After many unsuccessful attempts to repair/replace a corrupted inbox in version 68, I uninstalled that version and installed the latest version 78. I was warned to expect to lose access to old emails (I backed them up), but to my happy surprise, they were still available. However, to my unhappy surprise, the new inbox almost immediately began to behave like the old one, substituting some messages for other ones.

I'm assuming that my previous uninstall left a corrupted inbox behind, which the new installation picked up. How can I do a *clean* install so that old problems don't once again migrate to the new installation?
    I'm running Windows 8.1

TB automatically updated to 78.4 today, and ever since the display has been glitchy, with weird hall of mirrors effects and big green fields of nothingness all over the place. Clearly something is not right. I am running Mac OS El Capitan (whatever that means). I have been using TB for years and years and never had the slightest problem. I have many important saved folders and what not. I'd hate to lose anything. But it is now almost impossible to navigate, the display is so strange and disorienting. What could be the solution?

Thank you!

Today I moved from Windows 10 to Ubuntu 20.04, in part on the back of assurance got from reading this recentish thread on saving old mail data when on Windows and later re-activating it once Ubuntu was installed:

https://superuser.com/questions/1550634/moving-thunderbird-email-setup-from-win10-to-linux-ubuntu

Trouble is, I cannot ¨see" any sign of the old mail folders and mail accounts after following the above procedure. Of course, I can re-create the existing mail accounts and start with empty mailboxes - but I don want to lose all my emails since 2006.

I tried searching through your forums archives for advice on this migration - which must be common with developers who need a Linux distro on their work machine - but found nothing so far.

Any suggestions welcome.

After upgrading to version 78, I've lost the most important addon which is import/export toolsNG, https://github.com/thundernest/import-export-tools-ng Instead of making crap new icons which NOBODY wants to "improve" the look, you better get this one started. And what right you have to change my database so I can't downgrade to version 68 ? This is outrageous. I've been using thunderbird since it came out, and this is the first and only major problem. I hope you are proud.

In previous versions of Thunderbird, I used to type the Mailing List name in the To, CC or BCC fields, and it would appear in the format: Mailing List <'Mailing List'>, and then when I sent the email Thunderbird would insert all the email addresses from the mailing list and send the email. In Thunderbird 78.4.0 it appears in the format Mailing List <Mailing List> (i.e. without the single quote marks) and sending the email gives the error message:

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.3 The recipient address <Mailing List> is not a valid RFC-5321 553 5.1.3 address. z15sm5942088wmk.4 - gsmtp. Please check the message recipient "Mailing List" and try again.

The same error occurs if I open the Contacts Sidebar and select the Mailing List from there. It does appear to work correctly if I select the Mailing List in the Address Book, and then click Write to start a new email, but that cannot be used for forwarding an email (which I often need to do).

Is this a known bug, and is there a workaround?

On my old imac I always was able to search old trash & sent emails stored on the imac. I could also do the same on my iphone with the same mail account.

Just got a new imac & I setup that mail account & Thunderbird on the new Imac & now seems like all old sent & trash is gone from both the new & old imac... but the iphone still seems to have all the old emails.

How can I get back those old emails on the new imac?

Thanks

Hi Guys

I recently decided to change from imap to pop3 for a range of reasons. (slow loading time for attachments I look at frequently, and to be able to access stuff if offline are 2 reasons) Currently have 2 versions of the account in my thunderbird. A functional Imap and a semi complete download of the account as pop3.

Problem is its only downloaded my inbox, and its not updating any other folders.

I did see this post http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=1688365 Which was a bit old and not so helpful (Although google ranked it top of search!!)

And this post which has a very kludge solution. In my case this would result in hours of manual sorting and downloading and re-sorting every day. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1074000

The problem is I still use the web interface and phone app. I need thunderbird to download mail from all folders, even if I didn't use thunderbird to open, send, reply, sort, draft, etc etc.

Perhaps pop3 is not the way to go?

Is there another way I can get imap like experience, but actually keep an up to date copy on my local drives?

Its taking up too much of my time and data to re-download the same things multiple times with my current imap setup. Every single time I switch to another email. I have to wait for it to download again.

After a restart of my computer, Thunderbird had migrated to release 78. I don't like the new look and I want to return to the nicely coloured folders. I attach the old and new look images. Why did they change all colours to B/W? Is this optional and how can I return to my own flavour?

I see there is an option to customize folders. Does that mean that I can go back, or that I need to colour them myself one by one?

Please - can anyone tell how to backup only email account configuration: mail server settings (server address, port, protocol, etc), usernames, passwords, email account aliases, RSS accounts, etc. Would be good to include here Address Book but sometimes it would be good to be able to backup Address Book separately. Hopefully all email accounts would be possible to backup regardless of authentication type. I mean also email accounts using OAuth2 authentication. Also would be good to be able backup Thunderbird own settings separately. Sometimes is only email account settings important to backup, sometimes also Thunderbird settings, e.g. extensions separately. As usually there are IMAP-protocol used then emails are not needed to backup what most such extensions are offering like ImportExportTools NG. As you can read from https://support.mozilla.org/et/questions/1281340 - backuping whole profile (including emails) requires enormous amount of storage space. Sometimes is needed certainly also email backup itself. It would be very much appreciated if there could be an option to select manually every component that is included into backup and what is not. I've tried to find these files manually what to copy to backup these settings mentioned above but haven't succeeded to figure out which file is connected to which part of settings. Certainly I prefer free and open-source solutions. Certainly also restoring backupped settings flawlessly.

Using currently 64-bit Thunderbird 68.11 under GNU/Linux, manually downloaded as user from Thunderbird homepage. Usually tutorials handle all data (including emails) that are not needed and do not allow to distinguish only required part of data: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer https://www.auralsolutions.com/2012/12/how-to-backup-thunderbird-data-emails-and-contacts/ https://github.com/thundernest/import-export-tools-ng https://www.iperiusbackup.net/en/backup-thunderbird-and-restore-email-and-account/ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder

Hello! I added two gmail accounts to thunderbird (let's call them gmail A and gmail B), with the aim of copying all emails from one account into the other. However, I discovered I really wanted to copy gmail A over to gmail C instead. I want to remove gmail B from thunderbird, but that is my primary account. I am worried that if I remove an account, it will delete all content in my actual gmail account, which I don't want at all. Does removing an gmail account from thunderbird delete the content in gmail, or just de-link the account, which is all I want?

I just had to get a new laptop as the old one died. I have successfully installed Thunderbird, entered my email address and password, and have downloaded all the waiting emails. When I try to reply to an email, I get an error message "Login to server smtp.madasafish.com with username anniedunn failed." I've tied to sort it by following advice in mozilla support, and also in my mail provider Plusnet support, but I can't get it to work. Luckily I can access my mail via webmail and reply using this facility. Can anyone help me resolve this problem?
