I have a dozen gmail accounts working fine with TB 78.11.0 (64-bit) Win10. I am unable to add one account. Gmail security says specifically that TB has access to this account. Less secure App setting is enabled. 2 factor authorization is disabled. TB is using standard OAuth2 verification. Cookies are enabled. I have had this problem with different gmail accounts in the past. If I delete TB and reinstall, this account will probably be accepted, but then there is a chance that one or two other accounts will have this hangup when I try to add them to the reinstalled TB. I have checked that there is no stored password for this account in TB. I have deleted the history. I have restarted TB and the entire computer many times. Only the crapshoot of deleting TB and reinstalling seems to help. Any ideas?..........then, just as I was about to launch this inquiry, I tried entering the same email address WITHOUT CAPS. It worked. Many of my other TB accounts are entered WITH CAPS, WITHOUT PROBLEMS. Why is this an issue for TB? I thought email addresses were not case sensitive.....  ??

I have an installation of Thunderbird on an HP desktop and a Surface Pro. Both installations have automatic updates enabled, and if I click on "check for updates", I get a return message that the latest version is installed. The problem is that Thunderbird is currently released stable version 91.x; and both machines in question are running 78.x. I don't know why they have not updated to current version. I am a little nervous about forcing a new install. I can copy the installed profile folder from the roaming folder, and paste it back in once the new installation is complete, but I am worried if the jump from 78 to 91 will be incompatible to the files after upgrading. Any thoughts as to why Thunderbird has "frozen in time"; and any considerations while attempting the upgrade?

After switching to Lubuntu, then installing Thunderbird and pasting my old profile, Tbird starts and all account settings are correct, even the old email arrive correctly. However, the folders for sorting all the email are missing. When the folders for sorting are recreated and all the email sorted, if Thunderbird is closed, none of the folders return on restart, though all of the emails do return, even new email that gets deleted. So the emails keep growing in number every time Tbird starts.

Everything related to profiles from the new install has been deleted, and the old profile pasted in the root and local directories. Clearly something is being missed, and no one else seems to be having this problem specifically.

So, everything works except folders and deleting email on restart.

The version of Tbird which created the pasted profile is unknown.

I've got old emails cached locally for 2 IMAP accounts. Merely as a backup. Both of these accounts are long gone for years, but I always kept the emails as backup/archive copy.

However, when I try to move/migrate my profile to another computer (as I've successfully done many times over many years without problems), now these IMAP folders/emails vanish. Whenever I try to copy or repair these folders, Thunderbird prompts for a login and won't let me continue without. Login is impossible though since the accounts are long gone. :/

Is there a way to kind of "materialize" the IMAP cache which I can see and browse before I migrate the profile?

Big thanks in advance! PS: Next time I'll archive them while the accounts are still active. I promise! ;)

hi.

when I'm working online on thunderbird, my computer is really really slow. I don't knowi f this has something to do with the loading of the messages from the server (I do get a lot of messages), if it's to do with compacting folders or what ever, but it's becoming quite difficult to work online when the whole computer basically freezes

I am fine when I work offline and my computer goes at regular speed

is their anything I can do to perhaps fix this, or make it so that messages only load when I want them too

thanks

I've succeeded (with a lot of outside help - thank you Which?) in transferring my TB profile following the replacement of my HDD with an SSD. Now I'm stuck again, trying to transfer my address book from my saved back-up into the newly-installed copy of TB .

I have followed the clear instructions on this site regarding the need to export the address books as an LDIF file. But when I have selected this format in the box at the bottom of the AB page, and pressed 'Save', I cannot then find the saved file to transfer it to a thumb drive to install it into the fresh copy of TB. Where is it, for goodness sake? What am I missing (apart from a digital brain, of course)?

I have looked at the FAQ for this subject and I suspect I am out of luck. I believe Tbird automatically backs up data and stores it in a "profile" file. As I was trying to save documents etc. on my old PC with a view to selling it I encountered a serious problem which caused me to take it in for repair. The shop reported a damaged drive and have saved whatever data they could before returning the old hard drive. I now have a new PC, have installed TBird from the internet but as I was not able to save the original profile, I have lost all of the folders with saved emails. Is there any way to recover that information? Presumably it's still saved somewhere under my profile? I would be grateful for any advice about that.

Everything was working until I updated to 91.1.1. Verizon, Gmail, and Yahoo all worked and but can not send email with any of them but can receive email with them

When I used the email configuration tool with 91.1.1, I could not complete because i got message 'INCOMING SERVER ALREADY EXISTS" Also got message "OUTGOING SERVER ALREADY EXISTS." I deleted settings for both and eventually deleted the whole pop and SMTP entries to no avail.

I eventually deleted my entire Verizon account losing emails and address books. I made the outgoing servers the defaults for the email accounts e,g, Verizon, gmail, yahoo in various configurations to but to avail. I initially had this problem with THUNDERBIRD 78 though that eventually cured itself.

Note emails set up as POP accounts. I have up to date Windows 10

Thunderbird 78 to 91 Update Question

Greetings,

Thunderbird recently updated from 78 to 91 but, when as I was reading the release notes, it states:

"Thunderbird 91 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 78 or earlier. A future release will provide updates from earlier versions.".

Not to sound paranoid but I didn't do a direct download from the site and just manually checked if there was an update via; Help > About > manual update option and it updated to the latest version as of this writing. I found out only after updating then reading the release notes.

My question is, has that "future release" been released so that Thunderbird auto updates from 78 to 91 and the release notes just hasn't been updated?

Hello. I'm a Windows 10 user and I have upgraded from Thunderbird 78 to 91 and now the "notification icon" in taskbar (or app badge) does not appear for new mail that are first filtered and put in folders. It only appears when new mail arrives in Inbox. I have not had that issue with the 78 version. Is there a fix for this or should I uninstall 91 and clean reinstall the 78?

The upgrade was made by installing 91 version "over" the 78 version (not a clean install, I may say). Could that be the problem? (I don't need assumptions, I need solutions)

Thanks.

Hello everyone!

I had a BSOD last week and had to do a fresh Windows 10 install. I had all of my AppData available from a backup. I'm not sure which version of Thunderbird I was currently running then. When I downloaded Thunderbird I got the 91.1.2 (64-bit). All of my accounts and emails went through just fine. However, I can't send an email from any account. The send button is gray and will not function. I clicked on the address book and it's blank. However, when I click on the "Contacts Sidebar", all of the contacts and various address books are there. The files are also in the AppData (both *.mab & *.sqlite) in the "new" Windows 10 install. ANy help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much and have a great day! :)
