Thunderbird working fine up until a day or two ago. Since then, refusing to login to the Google SMTP server, to send email. Receiving (POP) working fine. Have tried recreating the App password, continually getting either server timeout, or Username/Password error. Anyone else? Any thoughts? Thanks.

My Win 10 Pro laptop failed, power supply, probably. I took the drive out of it and want to use the profile from it on my new Win 10 Pro laptop. I have installed TB several times, then uninstalled and tried to clear all evidence of it on the new machine, because it wasn't showing my old stuff.

I finally used the process in this article - https://www.groovypost.com/howto/recover-restore-thunderbird-email-profile-backup/ - that seems to match others I found.

I then copied Thunderbird directory from the old drive to AppData in my new machine. Then I started TB with Profile Manager and created a profile using that AppData/Roaming directory.

When I then start TB, I see a momentary count of messages that looks right. But that goes away, and it starts downloading from my email provider - CenturyLink.

Ultimately, the new messages are in local folder in C:/ProgramData, not the roaming directory in %ALLDATA%.

So I tried changing the local directory in Settings/Server Settings for the account and get this message -

The Local Directory path "C:\Users\Vern\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\z4922dk3.default-release" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory.

I've not seen anything to help with this situation, so will appreciate greatly finding a way to recover things.

New Mail Not Downloading After Profile Migration On Mac

Hi, all. I just migrated my Thunderbird profile from a 2012 MacBook Pro running Mojave (10.14.6) to a new iMac running Big Sur (11.4). Both systems use Thunderbird 78.11.0. I followed the steps from the support page, and all of the email and settings seem to have loaded into the iMac.

However, when I try to download new email, the status in the bottom-left corner just hangs on "Connected to <mail server>" without pulling down any mail. A quick look at the account settings shows everything to be the same as it is on the MacBook Pro, which still downloads new mail without issue.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'd be grateful for any direction. Thanks in advance for your time.

Using this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I moved profiles from old to new computer. When I restart on the new computer, it is just starting over, doesn't know anything from my old computer's thunderbird.

Both windows 10. New computer says 78.11.0 (64 bit) Old computer says 78.11.0 (32 bit) Note both computers are 64 bit.

Top left on old computer is old style "File Edit View Go Message ..." Underneath that are tabs like inbox and troubleshooting information"

Top left on new computer is a tab saying home, the tab body says welcome to thunderbird.

So I gather there is incompatibility of the data between 32 and 64 bit? Is there a place to download the 32 bit?

Am I confused what the real issue is?

I have read everything I can about the process of getting TB from an old computer to a new one but this is more difficult than I imagined. BOTH computers are running version 78.11.0 I know how to get to the profile folder on both machines but this is where I am running into problems. On the old Windows 8 computer when I open the profile folder there is only one file however when I open the profile folder on the Windows 10 computer there are two files, one is default and the other is xxxxxxx.default-release.

I have replaced the default folder on the new machine with the default file from the old computer but that did NOT bring any of my old mail or address books over to the new machine. What the heck am I doing wrong, I have been working on this for about ten hours over three days without success! HELP PLEASE, I know there must be a way to do it.

Hi,

How can I add a spam folder to all my Thunderbird accounts that will download all the emails that got thrown in the spam / junk folder by the provider? For example, I have regularly that I miss emails that normally aren't marked as spam (due to trusted senders) but nevertheless end up in a spam folder on, for example a hotmail account. The problem is, now I can only see those mails when I log into that account on the site itself, not through Thunderbird. Is it possible at all to download those the same way as the inbox mails are being downloaded into TB? Sometimes I miss some mails when they end up in the spam folder because they are automatically deleted within 10 days or so.

Thanks :), Dan

I use Thunderbird with multiple profiles for several different email addresses. I want to move the data from the default location (C:/users/xxx/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/...) to another drive. I was able to do this by copying the Thunderbird folder to the new location, and redirecting the program to look in the new location. This worked for a single email address, but hasn't brought up the other addresses. How do I recover those? Do I need to manually recreate the profiles inside Thunderbird?

