Hi,

I booted up Thunderbird today with the new update and the font size of the incoming messages is exceptionally small (for me). I have played around with settings and font sizes but I can't seem to increase the size of the incoming email preview font size. See image attached for what I am referring to.

How do I increase the size of this font please?

Thanks in advance

Thunderbird How to restore the old "Get new messages" and "Write" buttons instead of the new cloud symbol and New message buttons which really aren't explanatory or helpful

My newly updated Thunderbird has had the "Get new messages" and "Write" buttons replaced with a cloud symbol and a "New message" button. These are not as intuitive as the old ones and in the case of "New message" seemed more likely to be the new "Get new messages" button - but it isn't. Is there a way to restore the old buttons which were clear in their meaning, or at least to customise the new buttons with their old function text? I've tried playing around with the customising button options but apart from being able to add a Get messages button to the very top bar (where I would never think to look for functions other than to minimise or close the window) I cant see how to replace the new and confusing buttons or add some helpful text to the cloud symbol button. Thanks

Thunderbird on my Windows 11 PC was updated to 115.3.1 (64-bit). I like my default view to sort by date and grouped by sort. Since the update, all threads default to expanded. I can collapse the "\"; however, when I switch between email accounts, the view is expanded when I come back. Is there any way to set the view back to collapsed? Or should I restore a previous version of Thunderbird?

Thank you!

OK so once again Mozilla strikes with changing the programs to user unfriendly. Got an update last night that changed the over all look of thunderbird that I do not like at all.

I like my menu bar at the top of the screen where all menu bars have always gone but in this update they moved the menu bar below the thunderbird buttons bar the one that has the search bar and all the various buttons which I added back in customize but I see no way to put the menu bar back up top.

So is there a way or skin or hack that will let me move the menu bar back to the very top of the screen rather then second row???

By menu bar I mean the one that has

File / Edit/ View / Go / Messages / Tools / Help

UPDATE: Issue resolved I found a short article that had the needed CSS code for the needed userchrome.css file so if anyone is looking to also move the menu bar up this worked for me!

The new updates are horrible

I've been using TBird for a very long time and am thinking of leaving.

Fonts are now tiny. Can't read my mail without a struggle.

Even changing font size to be bigger in settings isn't helping, even after a restart. Fonts in mail are all too small to see. I don't have any system override set either.

Are you trying to drive older / disabled people away? Feels like it.

Please give one-button option for old look.

At this point I want to revert to last version but can't find download for old version.

Can you help me fix this please, or please show me link to get last version, and turn off updating.

For future: allow in updates to keep old look even with security upgrades. (I'd love even the old icon, but I'm sure that's asking a lot.)

IF THE LOOK ISN'T BROKEN, DON'T FIX IT. Making someone modern while tossing old users under the bus doesn't seem like your style, until today.

p.s. I'm sure other people have this problem but it's not clear how to find this forum. I first just replied to one of your tweets, but I doubt that will be read.

Mail Toolbar missing in Thunderbird 115.3.1 as reference please view the included screen shot of 45.8.0 with microbird add-on which gave a compact design and listing paper layout of emails (these of course not shown). So just updated to the latest version due to vulnerability and compatibility issues and added the Google Calendar Plugin “Button” interestingly a top tool bar appeared above the menu tool bar to the left of the search box showing most of the buttons of 45.8.0 with microbird but with wasted height space and with the Google Calendar Plugin “Button” to the right of the search box instead of where it should be with the other quick access buttons. A right click showed multiple drag and drop customisable options which I was going to investigate later, however after taking a break and then firing up Thunderbird a couple of hours later this toolbar had vanished together with the google calendar button. Have added the Thunderbird official google calendar integration which can only be accessed via “Events and tasks” drop-down which is primitive and do not like so need to remove but unsure how. So as someone who is dyslexic with eyesight issues and born in the 40’s we do not adapt to change easily (maybe some do?) any help would be appreciated with the sorting out of the above issues. I would add that found some info on a unified toolbar and spaces which sounded good which I failed to understand or comprehend as right click is always greyed out, maybe an age thing.

Now for the Unified Toolbar issue of 115 This is following my previous help request "Mail Toolbar missing in Thunderbird 115.3.1" So the unified toolbar appears to do what I want and it appeared after installing the google calendar plugin Button which worked OK although to the right of the search bar, later in the day after restarting Thunderbird the unified toolbar and google calendar button disappeared completely only visible is the search bar right click only shows menu bar with customise greyed out have looked at a number of replies regarding the issue non of which work - google calendar plugin button is installed but not visible anywhere.

