emails go straight to the deleted folder, rather than the inbox. I can't see any pattern to this. They are all from people who have successfully sent me emails before. They don't get marked as junk, just automatically moved to the deleted folder without stopping in the inbox.
I asked this question five years ago and it was never answered, although a couple of people said they had the same problem. It is still happening, and I often lose important mail unless I remember to check the deleted folder.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? As I said, it is random and affects senders from whom I sometimes receive mail with no problem.
Many thanks.

My webhost changed server settings. the server name and port changed.
I have a few different accounts in my Thunderbird application. One of them, I changed the server settings and it's working fine. Another one, I changed the server but it is not connecting.
this is IMAP setup
When i attempt to refresh my mail, the status bar at the bottom indicates that it is attempting to connect to the correct (new) server. But it stalls and after a minute or two I get a popup that says the server timed out. the weird thing is, in the error message it shows the OLD server name. So it looks like it is still trying to connect to the old server, even though I've looked at all the settings 10 times and it is set to the new server name and port for both the incoming and outgoing (SMTP).
the person at the webhost tech help says sometimes it keeps using the old setting and there is no way around it other than to delete the account in the email client and start over. he insists that since it is IMAP, no data will be lost. but i would rather not do that.
i tried rebooting thunderbird several times and I also rebooted my machine.
does anyone have a suggestion? why is it still checking the old server?
thanks, gary in vermont

I have moved a profile from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Moved the "Thunderbird" folder from AppData/Roaming on 7 to AppData/ Roaming on Win 10. The profile and all configuration comes up. BUT!! My inbox in an account (not the Local Folders) is empty. Other folders don't show all the messages. Oddly enough, Trash does. I even deleted the *.msf files (while Thunderbird was not running) and still no messages show up. Tried Repair Folder. No help.
I've looked at the files in a text editor. All messages are there.
Any tips would be fantastic!
Thanks!

Whenever I was composing an email, Thunderbird would periodically save it as a draft. Now, however, (since the last update, I believe), the "Copying message to Drafts folder..." at the bottom of the 'compose' window just keeps running for the whole time the window is open. If I pull down "Save Message" I get an error message that says: "Your draft message was not copied to your drafts folder (Drafts) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the draft locally to Local Folders/Drafts-kharrisma@gmail.com." The only way at present that I can save an incomplete message is to save it as an html file in the 'Documents" folder of my hard drive.
Is there a way to clear this problem up, some setting that was altered with the update that I'm just not able to find? I've been through ALL of the option screens, and haven't found a thing that seems relevant to this issue.
I realize I could probably (if I could find it...) configure T-Bird to just automatically save all drafts to my hard drive, but I've had drive crashes and data loss before, and I'd just as soon have it stored remotely (or both locally AND remotely (if that's even possible) so things don't get lost. Again.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated!
