Cox.com has decided to no longer have their own email server and switched their accounts to yahoo. I can read my email directly on Yahoo, but can't get their imap to work. I changed the imap and smtp settings to yahoo. Also, the email login has changed and I changed that in Thunderbird. With Cox, the login was just "username" and now it is "username@cox.net". When I made these changes in the account settings, my email account has disappeared from the inbox, but it is still in account settings. I am using a unified inbox with several accounts.

Cox will not help me with this, and I have been on hold with yahoo for an hour with no response. I have been messing with this for two days so I hope you can help me.

I believe this to be a new situation; I've just noticed it for the first time in the couple of years since I switched email clients.

I'm running three POP/SMTP email accounts under Thunderbird. Aside from my Gmail 'primary' account, there's an msn account and a business one too. I use the 'unified view' mode for inbox, sent, trash, etc. and seldom defer to individual account windows unless searching for something.

I can't figure out why my primary (Gmail) account is showing up again, in boldface blue no less, just below Trash and above Local Folders. I feel I must have flipped a switch somewhere, but can't locate it to turn it off. Any ideas?

I have Thunderbird set up on PC and a Laptop. On the PC I have version 115.9 installed and the Laptop (which is a more recent purchase) version 115.10.

On the PC I can easily sort by "date", "correspondent", etc as there are click buttons at the top of each column but these do not appear in version 115.10.

I have looked at all the view menu options and cannot see that anything will help to change this. Was this functionality removed in the upgrade or is there a way to alter the view settings? The screen shot is from the Laptop.

TIA

Hi, Excuse my poor English (I am French). Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon (64), Thunderbird 115.9.0 (64) no added module - Installation from the Mint list of software. My problem : regardless of the provider (Proton, Gmail, Outlook, GMX - in IMAP), the message menu bar (see <https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/personnaliser-la-liste-des -messages#thunderbird:linux:tb115>) does not appear. How to make it reappear ? I think I have tried all the configuration menus and possible right clicks within Thunderbird ; I haven't found anything on the Net ; starting in safe mode did not change anything. I come from Windows 10 where I didn't have this problem. Thanks in advance for your help

There are two "bad email" files in Thunderbird: JUNK and SPAM. I'm still not clear on the difference.

For JUNK mail, TB gives us the option to select "NOT JUNK". Good.

But for SPAM, I cannot find the option "NOT SPAM"

1) Why are there separate SPAM and JUNK directories? And why are they managed differently? This seems terribly non-intuitive and inconsistent and just strange.

2) How can I train SPAM filter to not flag good email from trusted senders? For instance, I get email from my wife many times a day for many years. Today, TB put her email into SPAM. Isn't there a simple command to "white list" a sender's email address?

I've just completed a new install of Thunderbird on a computer (Windows 10 -release 115.8.0 32 bit) and find that the message list does not have the usual columns for From, Date, Subject etc and no column headings. Instead each message in the list has the above message characteristics spaced out over two rows. This format applies to all three Layout Views (Classic, Vertical, and Wide). I prefer the usual column format which allows for more messages to show since only one row is used per message.

How do I get the usual columnar format to show in the message list window? I'be been all over the View and Setup screens and just can't find any function for this.

Thanks, JS

I was a happy camper until V115 stuck its ugly nose into my interface.

Fonts on the interface are absolutely terrible and almost unreadable and cause rather severe eye strain.

I have tried going to Settings->Language & Appearance->Fonts & Colors->Advance and they will not change.

What am I missing.

I noticed that New Times Roman wasn't available as a font. What gives?

Threading is something I, and indeed large numbers of Thunderbird users, do NOT want, ever.

Please provide an option to disable threading, across all folders, all acounts.

Even worse, the option to Ignore Thread, is simply a way to lose emails. To have a shortcut to hide a message, without even knowing, is crazy. Given how poor Windows control of focus is, and how easy it is to start typing but actually still be in the email listings, its inevitable that you will hit e.g. K or A or whatever, and cause bizarre effects or lose emails.

So I want to disable threading to avoid losing emails. I would also like to disable Archiving, and other functions, that are all simply ways to lose emails by accident.

Thanks.

I was exploring this new 115 of Thunderbird and ended up wiping the message viewer off the screen.

To start with, I have my TBird 115 as it came "out of the box." Three columns, Inbox folder tree on the left, Cards List in the center, and message pane in the right side.

I messed everything up when I widened the Cards list to the right edge of the window, where the <---> arrowhead disappeared and all there is to the right side is the window resize arrow from my Linux system and that awful slim Jim scroll bar.

I recovered my message pane using F8 key; it is below my short list of email in the Cards View. See the attached screenshot.

I would like to return things back to as they were with the three columns as described above. I forgot, too, where I turned on Classic View. There is a checked box in Settings somewhere. Or is it a menu? I need some help, please.

May I suggest a limit somewhere short of the right-side edge of the window and short of the scroll bar to only widen the message pane "so far," such that one can recover from pushing it that far, using the same means to return it with the double arrow.

I use Thunderbird for my work emails and the other day I opened the program and everything looked and functioned differently.

If I responded to an e-mail I used to get a copy of mine inline with the thread, and now that just isn't there.

In addition, the threads aren't together the way they used to be. I try to scroll through an email thread and now I have to click on the emails individually.

Is this an update, or did a setting get accidentally changed? Can I get it back to how it was? I'm not tech savy so if you want me to share settings please explain how to find them like you're talking to a child... I just want my email to be easy to use like it was before

I am looking to see if it is possible to utilize Thunderbird for a very specific use case on macOS.

We would like to use Thunderbird as an email reader only essentially - we do not want new email addresses to be added nor do we want the existing account to be edited.

Is there a way to disable making changes to the client, or at least disable making changes to the accounts added/disable adding new accounts to the client? Locking these options behind an admin prompt would also work.

Bonus points if this is all manageable via a .plist or .js file.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry if this should be obvious to me: Can I have a unified folder containing only individually-chosen folders from several accounts?

In K9 on Android I can select one by one which folders from several accounts go into Unified view. Can I do that in Thnderbird itself? It looks like either I can do unified view, which unifies eg Inbox and Send but doesn't let me pick which others specific folders are included, or I can Favourites view which lets me pick folders but doesn't unify them. Can I do both?

Many thanks.

With the recent change of putting new messages in a nested 'thread', new messages are still bold; But because it is now nested, one doesn't know if there is a new message at a glance like before.

I've seen in a comment posted here about the same situation but it involves creating css files and such.

Could thunderbird not make some adjustment and just highlight the top visible message as bold if there is a new message within it's thread?
