Hi: I've used all previous Windows versions together with 4-6 years of using steadily (and ONLY) THUNDERBIRD Online Email Account but I've NEVER experienced this unexpected issue which has happened just a few days ago: during my daily usage of THUNDERBIRD-Email Account, I've noted one day that the INCOMING messages started to get collected in the 'TRASH' folder instead of in the originally-set 'Inbox' ...and unfortunately - have no clue what has caused this problem. I've thoroughly checked the SERVER settings but did NOT find any wrong data: according to the Email-Account setting it states to store ALL incoming mail in the 'INBOX' folder (as is usually and commonly done) ...
I've checked the Properties of the INBOX & TRASH folders and it is stated there that '....the Folder Index (.msf) file becomes damaged and by using the 'Repair Folder' Option may fix these issues' ...however, I'm afraid to use it NOT knowing if it could complicate rather than fix this problem, however - has anyone a 'good experience' with using this 'Repair Folder' Option in the INBOX & TRASH folders ...?
I've posted this message in the THUNDERBIRD Forum about 3 weeks ago but nobody could offer any effective help and advice how to resolve this rather not very complex issue so - I was wondering if there is ANYONE from the MOZILLA Programmer's development group who should be definitely knowledgeable how to eliminate this Software issue (bug) ...?!? Any help from anyone who is familiar with this issue and could help me to resolve it would be greatly appreciated - THANKS! ...Tony H.

I am getting rid of this laptop, purging everything and selling it. There are certain Thunderbird email files I want to keep off on a DVD, but I can't find them except by opening Thunderbird. I know they are stored somewhere in this laptop, and I'd like to simply take them off as an open file. So my question is, what is the file extension I need to look for -- e.g., *.eml or what? Thanks in advance.

Outgoing SMPT doesn't need a change. Thank you.

I have two verizon.net email accounts. I used Thunderbird to download them to my laptop.
One email stopped working a while ago, now my other one also stopped working yesterday.
I do not have a cell phone so I can not do that 2 version account verification (or whatever it is called on aol).
I am happy to give you details if you will HELP. Laptop, Windows 10, Google Chrome, Thunderbird 91.5.1 (64-bit)
AOL has NO way online to get help unless you pay and upgrade. VERY bad customer service. They should allow emailing when people have problems.
I am thinking of dumping both AOL/Verizon and Thunderbird. TIA Elsie

Deleted messages used to stay in my Deleted or Deleted Messages folders until I manually deleted them. (I kept them for several months in case of late disputes with correspondents). However, they are now vanishing after a few days. Retention policy on each is 'Use my AC settings' and 'don't delete messages.' Any advice please?

Following a change of password with my service provider, I can receive emails but cannot reply or send new emails. Tis is the error message: " Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.btinternet.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'."
Efforts to check or edit my Outgoing server (SMTP) password have proved a waste of time. Despite following all available instructions, screenshots, and online comments, I am unable to change or check my SMTP password. I am able to select 'Password' authenication, but not able view or edit the password. I have deleted that particular account and set up a new one with the same email address, but authentication problem remains. I have spent too much time trying to resolve this issue, so now I have no choice but to use annoying 'Windows Mail'. If I cannot resolve this issue, I will have no choice but to bid a sad farewell to the otherwise reliable Thunderbird which I have used for years.

In the last two days all of my messages have been immediately marked as read (i.e., unread messages do not show up in bold). In options I have chosen 'Automatically mark messages as read after displaying for 10 seconds', and in the past this has meant the incoming message showed as bold until I opened and read it, and that the main display indicated how many unread messages I had. I am using Firefox 78.13.0 in Windows 10, but this did not happen after an update: it simply happened overnight. Just now I sent a message from my Gmail account to my Firefox address and have not opened it in Firefox: on my iPad it shows as unread, but on my PC it shows as read, even though I haven't touched it. This problem applies to all three mailboxes in the Firefox account: when I look at the main Firefox display, there is no bold to indicate that any of the mailboxes have new messages.
This is very annoying in terms of business--I can't immediately see whose messages I have not yet read, and whether any new messages have arrived in a particular mailbox since I last opened Firefox (it is too distracting to keep it open all the time). Many thanks for any help.