Hello at Mozilla,

I tried the archives first and have the exact set up but the same error like others have had keeps coming up, server error, password failed, try again later, etc, yet all settings are correct. I closed my online email program, restarted TB, same error.

I also used SM for a long time, like over a decade I think. Every few years when I change out my laptop, I go through this and it takes days to re set up my email to a client.

I really like having my emails in my computer to go through on/offline. It doesn't appear SM will be supported anymore so on to TB, which looks very similar.

Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!! ~Kirch

Hello. I have recently been experiencing lots of problems with Thunderbird E-mails. Often I am unable to send any mails at all. Although the in-box seems to work OK. Checked with my ISP yesterday ( Talk Talk ) and was advised they no longer support Tiscali E-mails ! However, that later turned out to be incorrect. Apparently they still support Tiscali - but only for existing telephone and broadband customers like me. However, I am advised to change my account settings from POP 3 to IMAP. ( not quite sure why ! )

If I am to change the settings to IMAP could someone please let me have some simpole and easy-to-follow steps for an " oldie " like me so I don't make any mistakes. Also, please could you confirm that if I make the switch I will still be able to keep my existing tiscali.co.uk E-mail domain name ? I want to retain that E-mail address in any event. Is that possible ?

Finally, I would want to copy a couple of hundred incoming and out-going E-mails to the IMAP account, or, if not possible, then I would need to make a back-up copy of two or three hundred incoming and out-going E-mails which are already on Thunderbird but I don't know how to go about this. Could someone please send me some easy-to-follow instructions,

I have to say that all of this seems very complicated just to change from POP 3 to IMAP in order to keep Talk Talk happy ! I don't use multiple accounts and would prefer to stick with POP 3. Help and advice please on what to do.

Many thanks. SG.

I have added various gmail accounts to Thunderbird with no trouble at all. But when I tried to add my outlook account with the IMAP protocol it said:

"Configuration could not be verified. If your username and password are correct, it is likely the the server administrator has disabled the selected configuration for your account. Try selecting another protocol."

It does work if I add it as an exchange account and all my emails appear correctly, but everytime I open up the thunderbird app, a message appears saying:

"Login to server outlook.office365.com with username [anonymous]@outlook.com failed". So i just close the message and the app seems to work normally...

Furthermore, if the exchange account is the only one that does not offer any email encryption options...

I will be very grateful to anyone who knows how to fix any of these problems :)

Hi, I downloaded and installed the latest version of T Bird. I started downloading and backing up my emails. Well, I forgot that it saves them on the C drive I think. Anyway, I wanted to store them somewhere else 'cause I have a lot of emails. So, I looked online how to change that, deleted the accounts and the profiles.

Couldn't open thunderbird again cause it said it couldn't find the profiles so I uninstalled it and installed it and it did the same thing.

Even downloaded it again and installed it but still the same thing. " When you start from scratch, will it not create the profile/s?

Thanks

I have two accounts on my Thunderbird mail client. On one of them I changed my email hosting from GoDaddy to Gmail. I hate Gmail's mail client interface so I want to keep everything on Thunderbird. I entered the new Gmail server info but the account cannot access the Gmail server. It's probably a password issue, but it never asked me for the new Gmail server password. The Gmail servers do not show up on the list of servers on the Passwords page, so I can't change or add any passwords. I don't want to set up another new account because I need to keep all my previous mails, settings, etc. in place.

So how do I just change the servers (in and out) on an existing Thunderbird mail account? TIA.

Thunderbird

On my old PC I have version 78.10.2 (64 bits) and I try to install it on a new pc and migrate the content using the method you recommend (help - troubleshooting information - profile folder - mounted 3 times - copy etc. in reverse order via usb key....) The result is minimal: only the latest e-mails appear (ten days for one address). Neither the series of classified mails, nor the addresses of the correspondents, .... What should I do? Thank you for the answer.
