I bought a new computer so I am trying to back everything on the old computer up to a new external hard drive prior to setting up the new one. I have managed to find my profile for Thunderbird with no problems. However, when I try to paste it to 1) another drive on my current hard drive, 2) the new external hard drive, or 3) a USB drive I get the same error.

It gets to 59%, stalls, and then says "Interrupted Action. Can't read from the source file or disk". Specifies Inbox

I tried Googling a solution, but nothing I'm trying is working. From that search, I have found out the following information if any of this helps with solving the problem. Computer hard drive is file system is NTSF while the external hard drive is Exfat. The size of the profile is 3.7 gb. It was over 4.3, but I cleaned some things out.

Thunderbird is not open while I am trying to do this and have rebooted the system after making clean up actions to email before trying to do the copy/paste so nothing should be open and interfering.

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide that would be of assistance.

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hi,

moving to a new computer I was following the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I installed version of Thunderbird 78.5.0 (64-bit) and copied my Thunderbird folder to %APPDATA%

Now on the first startup of Thundebird, everything looks fine (see on-first-startup.png), all my data and open tabs are as I left them, everything seems to be working.

Now I close Thunderbird (without having done anything) via X icon and start it again. It looks like on-second-startup.png, the tabs are gone. there is no content in the panes. The menus look strange, being partly empty (menus.png). Only the Help menu is completely there, however, the items do not seem to work properly (restart with addons disabled, e.g. does nothing). The about dialog opens but looks also strange (about.png).

I have googled and tried deleting global-messages-db.sqlite in my profile but this does not change anything. The file is created anew on Thunderbird startup, but the contents remain as above.

This is 100% reproducible. If I close Thunderbird, copy the Thunderbird folder into %APPDATA% and startup, everything looks fine. On second startup the same problem as described above shows up again.

Any help would be appreciated!

I bought a new PC and installed TB (Thunderbird) on it. I would like to transfer/import emails from the Inbox and Sent folders on my old PC to the new PC. How do I do this?

I read somewhere that TB can import messages from another PC. But I cannot find "export" function for messages in the Inbox or Sent folders of the old PC's TB.

Both my PCs, old and new, have same version of TB which is 78.5.0 (32 bit). Both PCs have Windows 10.

Thanks in advance

Been using TB for decades, never had an upgrade break things so severely (luckily!).

After updating, I could no longer access anything except Inbox an Draft folders. When I looked at Subscribe, it just showed an empty list. Attempting to send an email triggered a "file or network access error" . I read many threads about deleting PKCS11.TXT, that didn't help. I noticed that for the 2 email accounts I had, one was missing it's IMAP entry in Password Manager. Tried many ways to add that entry, none worked.

By accident, I stumbled across this thread (2nd last post by RaymondP): https://support.mozilla.org/ja/questions/1275759#question-reply

It was a long shot, but I followed his solution, downloaded 60.9.1, voila, a password prompt appeared, I entered my password, saw that Password Manager was updated with the missing entry. I then checked for an update, and installed 68.12.1. Now all folders synchronized my messages, Subscribe tab shows all subscribed folders, and I can send emails without any errors.

I took a chance and upgraded back to 78.4.2; everything broke again the way it used to be. Downgraded to 60.9.1, then upgraded to 68.12.1 again. All fixed, except my address books went missing. Restored them from a .BAK file and all is working perfectly.

Posting here in hopes that I can help somebody save a day (or more) of frustration.

Hello!

I tried to install Thunderbird setup 78.5.1. Setup asks to reboot the computer to complete a previous uninstall of Thunderbird , but after reboot and starting setup again, the same reboot message comes. This happens many times, reboot does not help.

I had earlier some older version of Thunderbird, but it is removed with Windows Control panel.

How can I uninstall previous version complete?`

Sorry to insist, but I'm totally stuck. The lastes TB upgrade has deleted all the messages that I had received, but the file still exists when I open TB, contrary to the sent, draft and trash files which have also disappeared. On the C: drive, the INBOX, SENT, DRAFT and TRASH files have been deleted (or hidden ? or displaced ?) and all I see are .msf files. 3 years' work down the drain. I can no longer receive or send any new messages. This concerns only the mailbox which is on IMAP. I have another mailbox with another address which is on a traditional POP server, and it still works. I tried to understand something to the report, but it is too complex for me to understand what went wrong. I couldn't find any information or solution in the GetHelp section. If I download again TB I fear I might definitely lose everything. Are the deleted files hidden somewhere and retrievable or totally and definitely lost? Or should I use another software more compatible with IMAP? Thanx...

Hi there ! I setup two account, gmail and hotmail on a new 78.5.1 thunderbird profile.

I receive ALL the emails from the two webmails, but I fail in responding or sending new emails. The send button is greied and the sender's email appears in red. I tried all the suggestions from the post : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages

except deleting the SMTP password as it is a brand new profile.

Any other Ideas, please ?

Attached, the two SMTP setup And a screen shot of the sending window

My config : windows 10, NOD32 (i tried without the AV running). note : I downgraded from beta 84.02b to 78.5.1, but created a brand new profile and synchronised all the existing messages

Thank You !