Any help and guidance appreciated. Paul.

I'd like to suppress displaying message Subject in the folder contents pane. (I'm in vertical view and would like the message contents pane to be wider. To accomplish that I'm willing to sacrifice listing the Subject in the folder contents pane. Tbird doesn't list that as a column I can select or deselect. Any ideas?

The real goal is to make the folder contents pane narrower. But it seems to not allow me to make it any narower than it is. A9(I can widen it, but that doesn't help. Is there any any to change the minimum width Thunderbird has set for that pane?

Thunderbird just upgraded to "Supernova". I hate it. I'm trying to adjust as many things as I can to make it look normal, but I'm stuck on the font. How can I change the display font used so that my folders and email information (NOT the font used in email messages themselves) is different from the default?

Also, is there any way to change the density or size of just one pane? My email list is too cramped, but if I try to change the size or the density, it changes the the all the panes, and so then my folder list looks way to spread out.

All of the help documentation I've found for importing MBOX emails downloaded from an old Gmail account doesn't match what I'm seeing in my version of Thunderbird (115.3.2). Whether I access "Import" from the Tools or the Local Folders tab, I don't get an option to import mbox (see screenshots).

What am I doing wrong? Am I looking in the wrong place? Did I download my folders/files incorrectly from Gmail in June?

Hi,

After the new version of Thunderbird came out, I liked some of the new features I have been familiar with, but then decided I wanted to be able to change the general (not reading pane) of the rest of Thunderbird (folder pane background and font color and size, as well as the main preview pane (same like I want to do to the folders pane.

I know I used to do this a long time ago, but my pc has been redone so many times that I just haven't thought about it. Now I wish to do it again. I know there used to be an addon that allowed you to do this, but now I cannot find one that works with the current version to TB.

So, the obvious question is, Is there an addon that allows you to do this?

I read some things that talk about creating a folder, and putting some sort of code in it, but that does not seem like it would simply allow me to do what I wish to do with just the mouse.

Can anyone please explain to me how I can change the background of these panes from black background and white lettering? I'm a bit behind technically with TB, as anything custom I've ever done just used addons.

I welcome all advice I can get.

Thanks!

As the title asks, I'd like to know how to change the default sort order so when I add an email all its folders, and existing emails folders default to my preferred sort order/setup. This should really be a setting.

I've looked at other similar questions and one points to this link, however I'm unsure if I've done it correctly.

I'd like to change it to group, date, new on top.

Mine now looks like:

mailnews.default_news_sort_order 2 mailnews.default_news_sort_type 18 mailnews.default_news_view_flags 64 mailnews.default_sort_order 2 mailnews.default_sort_type 18 mailnews.default_view_flags 64

Is this correct?

Also is there a way I can go in the profile and change the sort order for the current folders, I'm guessing mass changing the config would be quicker/easier.

Dear support,

I installed recently Thunderbird 115.5.0 (64-bit) on my laptop running Debian 12.

I have a problem with the font size settings in the message view.

By default, the font size is very small. I can increase it by tuning in the top Menu. Tuning the Font size to 26 pt I get a readible text, see Picture 1. When I move to the next message, the font size becomes small again. Picture 2 shows when I moved and came back to the same message. The menu is shown, and the Font Size appears to be 26 pt in both screen shots.

I have set layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to -1

I have a userChrome.css, but it does not fix the font size in the message view. I wish I could know how to do that!

Thank you in advance for your help! Eric CM

With Thunderbird 115.4.2., the program no longer permits a compact density for the folder tree if you also need or prefer a more spacious ("default") setting for the emessage list and contents.

These spacing preferences should be separated...because the folder tree view does not change from minute to minute, so it does not need to be seen and studied as often. BUT the message list is constantly changing so users always need to at it more closely and frequently as messages are constantly arriving.

So more space more is more important for the message list than it is for the folder tree view. And if you have many folders, as I do, you may want a more compact view of the folder tree to reduce need for constant scrolling....even though you may want--or need--an easy to skim and see view of the message list, as I do.

After the redesign in the current version 115.4.25, it has now become either all too small, or all too spacious, but no longer possible to have a compact tree view for the folders and a more spacious or default view fpr the message list and contents.

Can you please separate the density setting for the folder tree from the setting for the message list, or otherwise permit a setting that looks like "compact" for the folder tree list displayed at left, but also permits a more spacious, or "default" spacing for the message list when displayed horizontally above the message content?
