I have read everything I can about the process of getting TB from an old computer to a new one but this is more difficult than I imagined. BOTH computers are running version 78.11.0 I know how to get to the profile folder on both machines but this is where I am running into problems. On the old Windows 8 computer when I open the profile folder there is only one file however when I open the profile folder on the Windows 10 computer there are two files, one is default and the other is xxxxxxx.default-release.

I have replaced the default folder on the new machine with the default file from the old computer but that did NOT bring any of my old mail or address books over to the new machine. What the heck am I doing wrong, I have been working on this for about ten hours over three days without success! HELP PLEASE, I know there must be a way to do it.

I use Thunderbird with multiple profiles for several different email addresses. I want to move the data from the default location (C:/users/xxx/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/...) to another drive. I was able to do this by copying the Thunderbird folder to the new location, and redirecting the program to look in the new location. This worked for a single email address, but hasn't brought up the other addresses. How do I recover those? Do I need to manually recreate the profiles inside Thunderbird?

Hello at Mozilla,

I tried the archives first and have the exact set up but the same error like others have had keeps coming up, server error, password failed, try again later, etc, yet all settings are correct. I closed my online email program, restarted TB, same error.

I also used SM for a long time, like over a decade I think. Every few years when I change out my laptop, I go through this and it takes days to re set up my email to a client.

I really like having my emails in my computer to go through on/offline. It doesn't appear SM will be supported anymore so on to TB, which looks very similar.

Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!! ~Kirch

Mijn emailadres is ad.henen@zonnet.nl. Mijn internetprovider is Ziggo. Mijn inkomende mail gaat via POP3.zonnet.nl en mijn uitgaande mail onder live ging via smtp.ziggo.nl. De smtp.ziggo.nl werkt niet onder Thunderbird. Wat is wijsheid?

Hello. I have recently been experiencing lots of problems with Thunderbird E-mails. Often I am unable to send any mails at all. Although the in-box seems to work OK. Checked with my ISP yesterday ( Talk Talk ) and was advised they no longer support Tiscali E-mails ! However, that later turned out to be incorrect. Apparently they still support Tiscali - but only for existing telephone and broadband customers like me. However, I am advised to change my account settings from POP 3 to IMAP. ( not quite sure why ! )

If I am to change the settings to IMAP could someone please let me have some simpole and easy-to-follow steps for an " oldie " like me so I don't make any mistakes. Also, please could you confirm that if I make the switch I will still be able to keep my existing tiscali.co.uk E-mail domain name ? I want to retain that E-mail address in any event. Is that possible ?

Finally, I would want to copy a couple of hundred incoming and out-going E-mails to the IMAP account, or, if not possible, then I would need to make a back-up copy of two or three hundred incoming and out-going E-mails which are already on Thunderbird but I don't know how to go about this. Could someone please send me some easy-to-follow instructions,

I have to say that all of this seems very complicated just to change from POP 3 to IMAP in order to keep Talk Talk happy ! I don't use multiple accounts and would prefer to stick with POP 3. Help and advice please on what to do.

Many thanks. SG.

I have added various gmail accounts to Thunderbird with no trouble at all. But when I tried to add my outlook account with the IMAP protocol it said:

"Configuration could not be verified. If your username and password are correct, it is likely the the server administrator has disabled the selected configuration for your account. Try selecting another protocol."

It does work if I add it as an exchange account and all my emails appear correctly, but everytime I open up the thunderbird app, a message appears saying:

"Login to server outlook.office365.com with username [anonymous]@outlook.com failed". So i just close the message and the app seems to work normally...

Furthermore, if the exchange account is the only one that does not offer any email encryption options...

I will be very grateful to anyone who knows how to fix any of these problems :)

Hi, I downloaded and installed the latest version of T Bird. I started downloading and backing up my emails. Well, I forgot that it saves them on the C drive I think. Anyway, I wanted to store them somewhere else 'cause I have a lot of emails. So, I looked online how to change that, deleted the accounts and the profiles.

Couldn't open thunderbird again cause it said it couldn't find the profiles so I uninstalled it and installed it and it did the same thing.

Even downloaded it again and installed it but still the same thing. " When you start from scratch, will it not create the profile/s?

Thanks

I have two accounts on my Thunderbird mail client. On one of them I changed my email hosting from GoDaddy to Gmail. I hate Gmail's mail client interface so I want to keep everything on Thunderbird. I entered the new Gmail server info but the account cannot access the Gmail server. It's probably a password issue, but it never asked me for the new Gmail server password. The Gmail servers do not show up on the list of servers on the Passwords page, so I can't change or add any passwords. I don't want to set up another new account because I need to keep all my previous mails, settings, etc. in place.

So how do I just change the servers (in and out) on an existing Thunderbird mail account? TIA.

Thunderbird

On my old PC I have version 78.10.2 (64 bits) and I try to install it on a new pc and migrate the content using the method you recommend (help - troubleshooting information - profile folder - mounted 3 times - copy etc. in reverse order via usb key....) The result is minimal: only the latest e-mails appear (ten days for one address). Neither the series of classified mails, nor the addresses of the correspondents, .... What should I do? Thank you for the answer.

I use TB 68.12.1 under Win 10 on a PC. I use a primary computer (P), and an identical computer for backup (B). I have been backing up about once a month for about three years. Today my backup to (B) resulted in TB not starting and got the message, "The TB profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

What I did was Copy/Paste TB from (P) to a flash drive, Delete TB from the Roaming Folder on (B), then Copy/Paste from the Flash Drive into the Roaming Folder on (B). Can anyone solve this problem?
I use version 68.12.1 because I've had considerable problems with an update before. It seems TB is being incessantly tweeked. Todd-Hall told me, "... there is whole new look and feel to version 78." If I have to learn a new interface I might as well spend the time and effort learning a different but hopefully more stable Email program. For example, Open Office is also open source software and is very stable.

I want to move my Thunderbird "profiles" folder from my space-limited C: drive to my E: drive. I have looked at the numerous sections on the support forum but cannot get any of the suggestions to work, including using the "Profile manager". Here is what I did instead, and it did not work either.

1. First, here is the content of my profiles.ini file that DOES work: [Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=Profiles/ytdrvj63.default-release Locked=1

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/2lgkqmkz.default Default=1

[Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/ytdrvj63.default-release

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2

I only use the ytdrvj63.default-release; the other file is from an old installation that I don't use.

2. I copied (NOT MOVED, because I want to be sure it will work) to my E: drive my entire "Profiles" folder from the default C: drive, i.e., C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles. Incidentally, within Thunderbird I have LOTS of folders that contain messages, not just in the inbox and sent folders.

3. I then edited the profiles.ini folder shown above in step 1 to look like this:

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=E:\Thunderbird\Profiles\ytdrvj63.default-release Locked=1

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/2lgkqmkz.default Default=1

[Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=0 Path=E:\Thunderbird\Profiles\ytdrvj63.default-release

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2

4. This version of profiles.ini did not work, nor did various other versions, such as ones with StartWithLastProfile=0 instead of 1 and/or IsRelative=0 instead of 1. In all cases, Thunderbird started but asked to "set up your existing e-mail address". That is not what I hoped to see. Instead, I wanted Thunderbird to start from this new location of the Profile and show the same list of folders and messages as before.

What would you suggest? Thanks in advance.
